Classic coffee place in busy street of Pondicherry market. Feels like south Indian flavour of Heritage cafes just like all the irani cafe in northern India.
I reached Pondicherry and I straightaway went to Promenade Beach to see the sunrise. And while returning by 6.30, I got really really hungry. This was the only restaurant which opens at 6 to feed people like me and I am very grateful for that. They serve typical Tamil dishes. I had Idli Sambhar and Pongal. I liked chutney the least. The winner clearly was that ghee oozing Pongal, surprising you with bits and pieces of coconut, ginger underneath your teeth. It was invigorating. Coffee was less sweet, much bitter..Just the way I like.
I did not have chance to go back there, but this place will always be special to me as my 'Hunger Savior'
The dosa and warm sweets here are to die for. No frills wholesome food đ
Everything from idli vada, dosa to toasts and juice is absoultely great here.A must visit place if you are in town. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and a budget place to eat.
Totally Worth a visit and Money.

Lots of foreigners visit this place as it is foodies heritage. The old style furniture is another attraction and its ambiance is such that you are in 90's.
Quite a nice experience and it was lovely to visit this place.
Always happy to find such cafes which has similar ambiance to British or Bombay based cafes.
The ambiance is not that attractive. But the place is quite big. Ample seating space. Simple cafe.
We ordered spl sada Dosa, egg Dosa, coffee, Medu Vada.
They serve two types of chutney with sambar.
The taste is pretty good. Quantity is good enough. Satisfactory food.
Coffee was okay.
Staff is helpful with the menu.
Service was very fast.
Its pocket friendly.
Overall worth a visit.
On a breezy early morning along the streets of the Pondy Market when all the shops are still closed, this place will be lined up with bikes on the outside. What calls us inside is the smell of their steaming curry and the boiling filter coffee.
Start your meal with the Idly and gravy (tastes like Vada curry) which makes you feel satisfied with its ultra-rich and fresh kick. Almost all the tables in this place had one plate of this dish. You could then either go for the Buttery Pongal, Thayir Vada or the Poori. Almost everything was extreme tummy fillers; next up was the SPL Dosa. Unlike the formers, this wasnât great but still good enough to munch in for a start.
And finally, do not forget to have a sip of their fresh filter coffee which keeps you upbeat until the next stop.
This is one of the best and most economical spots for brekkie in the town. Thereâs good seating space and the serving was quick even when thereâs good crowd turnout.
serves authentic south indian food

Must try the cold coffee. Beats any major café chain!
So, I heard a lot about this place and finally decided to visit.
This place is SOOO GOOD.
Budget friendly, best food and quick service.
Lip smacking dosas, chilled cold coffee and rose milk are the ones which cannot be missed.
Unbeatable taste of South Indian foods and Authentic coffee from the famous co-operative societies run restaurant chain.
Must try:
Veggie Briyani - Lemon Water
Mysore Bonda
Masala Dosa
Chole Poori
Bread Toast - Salad
Situated in the middle of the busiest streets of Pondicherry. A perfect place to have authentic south indian breakfast.
We have ordered tomatoo oothappam, spl masala dosai, egg dosai, filter coffee.
Food is just outstanding and pocket friendly
Indian coffee house was our first venture after we reached Puducherry. All I can say their food is really tasty and after a long gap I had very tasty dosa .
Like the way the old look is retained and maintained. It did take some time for us to get a table for 4. But the service was pacey. We had pongal vada, egg sandwich and coffee. Pongal vada the best of the lot. We expected the egg sandwich to be something different or special, unfortunately it wasn't we had thought or expected. The coffee did have a good flavour, but felt a bit watery. Apart from that we did have a pretty good time here.
One of the oldest restaurants in Pondy....Situated in the middle of the busiest streets of pondy......The ambience might be below average but the taste is good....cost is pocket friendly...coffee and rose milk are super good...
Wow!! The best scrambled egg I have ever eaten! Super soft fluffy....sophisticated !! And an awesome puri Bhaji too! Wow!! Gourmet stuff in a nondescript Simple premise! Have been eating at Indian coffee houses all over since I was a child but this one is the best!!đđ the French toast or what they call Bombay toast is Devine too!!

