Awesome food !!!! Great Place !!! The must haves - Motia Palak - the best Palak dish I have had in ages... and Tadkkewali Papad Bhurji - a new twist to the Papad. And Dhaba de Dal is to die for !!!
Had been touring some remote areas South India and had been missing authentic Indian Punjabi cuisine. Being north Indian I do crave for my black daal and paneer. With apprehensions i randomly walked into tadkka dhaba and was pleasantly surprised. Just superb north Indian food.. even congratulated the chef to know where he learnt his skills ...guys must visit place if u crave north Indian cuisine while in Pondicherry ! !
Best and must visit Authentic North india food at pondy. Best on Quality and variety of food for both veg and non-veg.
Very nice food. Very good ambience. Very good furnitures also. Staffs are also very good.
Good place located in heritage town. Seating is not sufficient. Food is good. We ordered for anda curry, paneer kalimirch, roti, veg biriyani and lassi. Loved their anda curry. But they are not able to handle the crowd and fail to serve food on time. Make you wait atleast 30-40 min to serve a simple dish. Saw many of their customers walking out because of the long wait and when I informed this to the waiter cum cashier, he's so casual and least brothered about customers walking out. They need to improve on the time taken to serve the food. Overall ok experience.
Amazing North Indian options, especially loved the tandoori mushroom, melted in my mouth and was soooooo tasty! One must go here if they want to get their hands on some exceptional North Indian food :)
This place is my favourite in the white town area of Pondicherry, because of it's cosy ambience and the food tastes authentic literally. Tried the mutton curry with naan. And the price is little higher than the local places. The mutton cost around 300 rupees with taxes if i am not wrong, which is still okey because there's enough to be shared between two persons. Had tried the mutton and chicken biryani from here also..loved it.
If u are looking for north Indian dishes it will be a very good option for having ur food..
It is a small restaurant but ambitious is very nice. Decoration is quite good with music.
Food is freshly prepared & taste is very good.
I would like to say the quality of the food is outstanding..
We ordered in starter paneer malai tikka.. paneer was very soft & juicy.. taste is very good.. & for main course naan & chicken tikka masala..
Naan was good & coming to chicken tikka masala.. gravy was thick paste, & taste is proper North Indian..
No objection regarding food..
Coming to price it was worth but still little expensive but definitely you can try once...
You ll get authentic north Indian food here. best place to have some north Indian food in Pondicherry. interior is also good. good for groups. price is reasonable. overall nice experience. very satisfied.
A good North Indian Restaurant in Pondicherry. The board at the entrance says Kindly Overeat catches you and it will not cheat you. Great ambience, tasty food and mouth watering desserts.
Very tasty food. Open till 11:30 we cud get very nice food at the time when other places were closing. Highly recommended for ppl who want to eat north indian food.
I am always apprehensive to try North Indian food in South India and vice versa because authenticity is at stake. But Tadkka Dhaba is highly recommended to each and every one of those who have Punjabi cravings now and then. I entered the street where this restaurant is located and voila 5 points to the aroma.
I along with my friends tried both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. We ordered dahi ke sholay which I would suggest everyone to try because it was top notch. Paneer tikka was very soft and flavorful. Chicken tikka was absolute delight. It was juicy and tender. For the main course we tried the house special Anda tadka and Kadhai chicken and trust me it's one of the best. Dessert is a must and what better than gulaab jamun and ice cream.
Bottomline : Serves the most authentic punjabi food in Pondicherry.
Had chicken biryani, chicken masala and rice. All were super tasty. Chicken pieces were nicely and slowly cooked. The masala gravy tasted authentic. Service was quick.
Great cozy place to have authentic north indian cuisine....must visit place ven in pondy....
Loved the ambience too...hot and spicy food had a great time....
The sign board outside the restaurant says 'Kindly Overeat' and trust me, with the kind of food they serve, they ensure you end up doing so. Its a Go-To place for people who can't do without Punjabi/North Indian/Dhaba food.
