Senthil along with two people to help runs this cafe. A little walk away from the tourist area this cafe is in old Town where locals stay. Senthil has been running this place for almost 15yrs and as the cafe is in the old Town is cliental is all depandant on goodwill and word to mouth publicity.
The guy was very kind and prepared some delicious food. We ate the vegetable Gratini, mushroom tart, ragi crepe with olive tomato and cheese also the salad along with food topped with basil sauce and some coolers everything was to die for. Highly recommended this place for visitors in Pondicherry and don't go by the look of the area and building.. once you pop the food, you can't stop.
Loved the ambience. Beautiful place with soothing music and delicious food. Staff is also good. Great experience
A hidden gem, must go for a lazy french morning breakfast
I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place while looking for a place to eat while in Pondicherry. It's a small rooftop establishment with a somewhat tropical Latin vibe. Service was a little slow (there are only three staff) but everything was fresh, homemade and delicious. The basil lemonade is something I'd totally recommend, and also their tart and quiche 'du jour'. Our broccoli quiche and Provencal (roasted veggie) tart were both generous in portion and taste. And the accompanying salad was also great. I think I should also mention that our company for said meal (shout-out to Lucas from Germany) was the cherry on the top for this experience.
I would recommend everyone to try this place out if they want a slow, relaxing lunch with great jazz music and delicious hearty French food.
I have been thinking of going to this place for a really long time and it happened finally for one brunch
We ordered cold coffee, masala omelette and gelatho(ragi crepe) everything was too good esp that ragi crepe..Ambience is lovely and peaceful place to hang out and cold coffee will soothen love for coffee in u.. Will surely coming here very often 😍😍😋
We found very difficult to find the place. We were searching in and around but at last we found it and we were suprised because it's an apartment with top floor. No lift.. We have to use stairs. Not recommended for elderly people. The moment we stepped into Cafe it was filled with warm lights and decoration. They welcomed us properly. Luckily place was empty and we managed to observe the painting and decorations. And the server came with jumbo menu I mean bahubali menu. It's quite surprising to see a small cafe with highly innovative ideas.
Food was great. Server was very polite. Parking we found difficult to park our car . I'd prefer people who has bike can sneak in easily.
Cons :
There is no parking facility. We have to park in the road.
Amazing place!!! The food here is 5/5.
Perfect seasoning, which is very important for me. Great place to hang out and the people here are very courteous and friendly. Ordered the Galette, which was delicious.😻
They even have a book rack filled with storybooks, with authors like Ken Follet, Nora Roberts, P.G. Wodehouse etc. Definitely gonna visit again!
Soulful place and wholesome food. As a local of Pondicherry, it used to be the go to place. The roast chicken and the pasta pesto is the standard and the taste and quality is maintained. I always recommend my friends for a meal and will always do so. Can get a little warm during the summer as the restaurant is situated on a terrace and no air conditioning.
Sorching head outside and this cafe is a saviour. It is like a Goan shack rooftop place. The entrance makes you doubt if it's good or not. It's located on crazy street. It's nice place. We tried pastas and roasted vegetables they were all good. The tuna salad was quite a meal. Also garlic chicken was cooked well. You should try this.
Chill homely vibe. Good food. Affordable. No drama.
Mushroom Tarte- perfect mix of crisp and soft. A little on the bland side but the side of potatoes and dressed salad makes up for it.
Prawns- The chef came by and offered to cook it in the Italian way. Was great
Ginger lemon soda- so-so
New Banana Cafe is a hidden cafe in quaint, laid-back street full of houses in Cazyar Street, Puducherry. This cafe primarily offers vegetarian fare and is known for its appetizing salads and flavorful home-made jams. The shredded beet-root and carrot salad with olive oil dressing is a perfect starter.
This was really an amazing....simple and cozy.....rooftop ambiance...... french food.....good songs......great place for chilling.......I ordered garlic chicken with fries and salad......wowww!!!!! It was Soo yummy...... perfectly cooked.....must try!
We find it difficult to reach here as the resounding was looking more of a neighbor hood. The restaurant was at the terrace. Honestly we were still not sure about the place while going up and the food they offer until we stepped in. But to our surprise, the food was great. We have ordered pasta and chicken roast with potato and salad, taste was amazing. For us it was like discovery of a gem. Highly recommend this place.
Beautiful place with nice vibes and ambience. Food was delicious and quantity was right. The meal felt complete. I had a vegetable tarte and it was tasty af.
