One of the best restaurant with authentic continental cuisine..the ambiance is excellent.. courteous staff and it is located near the french part of Pondicherry
it just couldn't get better than this on a saturday..winter noon..the right set up..exquisite cuisine..prompt service..awesome location..the best mix..had a great time filling our souls with prawns..lasagne..and few rounds of beer..and the selfies..well..those were priceless..
Went to the restaurant for dinner with family, we were a group of 7 including children, the food and service was exceptional, they were very cooperative and made some special food for the baby.we sat in the air-conditioned restaurant, they have a open air out door area also under the mango tree.
Awesome place!!
Very good service and good food coupled with a wonderful ambience made our day out in pondicherry very special..their special cocktails were amazing..will definitely visit again
Excellent continental food
Located in the old French area, you always expect continental food and this place does not disappoint at all. Sitting is predominantly outside so the weather has to be pleasant to enjoy the food..
Excellent Food, Excellent Service:
The place is spread across a good area and you can sit comfortably here. the staff is polite and service is good. We ordered prawns in starter and fish in the main course and both were delicious.
I just want to keep it short and say, JUST GO! Just got and savour everything on the menu. Great location, décor and atmosphere and very attentive staff. The food is excellent - a really varied menu - and reasonably priced by Pondicherry standards.
Good food & service
Great location
We love the ambiance & menu
We very much like the fish fingers, fried calamari, seafood lasagne
We are looking forward to visiting again
Lovely location, great ambiance - gives a true feel of French Colony. Courteous staff too. Was just satisfied with the food, nothing extraordinary though. The place has lovely pictures of Pondy that are close to a century old.
You can visit the place for its ambiance and look of it.
Found this restaurant on Zomato and it was perfect for us as we were looking for some good non veg food. The ambience was peaceful and the food was good and to top it all off the desserts were yummy. The staff was friendly and co operative. In short this place is like a hidden gem located in the famous White town.
It was such beautiful romantic place...the pasta n food is reasonable.. tequila seems to be reasonable...worth the money for food and ambience
A very nice place, the ambience is very colonial
It's right opposite the famous Ganesha temple and the place has a certain charm to it...
We ordered mostly sea food and it was decent
The catch of the day ( red snapper) was cooked very well, I had opted for the indian style... Grilled prawns very average ... Chicken steak were nice and grilled to perfection... Service is slightly slow but staff is very courteous ...
Would strongly recommend you to visit this restaurant for it's chicken chettinad and dal tadka! Sometimes the most simplest of food items can be made so tastefully well that it leaves a long lasting impression! I came back to this place only for it's chicken chettinad and it was worth everything!
Loved the ambience. The seatings on the deck are the best of the lot, however not suitable for summers. Ordered the sea food platter, sea food lasagne, chicken lasagne and chicken pasta. The food is quite food. I highly recommend the seafood and chicken lasagne, one of the best I've had. The prices however are little on top for the quantity served.
First of all we amazed with the ambiance. It gives a sure feel that we are not in Pondy. Tree side sit out restaurant and also a Air conditioned sit out. The ambiance itself will give me an heart full feel. The food is just an add on. But the taste of the food was so good. We tried mutton biryani, Keema mutter, chappati, french fries, fish and chips, salad choice of chef and hot and sour veg soup and all were so tasty. Especially the keema mutter was awesome. Finally we had curd rice that was a master piece. Dessert we were not so happy other than lime soda. Overall the experience was so good. Their rooms are also like fresh style houses which was so unique. Nice hotel to stay and nice restaurant to have food.
Went there just for some drink as was thirsty with street shopping, amazing ambience, I ordered lime soda was good i know it's just like soda, should visit again
But amazing place for a date
Ambiance:- good
Food :- good
Service :- good
Price:- good
Situated at the white town area, a romantic restaurant according to me. I loved their ambiance. It was not very crowded. Service was good. we ordered beer first and they gave that with a fried chick peas. As in mains we had chicken parmesan and grilled fish with assorted vegetables and starch. We enjoyed their food. Service was very prompt.