A pocket friendly place compared to a lot of good restaurants in Heritage Town, this restaurant has something for everyone. The owners are very warm and cordial and personally monitor each dish that is served to every guest visiting their restaurant.
This place definitely deserves full marks for its food and there's absolutely nothing that would disappoint you here.
Suggestion: Do try their Chicken Kofta Curry!
Verdict: Highly recommended.
North Indian restaurant i.e. Pocket friendly and delicious at the same time. Seating space was limited though. Among 3 managers, one was very rude but the rest two took care of it. For drinks we ordered Lassi and lemonade, both were perfect. Moving to Starters we ordered Dahi k shole, coin samosa and paneer tikka, all were worth. Main course dishes were also Good. Desserts including faluda and gulabjamun were perfect for climax.

Very good ambience and good taste
And best north Indian dish and the staff were so friendly and best place to have north Indian dish and the starter paneer tikka and rotis and sabzi are good
On my recent visit to Pondicherry, I craved for something desi after all the cafe hunting and came across this outlet while scrolling on zomato. I had given second thoughts looking at just decent rating but I am so glad I visited here.
Its a small outlet serving North Indian cuisine... the food is really good and pricing decent.
The seating is minimalistic and so is the staff so during peak hours some delayed service might be expected. The staff at the reception seemed a bit rude but another Hindi speaking gentleman stepped in and saved our experience and made it a pleasant one. I could understand then why all the negative rating this place has.
Food- We started of with some drinks and starters. Masala chaas and shikanji are go to drinks here. Bel ka sharbat and lassi was average.
Starters were good out of which Dahi ke sholey would be my fav pick out of the veg. lot.
For main course the gravies were delicious. Dal makhni was lip smacking. Kulfi falooda and hot gulab jamun was a sweet end to our meal.
Overall, a very good place in terms of food for North Indian delicacies. Thumbs up from my side.
A very good option for Ppl looking for North Indian food. It is underated on zomato for the kind of food it serves. Most of the options that they had were delicious. For starters we tried 3 items and all were worthy of being tried. Special mention to Dahi ke Sholay.
For mains Dal Makhni and Double mirch ki daal is what i liked. Veg Jalfrezi and Paneer were little too sweet.
Kulfi falooda was a perfect end to the late lunch.
The person on the counter was rude and almost spoilt it for us but all thanks to the person with Tattoo on his hand who helped us with smiling face. Kudoos to you man!
Food was good.. The different thing here is no soups in menu.. Ambeince and all was good.. Even the decor is good.. Kids also liked the food
It is a small place , however it serves super tasty North Indian food. We had a stay in Pondi for 4 days and couldn't find any North Indian restaurant better than this.
Their Dal Makhani needs a special mention. It is as authentic as it can be; especially in an area like Pondicherry . The service was quick although it was quite late in the night and we were a group of 8 people.
I would highly recommend it. Good food, good service.
It's a small place in heritage town with lovely quirku interior decor. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. We had kulchas, naans, paneer starter and butter chicken. Best North Indian food I've had in south India.
Was on list since long time..And finally Saturday night it was..Small quirky place, they have tried hard to give it a dhabha feel by one liners, art, steel jug and tumblers.Menu gives you a feel of typical north indian dhabha,so is the food. A bit spicy on taste but that's how the dhabhas are..6 7 tables are inside ao can't promise you seats on weekends..Service is fine..We had ordered Kadhai paneer..Tandoori Roti's..Butter milk is better than that thick lassi..Rajma chawal next time!!
Absolutely the best north indian food that you can get in town! Don’t waste your time hunting other places. This is your destination. This place deserves a rating of 5.
One of the best place for North Indian food. It's bit expensive but worth, quick service. This restaurant place is too small only 8 tables are there.
The Tadkka Dhaba is all for being a Spicy Foodie. If you are much fond of hotness & chillies, then Tadkka Dhaba is the place for you. Food in this place is quite delightful and service is also good. Ambience is sort of colourful with natural Punjabi setup. A must try place for all the foodies out there!