Excellent French food and service. Roof top resturant away from the main road. The owner himself is the main cook of the resturant and is very friendly and nice.
Ohh, this is one of the most beautiful places restaurants I have visited in Pomdicherry. The interiors and the decor are all indigenous. The best part is the menu card which is decorated with shells. The staffs are jovial and helped me to select my dinner. Now coming to the food, it was delicious. I ordered a tomato smoothie and garlic chicken and I can say I loved the tomato smoothie. If you are in Pondicherry do visit this place. Highly Recommended.
Small place with quiet and pleasant ambiance.
Rooftop restaurant in open and cool breeze as it is a bit away from main road and is pollution free.
Decent menu which serves only french cuisine. Ideal for breakfast and lunch.
Budget restaurant. Not so busy restaurant. Nice place to try french food.
What a lovely place to hangout. Superb ambience with many types of seating arrangements. We ordered pasta and mushroom tarte. They were just amazing and delicious to eat. Being a rooftop place adds a more drama to charming evening. A must visit place..!!
Very good French food experience for this Sunday lunch. Food was was fresh and tasty, price is also very reasonable. As a French national I got the fealing being in France for 2 hours.
This is a terrace restaurant, but can be visited anytime including noon owing to a rooftop shed. It's a good place to go for brunch. We ordered a cold coffee, which wasn't great. It had a very low consistency. Masala omelette was good, but turned out to be too much for a single person. It was served with grated beetroot, carrot, and lettuce salad. We also ordered a raging gallette which was made of ragi and had filling of olive, tomato, and cheese, which made it taste like pizza toppings.
The staff was friendly. Drinks are refreshing. It is a rooftop cafe with a calm and quiet ambience. Light breeze brushing. Perfect for a peaceful evening.
Great place, comfy and cosy and the food was awesome
had quiche and mushroom tart, gratin
it is worth go to and the food was worth the cost🙂
New Banana Cafe located at Crazy street is a pocket friendly Cafe with good food and great service. Peaceful ambience at its best. We loved the Garlic Chicken with fried potato and salad. Pasta (Arabiatta sauce) was so good. Personal favorite was the Chai. 😊
A really cool place to sit and relax and let tranquility soak in. Really nice ambience! The food can be a little better, but you'd still love being here.
Been here with my love. Loved the Egg crepes we had. It was a nice experience. Great thing was that when we reached there, no one was there and we clicked lots of beautiful pics. Place is quite inside the street but cheers to Google Maps. Overall i liked it and most importantly she loved it.
Pros:
- This is the best place for having some French Crepes.
- Both Roasted and Garlic Chicken were melting in mouth.
- Never felt good in handling the fork as the chicken were easy to chop as they were so soft.
- The taste is first class and I would highly recommend the Roasted and Garlic Chicken.
- Go in the afternoon to enjoy breezy lunch.
Cons:
- This restaurant is situated in remote location and not easily accessible.
- Since its a rooftop restaurant they could have had Lift.
- Menu have less number of foods. Actually there is no starter but you won't feel for that after having crepes.
Overall:
I had a wonderful food and that is worth it.
It's a rooftop café so it's obviously small but the lighting, music and continuous cool breeze makes up very good ambience. It's perfect if you want a peaceful place with happy vibes (thanks to the music and the breeze). This isn't a place for party, no alcohol or smoking. We tried 'tarte' 'quiche' and 'gratins' served here, they were really delicious
Amazing food polite service worth the cost. Ambience is good they play lite soothing music.
You should order specials here its really worth it but do ask for it specials are not in menu. Creps and tea are really good go for it. Nice job.
We went to this restaurant located in a roof top and my experience has been very pleasant. More often the Italian or Continental cuisine is a bit overpriced in India but this place is a good find for someone looking to satisfy their hunger pangs without pinching the pocket. The staff is helpful and will guide you based on your preferences and likes as most of us are not familiar with everything that gets listed on the menu card. The pasta arrabiatta was amazing , they recommended a few other dishes that were very nice too. The crepes were very well made and the home made chocolate cake was very nice too.😋. The ambience is good a bit like a shack no air conditioning so hot summer afternoons can be tough. They don't accept credit cards who carries cash post demonetisation 🤔. The serving portions are just right. I liked the way they present their food and the best part is the costing 😁. This must easily be the most economically priced place to get your Continental cravings. Am sure to visit here on my next trip to Pondicherry. Hope they continue to keep the quality of the food high and pricing optimal .