The restaurant is located inside Hotel Du Parc and is always quiet. The chicken lasagne is perfectly cooked, cheesy and has a little bit of tanginess. The rates are very less compared to the restaurants surrounding it. It is very pocket friendly and has some great food to enjoy in solitude or with friends. It has a nice ambience.
The ambience is the brownie point. Service is amazing .staff is helpful. We tried chickn makhni which had a perfect taste and consistncy and galic butter naans. We also went fr baily shots which are at much cheaper rate. Desserts are good too. The restaurant is located in main market area yet it maintains its privacy
This has become our regular spot for lasagne :) everyone should try it.. Its pretty decent price if compared with other continental hotels in Pondy..the veg quisedellas , bourride de possoin ,soups , calamari pepper continental style are very yum.. Do try them.. I really don't understand why this hotel is not all that famous yet !! May be the hotel is yet to be explored..
Decent taste and value for money. No signature dishes. Very little selection from French menu. My Steak well done was well done.
Service at the restaurant must improve a lot.
Nice and Cozy set up tucked amidst trees to the point that you feel you are dining on a tree top restaurant. Prompt and well informed staff was a key highlight of our visit.
Exhaustive menu with a wide variety of continental and Indian cuisine well complimented with a decent selection of wines and cocktails. The tenderloin stroganoff was exceptionally well done with well cooked beef chunks and fragrant herb rice. The Tuna Niçoise salad was too sour for our taste though. Also, the tuna was shredded, unlike tuna chunks in the typical Niçoise salad.
I would definitely recommend this place for the continental food in white town.
Located inside Hotel Du Parc,,, La Marée offers you a fairly predictable menu but the food isn’t disappointing.... The French onion soup, a common feature in most of the Puducherry restaurants appears here too,,, alongside the usual lemon nd coriander soup etc.... The Tuna ala Nicoise,,, one of the classic seafood salads,,,, is worth a shot here... From the main course section,,, you can choose between the grilled fish, the grilled scampi with lemon butter, coq au vin (chicken cooked in red wine sauce), or even a filet mignon, or a lamb goulash.... Their Vegetable nd Cheese Quesadillas are quite popular too,,, as are the pastas, where each pasta is divided into type, your choice of sauce, nd served with vegetables or chicken.......
Not even a stone's throw away from Manakula Vinayagar Temple, La Marée is located in the heritage hotel of Hotel Du Park. It offers French, Italian, and Indian food at compelling prices.
When you enter the hotel, you will walk into a beautifully designed building with raised boardwalks, wooden staircases, and hanging lights, and even a couple of fully grown trees. A nice heritage hotel amidst the busy streets near the temple and Raj Bhavan.
Appetizers & Salads - The menu doesn't offer such great appetizers, but the salads are pretty good. Chicken In Honey Mustard salad was pretty good in terms of quantity, but it was lacking the thick honey mustard dressing I was expecting. Instead I got a plate with sweet chicken and veggies. A Slight disappointment.
Entrée - As far as serving sizes go, almost every section of the menu has decently portioned plates which offer a good amount of whatever you order.
Tenderloin Stroganoff was ample in terms of serving sizes and was served with a side of butter garlic rice.
Spinach and Mushrooms Lasagna was slightly low on the serving size, but it did pack quite the punch with flavors.
Red Snapper - Served with a side of either fries, mashed potatoes, or butter rice, and a spicy garlic tartar dip which was spiced to perfection along with a moderately sized Snapper(Catch of the day). Amazing!
Ambience - The restaurant is air conditioned, a rarity when it comes to heritage hotels, but the the only negative I picked out was that they serve water in recycled Aquafina Bottles. So it sort of threw me off for a while, at the same time creating a small confusion. Otherwise the service is so-so and the hotel doesn't offer many things to complain about.
Expenditure - 300 to 400 an individual.
Verdict - Not bad for a quite meal with friends. Overall a good place to relax and have a good meal.