Coming from the city of joy - Kolkata, it's always a pleasure to be hitting these outlets and getting a taste of regional tit bits.
Things to try - Egg dosai, veg cutlets, dahi vada, sambar vada, idli vada, cold coffee and faloods.
The cold coffee, for 25/- I bet you a 1000rs if you can find me better. The poori bhaji was great too.
The egg dosa was super peppery and delicious.
What a lovely rustic looking coffee house. I just fell in love with every single item on their menu. Well we just ordered Plain Dosa, Onion Uttapam, Idli Sambhar and two coffees. The taste of their Sambhar was so good. I haven't such good tasty one anywhere else in this country except in Tamil nadu. Really good food, good affordable pricing. Please try to visit this place one or two times if you're in Puducherry!
Authentic South Indian place to have the best South Indian food and filter coffee. The ambience here is old morning cafes with fresh cooked breakfast. Masala dosa and vegetable cutlet were out of this world and not to forget the coffee. I would love to go to this place every morning for my breakfast. It is very cheap and worth a try for everyone who goes to puducherry.
This place is Super popular with locals. We had Very good poori masala and onion Vada. I would recommend to anyone who wants a classic South Indian breakfast!
The coffee is nice too!

...................South Indian coffee and snacks available here..........
Reasonable price quality also ok.............. it was located in MainPondicherry.
Summary : delicious food at a economical price
Order : veg biryani, sambar rice
Food (4/5) :
Worth trying : sambar rice, veg biryani
The veg biryani served with raita is delicious. Fried breadcrumbs in the biryani added to the taste. The sambar rice was something innovative for me, the rice is allowed to marinate in the vegetable sambar , so it's almost like khichdi. Wonderfully spiced it is totally worth trying.
Ambiance (3.5/5) : old world ambiance with wooden chairs.
Service (3/5) : it was a busy day and we had to call the waiters to our desk. No issues beyond that.
Value for money (4/5) : economical for the fantastic taste.
This quaint restaurant has been in existence like forever :).. Well, we usually drop by for a cup of coffee or tea or some quick bites, after we are done with our shopping during my childhood..
Now I recently visited after my morning walk and the place is bustling with the same energy.
Try the Idly - Kadappa combo breakfast on Tuesdays. It's one of its kind in Pondicherry..
You always leave with tummy full and no regrets at this Coffee House..
Located in one of the busiest place, added advantage to have budget friendly small eats. One of the Oldest places in Pondy, Ambience describes the same. Service is actually on the poor side though. Grumpy and frowning ppl will greet you asking for order đ My favorite from them are Coffee and Sambar Vada. Best as always.
Probably one of the oldest places in the heart of the city. An iconic cafe serving great food since pre independence era. The min you enter here it takes you back in time. Everything is great here especially the cold coffee, egg sandwiches, veg cutlet and idli wada sambhar.
Great service and lot of importance towards hygiene.
Average cost of 2 ppl : Rs. 300
I loved sambar vada n cofee of this place
Delivery is superfast
Taste is goood
One busy place
Resonable price
Last bt eat is the best,
Can go fo breakfast
This one of the first established coffee house in Puducherry.Went to try there special coffee.I was upto the mark what I expected.Sitting in this cafe you can feel history coming alive.Good and cosy place.cordial and friendly staff
Good for a cheap bite when in pondicherry. Though the food lacks much flavour it is filling and proper. The service is good, and then ambience? You should not expect one. Yet as it is in the heart of the market it feels good when you step out.
One of the oldest restaurant in Pondicherry, you can see most of the senior people visiting this restaurant regularly, post a morning walk in Beach a coffee & sambar idly in this place is really good , crowded most of the time , good place to have a snack in the morning & evening.
Hidden gem in the hustle n bustle of the market ... everything is just so fresh and perfect flavours and authentic taste at very nominal prices !!
Been here on a long weekend trip.
It's look like the coffee shop from longtime and they are maintaining good ,coffee is very good and like to visit again
Obviously great egg dosa and an old-style ambience. The chutneys and sambar were flavourful. Filter coffee was A-class. Definitely worth a visit!
Falooda are must try when you go in evening, morning sambar vada along with Pori masala can turn anybody on. The real Heritage place that provides good service with good quality. A must try to feel the aroma of Tamil style cuisine.
Indian Coffee House is one of the oldest coffee shop chains in India. They have around 400+ outlets across India and have been in service since Pre Independence times