Highly recommended place for spicy North Indian food . Price is little high but it's worth the taste . Tandoori was really great and must try . Friendly service .
You will rarely come across an out an out Punjabi restaurant in the town of Pondicherry. Be warned, do not have great expectations and it will help you find the meal served here pretty good. It serves standard north indian dishes at reasonable prices. The taste is above average, the quantity per dish is a concern, the service is a tad bit on the slower side and the location is a little secluded. Recommended only if you have North Indian food cravings!
A small North Indian outlet serving authentic food.
Clean and inviting ambience. Quick and courteous service.
Taste and authenticity are their plus.
Soy masala, veg jalfrrezi, rajma rice with raita were perfect in taste, flavour and presentation. Affordable too, for what you get in terms of environment, service and quality of food.
I had heard about a new dhaba that had opened in Pondy and being a food lover, I had to try it.
It’s a small restaurant with barely 5 tables. The interiors are made with a dhaba in mind with peppy colors and wooden benches.
I tried Tawa mushroom, tiranga paneer, I liked both, the paneer cubes were huge and it would be enough for 3 ppl. Mushroom was made well and wasn’t too spicy or oily.
Garlic naan, aalu kulcha, Motai palak, Paneer bhurji, Bhade ki dal, Dum Biryani- The quantity for the side dish would suffice 2 people. The food tasted really well and it was made to suit that dish correctly. Biryani was the best and quantity was enough for ppl with good appetite.
Pricing is average and affordable.
I could have given 5, but the staff was rude to us when we asked him to cancel the last dish as it was taking long. He replied rude and told we should have ordered before if we were in rush.
Just 2 dishes
Butter naan and butter chicken
These 2 make you forget the entire world around you and just make you engrossed with the taste of the food
There is no better restaurant than this for the above mentioned items.
The other dishes are also really tasty and are quite different in style for the type of cuisine found in pondicherry
The briyani is typical North Indian style briyani full of flavour and spices
And to the end meal with the super tasty Gulab jamun with ice cream
The jamuns are hot and fresh
And the cool ice cream just complements them perfectly
Best dishes : butter chicken ... butter naan ... panneer khalimirch ... chicken briyani .. gulab jamun
Drawbacks: the restaurant is quite small and tends to be overcrowded during weekends
Some might consider the dishes to be overpriced considering the other restaurants in pondi .. but the for the taste they offer it’s completely worth it ..
This was a nice discovery during my trip to Pondi. Me and my friend was looking for a north indian vegetarian place to have dinner (friends veg). I was looking for a specific restaurant but luckily I found this place instead. It a okay-okay place in terms of number of sittings at a time, ambience is good and people are friendly. Even owner helps out and takes orders. We ordered some veg kebabs, roti, naan and special dal (see pics). Everything tastes great, I liked the food personally. I also got to taste dal makhni, which we requested separately as we finished gravy first, instead of breads.:p
Overall food wise I had great experience here, it takes some time for them to serve food, but I feel its worth the wait and considering pondi as a tourist destination, prices are fair. Gets my recommendation.
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3.7/5
Service -3.7/5
Price - 3.7/5
P.S. :- They didn't charge us for dal makhni.
They serve Non-veg as well.
Awesome food to fix cravings for North Indian food in Pondicherry! Haven't seen many restaurants that serve Rajma chawal.. which was wonderful as was the kadhai chicken. Really like the fun way it's decorated too.
An amazing place to be at if you are craving for North Indian in Pondicherry. We ordered a rajma chawal( rice mixed with cooked rajma) and a double chilly daal which was actually the spiciest I have ever had. The taste of rajma was very authentic with proper blended spices. Rice was well cooked and the portions were good. The decor is all coloured with funky quotes and ambience is peaceful.
Very few restaurants in pondicherry serve north indian cuisine especially our beloved RAJMA CHAWAL🤤
You wont be disappointed with it✅
The quantity was true to the cost.
The rajma perfectly cooked with lots of coriander garnish 👌🏼
Rajma + raita = ❤️
Do try the SHIKANJI MASALA SODA it will remind you of the days when jaljeera packets were one true love.