Nice pleasant place. We were staying at hotel du Parc when we visited Pondy. A beautiful serene place. Their restaurant is pretty decent. The regular food items in their is good. But the complimentary breakfast they offer has to be improved. There was hardly anything in their buffet. One thing I like about this restaurant is they are open till 11 unlike most places in Pondy. So it's a place you can count on of you are out late. The service is good. The staff are pretty courteous. Over all its a good place.
My family and I were visiting Pondicherry and we decided to visit this restaurant. The indoor ambience is pretty basic but at night it is so pretty with lights hanging from the tree.
We went here for both dinner and lunch. For dinner the only thing I didn't enjoy was the chicken in mushroom sauce. It was really chewy and I couldn't finish it. But the onion soup, Caesar salad, baked spinach and the pasta were so tasty and delicious. All mains are served with fries/rice and veggies. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures during dinner.
For lunch I had the fish in spicy garlic sauce that was really good. Especially the sauce. We also had Catch of The Day which happened to be snapper cooked the Indian way which was tasty. We reordered the Caesar salad and baked spinach again because it was just yummy.
The prices are very reasonable considering the area and the other restaurants in the locality. For the 4 of us the bill was around 1.4k. Staff are courteous and helpful. They could improve on the indoor ambience though.
All in all a great memorable experience.
Food - quality has deteriorated, i tried continental food "Coq du vin" but i dint like it much. Ambience is good and they have outside sitting arrangement too which looks beautiful at night. You can definitely go on a date there. Location and service is good :)
I really loved the feel of the place .The staff were pretty amateurs but I loved the way they dealth with few situations on our table....mushroom soup that I had here was one of the best that I have ever had...I loved the spinach mushroom lasgne too...
They should probably start terrace facility too....
Just came across this place while walking through the French colony - looked pretty good from the outside so we gave it a try - had huge open space (outdoor as well as indoor seating). Wasn't a very happening ambiance or crowd, but food was pretty good - and we enjoyed that, along with the conversations. Nice place, overall.
One complaint - staff wasn't courteous at all - almost rude. Took half an hour to get the bill.
Most restaurants serve you good food. But what makes the difference between good food and great food very often, is the smiling face serving it to you, which for us humans raises its value exponentially because it comforts us, and food after all is the highest source of comfort. La Maree has it all, great food, amazing staff and good location. Their Crumb fried mushroom was juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and cooked to perfection. I ordered Grilled prawns with butter sauce, it looked beautiful and tasted wonderful. Not the sauce though, that was too lemony and not palatable for me. The prawns had their exoskeleton and legs on, but on learning that I wasn't comfortable with it they offered to remove it for me, with a nice smile again. For dessert, I was recommended their Chocolate Fondant, which though not a Fondant exactly, was simply the best Warm Chocolate Cake that I ever had. I loved these guys and I'm sure to visit them again.
I've been here multiple times in my last two visit to Pondi and this place has become my go-to restaurant. Price is reasonable and food is really good. Fungi soup, fungi salad, coq au vin, filet mignon and chicken 65 are some of the things that I've tried...I'm missing a few in the list from first visit. Chicken 65 is more like chicken popcorn in taste but not bad at all. I wish they had boneless version. Fungi salad was fine. Rest of the things were very good. They have happy hours from 3pm where you get Buy-1-Get-1 deals on some selected drinks.
This may be my first review of the place but its my third visit and that says a lot.
Situated in middle of White Town is a lovely cozy place very humble and decently priced also.
You can choose to smell the breeze of sea while having food or sit in an air conditioned restaurant.
I ordered fried calamari and catch off the day which was Red Snapper in lemon butter sauce with mash potatoes and vegs.
WOW! What a catch and starter. Snapper was just melting in mouth cooked to absolute perfection and that sauce could have eaten a bucket load. Calamari was crisp and perfectly cooked not chewy and and had a great coating. Mashed potatoes lacked seasoning but by far the best food ever.
Service is good and courteous. Waiters are patient and they explain the dish so well.
If you are in town this is the place to be.
See you soon Hotel du Parc
This place is situated just near the entrance of French Colony.
Basically it's a hotel whose restaurant is open for all. They have divided it in a nice casual way. Indoor & outdoors section have completely different atmosphere.