Located on a bust street , the ICH is renowned as it has been there for ages. Its a classic south Indian restaurant with mouth watering menu! Personally i love to go here on evening times just for quick bites amd coffee. The store is open till 11pm so its apt for a late dinner. The dosa, chaptis and idlis are average but the snacks are incredible here. Items like bajjis, bondas, toasts, vadas, kesari and a lot more are available readily and are very satisfying. Personally i love the bombay toastâ€ïžOverall a good place to be on a rainy evening for a hot snack!
As u enter u will get all the sound of chitchat n the smell of coffee will fill your heart n soul. With coffee u can try different types of food items specially cutlets and omelette is there speciality. All type of shakes like rose shake also good. Great old taste is there . Place is simple but food is great. Good place to sit and enjoy coffee.
Cheap, friendly, and yet so diverse in their menu. Every time I've been at Puducherry I've found myself sitting at one corner table of this ancient looking giant. It might be named as Coffee House but be sure to check other breakfast items. Needless to say, they all seem to be served at reasonable prices.
Located in Nehru street ( busy shopping place)
The oldest restaurant in Pondy, it will take you back to those days and give u a warm feel!!
After heavy shopping we dropped in for small snacks
We ordered
Rose milk - best rose milk, I went on the second day to drink that
Fanta
Bonda-It was good and sambar was brilliant
Cutlet - it had lots of beetroot and still tasted so good
Service:- old fashioned and good
Cost- cheap
Ambiance:- old touch and that's best about this place
Food:- good
#musttry
Food is great ..Must order are carrot halwa ,badam milk . Only this place in town has Bombay toast . But place has the worst service .
Ambiance :2.5
Service :1
Food :OK
Price :super budget
Indian Coffee House ! As the name speaks of its eternal glory this vintage outlet is a bliss.Affordable and delicious food .What else do you need.Lively ambience and quick service .The rava dosa and badam cheer are must try!
It is a very nice place with local flavour. The ghee roast dosa and coffee are must try things. The huge is dosa is crispy and the sambar and chutney are too good. The coffee is very aromatic and can make your day.
There are some places that are beyond ratings, for such things do not matter to them. If you happen to sit here on a table, you are being part of a pre-Independence nostalgia, tales of camaraderie of freedom fighters in French India, plotting plans and gathering and sharing information away from the British eyes and ears. That is something that cannot be rated. We've been hearing these tales from childhood. The photos on the walls of Nehru and Gandhi have witnessed changes in Indians and others since Independence.
That's the ambience. Those who take orders and serve are not only waiters but men who who would be sitting behind the cash counter on another day. They keep rotating services. It's a joy seeing old men still coming a tĂȘte-Ă -tĂȘte over hours of coffee. I cannot rate their service either.
Coming out of nostalgia, their eggs are to die for. Scrambled eggs are my favourite - the fluffiest ones you'd ever have. I love the Bombay Toast as well. I've had dosai, pongal, sambhar vada, uthapams, coffee many a time. Had a faloodah this time - was unlike it anywhere else, the fruits were coloured and soaked in a heavy syrup that tasted and smelt too sweet. The upper crust of the veg cutlet was crunchy; a little salt would have made it tastier.
You'll find at least one Indian Coffee House in any state or UT. And it actually lives up to your expectations. You'll find yourself an empty seat only if you're lucky.
The vadas are soft and fluffy, dosa was crisp and served with some lip smacking variety of chutnis and sambar.
Idlis were moist and soft. The filter coffee was served and it was fantastic. Also, the service is pretty quick and organized
If you're running low on your budget, visit this place for quality and quantity and, for authentic south Indian food.
This place looks like one of the oldest in Pondicherry.with its vintage look it takes it all. Even though the food is served u still look at its interiors.. It has a traditional look.the food is good just average. Ntg to spl in the menu too. The aroma of the coffee is through out the house.
This is one of my favorite eatery in Bengalooru and delighted to find on the busy shopping Nehru street.
Blue exteriors and wooden ceiling resembles those malgudi days house.
The interior of the hotel has a vintage look and can accommodate about sixty people.
We went for a hot coffee and butter toast although it is know for pongal, egg dosas and vada. Its delightful to sip coffee especially when its raining.
Just two of us went there to have a quick bite. Just heard of Indian Coffee House earlier but couldn't visit ever. Had few dosa items n coffee. Liked the coffee there. Good place to have a quick bite!!