AMBIENCE: small but quirky
Definitely going back whenever i crave some simple north indian food .👍🏼
Will try other dishes too😌
Rajma masala, paneer butter masala and butter chicken with naan were very tasty............... The quantity was also a lot.............
The order took a lot of time but the food was really nice............

This place is great for typical North Indian food in general ranging from murgh makhani masala to plain old Roti the dishes are great. One little turn off is that the place is too small but takeaways are always an option ! The food tastes great but the ambiance ain’t that good though! Overall good if you’re on a budget ✋🏻
One of the best places in Pondicherry if you are craving for North Indian food! Colourful and Quirky interior. We ordered tandoori chicken and chicken biryani and both the dishes were amazing!! Must try if you are in Pondi.
Food, service, price, music everything great about this place.
We ordered pindi chole, paneer makhni and all time best of this place - "garlic naan"
#day1--> After a really tiring day we came across this awesome^infinity restaurant . We ordered paneer butter masala , mix veg, garlic naan and butter roti. First bite into garlic naan took us to heaven and we ended up ordering 3 more of them . No less praise for butter roti which were crisp and rightly buttered . Panner butter masala and mix veg complemented each other very well and we ended up having an awesome evening . Kudos to tadkka dhabha team . Well done
#day2 --> we came here again for dinner . This time we ordered chole and paneer makhani with garlic naan and we yet again enjoyed the food to its fullest.
The ultimate destination for northindian cuisine in pondy ......
Their chicken keema balls is a must try .
The roties are made to perfection and the gravitas go along great . The ambiance is good enough to take a picture for your Instagram the wall paintings especially.
Had a great experience with this place. Came back extremely tired from Paradise beach and decided to order in. The guy on the phone asked me to send the order via Whatsapp, and to my surprise got a very prompt reply as well. We ordered chicken biryani and kadhai chicken. The order arrived in less than half an hour and the food was delicious!
Extra points for great service!
One of the best places in Pondicherry to serve authentic north indian food.Located in Aurobindo street this place is where you should try biryani to raitas to paneer to chicken butter masala.Swear you won't get disappointed. The food is fresh uber tasty and cooked to perfection. The ambience is nice and warm lit.Service is very good with well behaved staffs. As their catchline suggests "please overeat" I am sure you all will do.
Best BUTTER CHICKEN MASALA ever in pondy .
It will be the best treat for North Indians 🤗🤗
Spiced up chicken in smooth gravy will be great combo with Tandoori roti😋😋😋.
Pondy lovers....make a visit 😘😘.
Taste so good but they can work on the ambience of the restaurant for better experience👍.
Rajma masala, paneer butter masala and butter chicken with naan were very tasty. The quantity was also a lot. The order took a lot of time but the food was really nice.
I don't know much about the Punjabi food, but if someone takes me to/suggests this restaurant for a lunch, I would happily oblige; for the food was ok to my taste.
The prices are a bit on the higher side, but that's ok; I have had far worse for double the prices.
All in all, I would recommend this place for North Indian dishes.
This restaurant is not very big just about 8-9 tables, but i tasted the most authentic North Indian food here. Loved the Butter chicken and Tandoori chicken. The Awadi style Biryani is wow.. never knew Veg biryani could taste so good. Must try if you love North Indian food.
Wonderful food...north indian authentic taste with flavours embedded so smothly...nice place to visit.
Good place to have rajma chawal and biryani which is so aromazied with flavours that u cant stop urself....
Both paneer tikka and hariyali chicken tikka were awesome. Tasty and yummy kaddi. Onion mucha was excellent as well. Rajma gravy was the only pull back . That too cos it was little oily. Otherwise awesome place and tasty food. The ambience is lively and clean. Welcoming serviceP.k. Shivram
Dhabas were characterized by mud structures and cots to sit upon (called Charpai) while eating. A wooden plank would be placed across the width of the cot on which to place the dishes. With time, the cots were replaced by tables. The food is typically has a 'homemade' feel to it.
many Indian truck drivers are of Punjabi descent, food and music is quite popular throughout India, the word dhaba has come to represent any restaurant that serves Punjabi food.