We were there just to have snacks in afternoon with a drink or two as they had happy hours. So can't comment o
But I loved the ambiance of the place the time I stepped in so will definitely like to visit again to spend some more time!
Very good food. Nice ambience. Good service. During our stay in Pondicherry, we would frequent this restaurant as we simply loved what was offered to us. My favorite dishes were Veg Biryani(simply awesome & very spicy), pasta pomodoro(Veg), paneer butter masala, Hyderabadi vegetables, warm chocolate cake. Being a vegetarian, I can only vouch for vegetarian recipes...
This one's the in-house restaurant at the Hotel Du Parc near the Promenade - a bit of a mixed bag. I'd say go for the salads and the pastas here. And order your whole course together, 'cos it can take some waiting.
La Maree was undoubtedly the best food experience we had on our recent trip to Pondi. The restaurant is housed in the heritage hotel Du Parc, which used to be residence for french governors to Pondi. They serve both continental and indian food. We opted for the continental fare and we were delighted by the taste, quality , freshness and quantity of every item we ordered. We started with a mixed seafood salad which had generous portions of squids, prawns and fish shreds and some fruits in fresh mayonnaise dressing. This was appropriately called " Queen of the high seas". For mains, I tried their Filet Mignon , a classic steak which was done to perfection. The ambiance, reasonable pricing and the great food makes La Maree a must if you are in Pondi !
Just Wow! After boating at Paradise Beach wanted a lavish lunch and got exactly that and cheaper than expected!
Ordered Olio Pasta which was al dente n light perfect. Chicken Gordon Blue was tender inside and crisp outside..
Had a perfect lunch in a perfect vacation!
Its one of the best place to dine.. be it french or indian.. its simply the best.. satay chicken is a must for starter n if u wanna try indian here try the kashmiri pulao..
Housed in a true heritage building (formerly the French Governor's residence), it's probably not an exaggeration to call La Maree, a hidden gem. In the extensive food explorations of our two day stay at Pondy, this place really made a mark. We tried the French Onion Soup, a mixed seafood salad and the Fillet Mignon steak. The soup was a first time for me but it was hearty and a bit spicy, with delicious cheesy croutons melting into it. Next, the mixed seafood salad totally lived up to its name; " Queen of the high seas". It was just awesome : the perfect balance of ingredients and flavors. By then we were convinced that they sure know their trade really well. The Fillet Mignon also turned out to be well executed and very satisfying, juicy and great to taste, with fresh and hearty sides. Best of all, everything is very reasonably priced here, including the alcohol! I have rarely had such great continental fare without a pocket pinch. Highly recommended for all those wanting to explore the best of the Pondy food scene, but on a budget!
For continental cuisine at Pondicherry at reasonable rates and beautiful ambience you need to be here. The steaks are tender, juicy and perfectly cooked, and so are their lasagnas and other delicacies. Nice experience!
This place was a delight to my pure vegetarian friend on my visit to Pondicherry. The pasta , quesadillas, and there are many types of rotis such as phulka, chappati and naan. There's catch of the day too for fish lovers
Hopped in for a late lunch, and it was quite satisfactory. The hotel has a vintage touch to it, and you'd feel relaxed and laid back as soon as you step in. This restaurant is on the first floor and offers a majestic view of the hotel walls, doors and balconies. It was probably something to do with the kind of people who were dining in when we went, but the fact that it was so quiet inside really stood out for me. It was good to see people eating their meals, drinking their beer or wine, and chatting without making noise. We ordered one grilled fish with garlic sauce, which was somewhat overpriced for the quantity of fish served. Also, the fish wasn't as tender as you'd expect. We also ordered one Kali mirch chicken with roti, and that tasted quite amazing. The downside was perhaps the chicken pieces which were really bony so you'd end up with mainly the gravy and roti. The service is prompt and the staff is friendly. Overall, a decent and peaceful place to dine in and relax.
Good hotel :-D one of the best in French colony... And squid is awesome.. prawns is good... Rates are normal... Wish to go again... :-D ....