One of those authentic landmark veg tiffin restaurants in town. I used to head there on Sunday mornings for a heavy breakfast to get rid off Saturday night hangovers. This was way back in my college days. Brilliant idly, vada, pongal, sambar, uthappam, kichadis.. Also the coffee.. Haven't been here recently. Probably should head there again for a Sunday breakfast :)
A very old place of pondicherry, serves excellent food. The filter coffee is great over here.Very good south indian tasty sambar and chutney with dosa.Highly recommended
Very no frills place. Serves some great food and filter coffee. Must try are the dosas and puri bhaji and the cold coffee (iced filter coffee!!!). Very good food and very VFM.
A place with best collection of typical south india chat items like bonda, dosa, bhaji etc.. This reminded me of Dwaraka bhavan (Basavanagudi, Bangalore). This place seems to be very old, but well maintained.
This place is a gem. Authentic (yummy) South Indian food. Quick service. No nonsense environment and bloody cheap!
Both vada sambhar and masala dosai was delicious. I liked how vada came dipped in sambhar. Not something you see up North.
The cold coffee is avoidable. Filter coffee is great though.
You see a lot of foreigners flocking by and so do locals. Just how it usually is at ICHs.
Highly recommended. Already went back next day and will do again no doubt.
It's an old local restaurant, you can enjoy southern indian breakfast. It was very crowded and it wasn't esayto order it. The food was great, the service wasn't good.
The cup & saucer have been used for too long and have many cracks. It doesn't look hygienic.
One of the best restaurant in pondicherry.
If u r visiting this place don't forget to order their Bombay Toast.
Next thing u love is their Sambar Vadai & Chola poori.
Love the by gone era charm of this place. Food was good for the price. Itâs a very basic place so donât expect high standards for hygiene. Service has to be prompt as they are so busy.
I have been here so many times . One of the must try place . Bombay toast is always ultimate. Sambar Vada was also good . U can try cutlet in the evening as snacks .Poori was just average, masala was only full of onions . Coffee was also good . Overall a good place to have breakfast or dinner . Price is slightly on the higher end !
The atmosphere is perfect for pictures, but it is clearly overpriced for the quality of the food and tea.
Had the toast and the bombay toast but they are not worth it.
Service is alright, quick and efficient. On our first order we got it wrong, asked for a change, but the change wasn't taken into account.
The iconic Indian Coffee House, where aromatic brews intertwine with lively conversations. Its vintage ambiance make it a cherished spot for its visitors.
Tried bun, butter and jam, coffee, Bombay toast, dosa. Just for the ambience one should visit. Their service is great.
A nice place to have breakfast. Food is good. Prices are very reasonable. Service by the waiters was also friendly, polite and fast. Ambience is more of a vintage coffee shop feel which was kinda nice too.
Good place to hang out with friends and taste delicious south Indian delicacies. A little crowded on the weekends. You need to grab your own seat and service usually takes time so come with no time constraints. You are likely to observe about 15-30 minutes waiting.
The staff is well behaved and very helpful.
Tried Bombay toast, sambar vadai,Mysore bonda and their coffee. Taste was good.
Service takes time due to the crowd and less number of waiters.
Food was worth trying!
No parking facility available. Have to park it in the streets.
Such a chill place!
One of the best place and best food.
Bombay toast was soo good and soft.dosa was also very nice.person on the bill counter was a bit character but overall very nice place must go there !

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this iconic eatery, and I can confidently say that it exceeded all my expectations.

The aroma and taste of the freshly brewed coffee are unparalleled, and it truly showcases the expertise and passion of the Indian Coffee House team. It's no wonder they have gained such a loyal following over the years.

In conclusion, Indian Coffee House in Puducherry is a true gem that has stood the test of time. Its delicious food, warm ambiance, and rich history make it a must-visit restaurant in the city. So, go ahead and make your way to Indian Coffee House for an unforgettable culinary journey.
Itâs a traditional hotel in Pondy. Itâs like a heritage building. I had dosa and Pongal. Food was okay. Expected a better taste. But not bad. You can visit if you want to have in a traditional restaurant
India coffee house has its charm and antiquity ... I had Bombay toast.. a unique bread delicacy... Of course filter coffe... Which was very good...
Honestly this place is not so very fancy or lavish.. but yes I went to this place because i heard of indian coffee houses a lot and been their Delhi location.
I had masala dosa and thali.
Thali was really delicious. I had meals before in south indian restaurants but never finish it all.
But this place may look little off but the food taste so well and prices are very nominal.. 300 rupees for 2 person.