Well the walk up the stairs to the rooftop restaurant does make you even more hungry.gives you a feel of a goan shack.the decor is more reminiscent of 70's hippie culture rather than French, as you might expect.Menu has limited options but done nicely, basically its quiches, crepes, salads and pastas.did like their tomato-olive quiche which comes with a fresh salad and sone fries.garlic chicken was okay for my taste buds.great thing is they have vegetable smoothie on the menu.so if you are health conscious this a good place to visit(remember the exercise of climbing up to the roof top !).Not only the food is light on your stomach its light on your pocket too.amount on menu includes tax.no extra charges.(check out the interesting way they present the bill brought in a glass filled with sea shells).cost for two 500-800inr.and its cash only.no cards.
We visited this restaurant after reading an article on metroplus and a disappointing lunch the day before at auroville bakery. Honestly the expectations were not very high.
It was in the by lanes of bussy street and might be difficult to find if not for the friendly auto driver. It's on the roof top of a 3 floor residence which meant that we had to walk up 3 floors. It's a small place just 5 tables and only 2 were occupied at the time of our arrival
The menu cards were hand made with limited options especially on non vegetarian . To drink we ordered basil lemon and ginger lemon. It was served quickly both were good especially the ginger lemon . It had ginger and lemon in the right proportion without one overpowering the other . For the main course we went for the only non veg options available roasted chicken and chicken in garlic sauce. The roasted chicken gave a feel of a cornfit chicken the amount of thyme was a bit more but I don't mind that. The garlic chicken is a dish which could easily be spoiled if you miss the right quantity . Banana cafe got this perfect and flavor was just right. Both the dishes were served with well seasoned fresh salad and crispy fries.
Given a chance I would like to visit this restaurant again and try the ratatouille
This place is a treasure hidden in a bylane just off Bussy Street. If you are craving for some authentic European food and don't want to burn a hole in your pocket, this is the place you are looking for.
This place is nestled at a rooftop of a residential building with dim yellow lighting and light jazz playing which makes it a perfect place for dates. The food is delectable and the prices very reasonable.
The service is prompt with courteous servers.
Don't miss this and take help from Google Maps. It's worth it :)
Pocket Pinch - 1800 rs for 6 people
Located on the Qazi street, this cafe will surprise you with its ambience and layout. The hammock, cane sofas, lighting , music, books and the Shiva portrait adds to the hip effect. The food is mostly french to bohemian in taste with the pastas, mushroom quiche and chicken grill scoring high. The drinks ranging from pink lemon to hibiscus juice flows smoothly with the food.
Pros- All the above mentioned + the courteous staff
Cons- Remember to apply odomos anti-mosq. (Not a marketing gimmick)
Bon Appétit !!✌🏻️
This is a small homely rooftop cafe near Bussy Street in Pondicherry. This cafe has relived back my days in Pondicherry in end of 2014 with my friends over lemon mind soda, which was quite decent and refreshing.
Sometimes, i went to have food in this cafe alone when I used to feel too lazy to cook and my chicken cravings remained high always. So yes, I used to have their grilled chicken with salad. It was really good as the chicken was well cooked and succulent , and yes, I liked the the they made the salad.
In this joint, you might not get too much option , in fact, I always used to stick to my grilled chicken and lemon mint soda but, as far as the taste is concerned, this joint is up to the mark. This cafe is not so expensive too.
It is perfect if someone is looking for food in homely atmosphere.
If you're looking for gourmet food at affordable prices, this is your place. Make sure to try their Roast Vegetables and, also, their Veggie Tart. The food is prepared fresh and is full of flavor, and that makes up for the not-so-striking ambience of the place.
A good stop if you're looking to spend a long afternoon.
The place was difficult to find. It is not exactly on bussy street. And be prepared to climb two storeys to get to your food. The service is bad but the ambience is good. Their food is amazing though and worth the wait and patience.
Found this hidden gem by accident ! On a Monday morning we were so hungry and stumbled here for breakfast. Just a terrace of an apartment converted into a cafe like atmosphere. Didn't give me much hope! They had a decent menu though ! And aura was so comforting and humble. Ordered drinks , the mint lime cooler was the best I have ever had !!! Period. The crepes were so soft, warm, yummy and just like how a crepe should be. We ordered nutella, egg and cheese, apple cinnamon ones and loved that wholesome egg and cheese crepe. The nutella was out of the world and we ended up ordering two nutella crepes back to back.