The tadkka dhaba in pondicherry carries out the reputation of a dhaba in a fancy way!
Rating: 3.5 / 5
Price : 350- 400 a person.
Where : Aurobindo street
I've been meaning to check this place out eveytime I cross the street and I get a whiff of the flavors.
The ambience is pretty quirky as you can see in the pictures. The tandoori chicken melted in my mouth and the naans were super buttery and delicious. But, what kinda ruined it for me was the butter chicken, which was what I was awaiting for the most. It was sour and not butter chicken. I would totally pass it for any other chicken curry.
But other than that, this place could really do with a wider menu. Do check it out if you're in town.
Superb food, if you have cravings for good north indian food then this is the place to be small restaurant but very tasty food, do try tandoori chicken, butter chicken, papad bhurji that's amazing....loved it....Price point of view also it's good not costly
A must visit place if you want to eat North Indian food in Puducherry. Paneer tikka and Veg Jhalfrezi are awesome. Price is a bit on higher side and service is slow.
This restaurant is a bit of relief for North Indians who have had enough of South Indian food.. the restaurant is small. Bright interiors, not so comfortable chairs.. we ordered an egg curry and a chicken tikka masala and some roti. The good part is that food was piping hot.. and fresh.. the taste was definitely as if it's prepared by a North Indian.. served with onions, which is a rarity in Pondicherry.. for the taste it was average.. but definitely one of the good north Indian food to have in Pondicherry.. the bad part is it's quite costly.. though they do not levy GST.. but the prices are already kept quite high as compared to restaurants around..
Awesome place.
Ambience - 4
Quality - 4.5
Seating - 3.5
Service - 4
Just don't try Palak paneer.
Kadai paneer is well dressed and served along with chicken keema balls.
Lassi is must ...It's awesome chicken varieties are very good ..Had a great dine Butter naan and planner tikka is also good. Must to try if looking for a Punjabi cusine
10 years of living in Pondicherry many hours spent hunting for good North Indian food, my search ended here. Tasted most of the dishes on the menu and I haven’t found a single dish not to my liking. The taste is very home like and the presentation is perfect.
If had to pick a fault it’s just the space in the restaurant. Feels claustrophobic on a busy Sunday afternoon.
The best butter chicken in Pondicherry by a mile.
Got this place accidentally while going another restaurant. We had kadai chicken, chicken curry, rice, veg jafrezi. All dishes had its unique taste. I would recommend everyone for North Indian food in Pondicherry. It might cost 400 per person.
Great North Indian Food in Pondicherry. Its a nice ,small place with a good ambience and all the dishes we had were good in taste especially Dahi ke Sholey and Punjabi Dal. Do try on your visit to Pondicherry.
Had the Motia Palak - palak was smooth as silk... and Tadkkewali Papad Bhurji - a new twist to the Papad. The food was quite tasty and healthy, the presentation was perfect without going overboard, and the service was quite efficient despite being a busy afternoon - just what I wanted during a holiday.
Awesome food. Had a great lunch. Food quality is Really supper. Price also OK. Not over rated. You will really enjoy the time. Spend very good time
Awesome food !!!! Great Place !!! The must haves - Motia Palak - the best Palak dish I have had in ages... and Tadkkewali Papad Bhurji - a new twist to the Papad. And Dhaba de Dal is to die for !!!
Accidentally been to this place with no expectations.!
It’s a tiny place with some 4 tables and catchy ambience..
We started with tawa chicken and it’s simply superb.!
In main course we had Tandoori roti, Butter naan and chicken kalimirch.!! And it’s definitely one of the best North Indian cuisine I have tasted in Pondicherry.!
And to add this place is absolute wallet friendly.!
I would strongly recommend this place..
Good and tasty food..Value for money....Must go if you are a lover of rajma...Very selected menu....Items are good...Thali meals is also good.