Love place to chill. Located near the raj bhavan. Lovely locality. The whole place looks amazing in the night. The food is quiet good. The price is moderate. Service is nice.
Restaurant within the hotel du parc right across from surguru spot. Nice place. Very basic decoration. Staff are not eager but definitely responsive. Biryani chk was good. Soups were good. Moderately priced. Thinly attended during lunch on a weekday.
Very close to the Ashram with parking on the roadside Du Parc is always my choice during my visit to the place. Attached to their heritage hotel the restaurant offers good conti breakfast, i think they do serve buffet. The staff is so friendly. We went after lunch hours once and the staff welcomed us. Thank you. The food is good and tasty.
They also have open air seating, i have never dined in there.
It is a Good restaurants with Good Food.
Staff is very helpful but little late in service.
Choice of Menu are Good but can be better. We had some Chinese and Continental food which was okay in taste
Visited Pondicherry this weekend and went looking out for places to eat dinner and happened to this place which is not too far from the beach road.. A old French heritage house converted in the restaurant was indeed inviting. We ordered a couple of beers each along with French fries which were very good, followed by calamari rings continental style which were just ok which I presume could have been better. The main we ordered was mutton Kheema with peas served with Indian bread which was again just okish. On a whole the place is good for a single meal. The major problem I faced were the mosquitoes. Hence I suggest one to go the air conditioned section than the roof top.
Good food but mediocre ambiance...we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch though... The greek salad was not really greek but it was really really good with fresh feta and crisp veggies.. Brinjal curry was lip smacking and so was the dal...pulkas/chappatis could be better
A 4.5.
The non vegetarians loved the food. We didn't order veg. Lasagne. Fish and chips. Pasta. One above the other. The price is decent. And on the higher range. But affordable. The ambiance again is amazing. You have a choice to sit in or out. And they serve beer too. So. Aa yayiee. Service and management. A 5 on 5. We had a sick friend along and they helped all the way with no fuss at all. When asked for directions over enthusiastically handed over a print out of the entire city that made life sooooo convenient. Visited this place on my last few hours in town but would visit again if I be there. ?
Food was good. Quantity was ok. We tried the French cuisine like coq au vin, roasted chicken with mushroom sauce and grilled scambi with lemon sauce. Price was fine.
La Marée is locate inside the Hotel Du Parc.
After roaming around in pondi and after a visit to the Ashram, we just wanted to relax for a while. So went to this place which has amazing antic french decor and architecture. There was no food at that time, so we just sat with our chilled beers. Must visit again to taste their food tho. Lovely greenery place , such a nice ambience.
If you want a perfect meal in Pondicherry this is the place to be! With strings of fairy lights, yellow lovely French architecture & outdoor seating, La Marée is a delight to the eyes.
The menu has a variety of cuisines and we ordered the Veg platter of Quesadillas, Pasta Provencal and Grilled Scampi. What lovely dishes all turned out to be, with every morsel the food tasted better! Only a full stomach stopped us from ordering more food. Then for the most yummy part of the meal- For dessert we ordered the Crème Caramel & Fondant au Chololat & Oh My God! The combination of cold perfect caramel pudding with warm spongy chocolate cake will take you to your happy place!
Complimenting such delicious food was amazingly golden service by the staff. N. Ayyappan, the Director of the Hotel attended to us, accommodating us a 100% & made sure we had the best time!
Many many thanks to La Marée for the best last dinner on our trip to Pondicherry :)
Good ambience and not very crowded (I went around 2 PM for lunch).. Not all items in the menu were available.. We ordered some steaks, lasagnes' etc.. Food quality and quantity were good
La Marée was a good experience. The food is nice especially the grilled fish in garlic sauce. We also had a sea food soup which was good. The hotel rooms at du Parc are also cosy.
Typical French type construction will make you think "Ah so will this serve me the French food that I longed to eat for a long time?"
Well perhaps maybe.. The ambience is really good.. Typical French construction.
Coming to the food, its neither too good nor too bad, but its good. Reasonable pricing and it was surprisingly quite filling.
I would recommend u to go to this place at least once during your stay