Must try is that lovely ratatouille which is prepared with a ragi crepe base here. It was out of the world. So good!!!
Its a sad thing that they don't accept cards. Wow.. What an amazing find and great breakfast!! New banana cafe will remain my fav in pondy breakfast options 😍😍😍
Amazing!!i thought the spaghetti was really great🍝! The view was good and the lamps looked gorgeous! But the service was a tad slow, it is also a good place to listen to the call to prayer! Very beautiful!
Located in a residential area, the place can be a bit tough to find. Take the third right after Mission St off of Bussy St from the bus stand. The ambience is very peaceful. The restaurant is on the terrace and it is well lit by lanterns. The menu is a bit limited, but the prices are very reasonable. We ordered a smoked tofu salad, ragi galette and fish. The salad was nice and refreshing and the smoked tofu was very well made, almost resembled smoked gouda cheese (one of the most heavenly tastes for cheese lovers). The galette is a good option for vegetarians. The fish was simple yet tasty.
The bill was very reasonable. The fish was 300, but the rest of the items were all less than 200. Would definitely recommend this place.
Located in a very clean and quiet locality, the restaurant is a hidden gem here in Pondy. I read the 6 reviews on Zomato before visiting the place and was a little hesitant. However, friends repeatedly asked us to visit the restaurant. We were in for a pleasant surprise. This is a perfect place where you can chat, relax, read books(they have a collection of books) and eat. It is not air conditioned but trust me the breeze out here on the roof top is amazing and does better than an AC.
We ordered one Spaghetti with Ratatouille and Cheese and Chicken Roast with Finger Chips and Salad. For beverages we ordered the Ginger Lemon Soda and Mint Lemon Soda. The mint soda isn't there in the menu card but it's a must try. They have mint plants on the roof top and they make the drink using the mint they're growing. It is very refreshing and highly recommended. The Spaghetti and Chicken Roast were made to perfection. The service is a little slow but that is good because you get to enjoy the ambience. Try out this place if you're not in a hurry and wanna try good continental food. Cheers

New banana cafe is a small rooftop restaurant with a unique flavour. The food is very different from what we usually eat. If you are a non vegetarian and you enjoy experimenting with food do try out this place. The chicken is amazingly cooked and it is always cooked properly (atleast everytime I have had it). The salad has a very complimenting dressing along with the chicken. The only downside is that you have to climb up two floors to reach this place and it takes time to prepare the food. But you can be sure that whatever is being served is fresh.
Visited the place after reading lot of reviews in a travel page but it's difficult to find as it's very inside some lane still we managed to reach but then again it's on top floor and they don't have lift. What disappoint me everytime is an empty restaurant and none nobody was there. Still we sat & order our food but happy to say food taste was good, they made it fresh it was hot. They lady who was serving was not comfortable with hindi or English but still see very sweet to take good care of us.
A rooftop restaurant located in the particularly difficult to find Cazy Street(if you're on Bussy Street, it'll be the third right AFTER Mission Street when approached from the bus stand).
When it comes to the food, it's hard to describe. It's a fusion of Indian and French food, as they clearly say. It's very different from the regular "French/ Continental" food that is available in Pondicherry. New Banana Café is worth visiting at least once.
They have the usual pasta(nothing special, just like any other pasta you get anywhere else).
The main attraction is something called a Ragi Galette(I'm not sure how to spell it) it's like an Omelette stuffed with cheese and you have your choice of filling(tomatoes, olives, potatoes etc). Served with a decent side of salad sans dressing
As I've said, it's like nothing I've ever eaten before. It was a wonderful experience, but I wouldn't recommend this to the individuals who posses a more reserved set of taste buds.
Each individual won't spend more than 250-350.
Seating wise, the chairs aren't really comfortable. Then again, the roof top ambience is pleasant, its a little dark though.
Even Google Maps doesn't help while finding this place. Located deep in the Muslim colonies of Pondicherry in the middle of a street called the Cazy street (new location), this quaint roof top restaurant is worth all the pain taken while searching. Do not be fooled by the cooks or the lack of service. The food will make up for everything.
They are known for their food and they do not disappoint. But yes, a few items may not be available.
And the location definitely affects its reputation.