A decent food outlet right in the heart of the heritage city. Have tried their best to create a dhaba feel in the small n cute place available. Liked the way of service, water is served in clay containers. The staff is courteous. Had ordered roti n palak chicken to go with it, chicken rightly cooked. The chassis could have been better. Overall a wonderful experience, a bit heavy on the pocket though...!!
Amazing Indian food, very fresh and very rich. Beautiful ambience and the staff is very welcoming. The prices are very genuine. The best Indian food I've tasted so far in Pondicherry
Restaurant advertising to be North Indian and looting customers as if people are unfamiliar with this cuisine. And cherry on the cake is the customer service. There was literally no other customer than our group and yet there was utter negligence.
Food tastes fine, atleast what we ordered including typical gravies both veg and non veg and the breads. The Awadhi dum biriyani was delicious.
Not much spacious.
Classic cute ambience with quirky wall art.
Suitable for small families.
Narrow streets, might be difficult to find parking though it’s not on a much busy street.

Ordered kadai chicken from this place… it was awesome…. Excellent flavour and smell… would definitely try other items from the menu….
The food here was tasty. The menu has not got much variety but if you are looking for a good lunch or dinner this can be a place to look up to. The service guy can speak multiple languages and is well mannered. The order turn around time is a bit high though. Nevertheless, the food is worth the price.
The fried rice here tastes more like biriyani though😂
Wonderful service, they speak multiple languages so there is no communication gap, and the food was absolutely delicious.
We tried the Paneer Makhani with the butter naan. We also ordered Paneer Tikka for starters. This was one of the best paneer tikka's I've had. I keep a record of which places serve the best paneer tikka, based solely on taste, this one was a whopping 8/10. I have only seen such a good taste in few other places.
So, if you visit, be sure that there are some great vegetarian options. Not to mention, the non-vegetarian options were ample good looking for those who love it.
Hey northies, I know this is very much hard to find the best place for main course and starters in pondicherry,
So this is the best place where you can enjoy the perfect meal you want in main course and the taste of their food is too much awesome that you will love it but let me *warn* you guys about something I don't like and that is the quantity they are serving in starters but the taste is good that you guys will anyway enjoy it.
But this place is mainly for main course meals from my recommendation.
I hope you guys will enjoy here,
If you will then make my comment helpful.
The management is very nice, we have visited all of sudden to request some rice and dal for our 9 months old baby. Though dhaba was closed, they understood our situation and arranged food. The good thing is they didn't charge anything as the food was for the baby. Very kind and helpful. Thanks a lot to the entire staff.
Good food . The hariyali paneer tikka was exquisite. Also try the butter naan. Car parking is a problem.
One of the best North India dhaba style food in town. Their Paneer dishes melt in your mouth. Chicken Tikka and Dal Makhni were excellent. And we had nothing to complain about the accompanying Naans and Kulchas. Their Dahi ke Sholey is one of the definate highlights
Authentic North Indian food. Very tasty chicken tandoori and chicken biryani. Butter nan is original. Portions are small though. For 4 people, it will cost atleast 1400 for a full dinner. Place is casual type, ideal for families. Serving is little slow, takes atleast 25 mins. So if u order something during eating, it will arrive only after u have finished the entire meal. Bathroom is a little cramped space. Overall, cosy place to have a relaxed and very tasty meal.
We ordered around 10-12 dishes and not even 1 dish was mediocre. All the dishes were 100/100. Amazing hospitality and mind blowing food. If you crave for good North Indian food in Pondy, this is the place to go.

The ambiance is good. Dishes are also good but their behavior in treating the people is worst. THEY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO ATTEND CUSTOMERS. I asked for the garlic Nan after one I already tasted and feel like having one more, the person said can't you order same time. he was rude saying why give single order and also check your bills before you pay.
Service
I don't know why this place is so underrated.
I ordered aloo Paratha and kadhai paneer, it was really delicious and
Better than any other north Indian restaurant in pondicherry
Must try for North Indian cuisine.
