Located in the most happening place in J M Road, this place offers good chinese food at economical rates. Frequented by College Crowds, this is a good eat out. Sevice was not slow..that's why they missed points.
A Good Chinese joint. Decent environment and friendly zone good place to hang out. Must try seafood dishes as well. Great staff enjoy sitting in outdoor sitting area.
Excellent taste..Best Chinese food i have ever had in Pune..whenever i feel like having tasty Chinese food prefer china gate.Hunan chicken, paneer chilly burnt garlic rice are must try here.

I been longing this visit from a long long time, perhaps never got right time, their stringent time frame of closure in the afternoon, pushed me back after reaching at their footstep.
To start with the place, one of the oldest on JM Road, they have barely changed their old interiors, heavy plates, some with marks, sadly I came 15 minutes before closure so they were in hurry to serve and end for the day.
We ordered Tom yum soup for it was watery yet delightful every bite, with big chunks of mushrooms and chicken chunks. Gave a kick every bite.
We ordered for red dried chicken gravy with chicken singapore rice. ( they didn't have prawns in stock, strange, for we found huge menu in sea food, they should have better excuse than saying khatam ho gaya)
No issues with the food at all, huge portion, but terrible schezwan sauce, actually disaster, cause one can't expect this class of sauce from a restaurant serving Chinese cuisine, it was like the road side sasta sauce, they need to really work on that soon, it's a strict no no.
Small cozy inside, ac helped us adjust the climate we came from outside, food was served soon, parking was always an issue but if you ask them they will provide you with solution.
Won't visit so soon, but not a bad option at all.
Ambiance was great. Food taste is quite authentic. Chicken lollypop tastes fab.. The rice were well cooked with chicken and other souse. well maintained atmosphere inside the hotel .

This place is good. The staff is polite and cooperative. Food served is best. But this kind of service should be maintained. Because sometimes the service is so poor that, water is also not offered.

I like to go here once in a while to have some quick bites , the taste of soups and starters is nice.. recently had chicken chilly here, the food is definitely more on a oily side .. you can still make special request to make it less oily
I have been there many times. I will must say that I was not a big fan of Chinese food but sometimes I love to try. I am a big fan of chicken lollipop and I have tried at many places, but I'll say you will get best chicken lollipop at China Gate (JM Road).
We ordered for chicken lollipop which have nice fragrance and taste of ginger which is the major ingredients of this dish as per Chinese cuisine and you will get that taste here only in the whole city.
We have also ordered tender chicken satey which is very smooth and soft and have fabulous taste as well.
Then we ordered chicken Singaporean rice and chicken shezwan noodles in the main course which absolutely overwhelmed us.
I must say that now I am a big fan of Chinese food only because of this restaurant.
Service was very quick and prompt.
Hygiene was up to the mark.
Ambience was good too.
Overall very good place for Chinese lover...

The taste is good and they accept card payment. The staff is helpful and their suggested dishes turn out to be good choices.
I was surprised how good the suggested black bean sauce was, which went so well with the chicken that I had ordered.
Place is Really nice and serves authentic Chinese no food colouring .. I think all Chinese lovers should try this place. And which has reasonable rates for the Dishes. And main thing the staff is really polite and happy to serve kind of.

Nice sober experience of food.. Pure continental food you will get here.. Nice in taste.. Hotel is very neat and clean.. Service is good. Have ac and outdoor seating arrangement.. The menu has almost all the type of chinese food. Recommended foe Chinese food lovers.

Food-
Chicken Salt and Pepper-
After much contemplation and asking the server for suggestions, we decided to go for this dish. It is a medium spicy chicken appetiser tossed in soya sauce and garnished with spring onion and coriander. Yes, you read it right. This is Indian Chinese for you wherein it is garnished with coriander. It tasted really well with mild spices. Just a small suggestion is to clean the chicken well by removing its skin.
Egg fried rice with burnt garlic
I always make it a point at times to order something which is not on their menu to test their flexibility to serve their customers. So here we have for you fried rice with egg. We suggested them to add burnt garlic flavour for us. So they put finely cut burnt garlic on the top of the fried rice. We'd have preferred if it was mixed well. Nevermind they did oblige with our request. The fried rice was really well made with great flavours.
Chicken with oyster sauce -
It went really well with our egg fried rice with burnt garlic. The combination was really perfect. I did not find much difference in flavour from our appetizer. Although, the oyster sauce was good and not that overpowering.
Ambience -
Nobody was sitting indoors although it was really cold outside. They have sofas and chairs with hardly any distance between two tables. I believe that this restaurant is doing pretty well and some renovation would help improve their interiors. As they have covered the cracks in the wall with newspaper cuttings.
Service -
The service is really good and polite. However, we wanted to order chicken mongolian earlier but the server told us that it would be very spicy and we would not be able to handle it. But further added that it won't be very spicy which made us hesitant.
As a concluding note, you have to tick this place from your list if you are looking for decent Indian Chinese food.
Best Chineese food I ever had in pune. No usage of colours and excess oil. My personal favourite is manchurian with gravy and hakka noodles. I have tried almost everything here and still in love with the food.

China Gate serves tasty Chinese at an affordable price. Since the menu is extensive there is a great many dishes to choose from. I love the dishes with the black bean, Chinese greens, mushrooms, bamboo shoots ... the menu will read the dishes and elaborate on it's style and ingredients, making the meal exciting.
This restaurant I have been there many times and love there chicken dishes specially chilly Chicken and Chicken hakka Noodles and Shezwan Rice I really like there cooking chicken crisply cooked in chicken chilly.
My favourite place for Chinese after mainland china. Super delicious food and that too at reasonable price. Best combo you can ever have. I've visited so many times there and tried almost all the items. All were just fabulous
I have heard about this place for a very long time and finally decided to visit today. It's a good place with great food but if you have a big thing for ambience then this is not the place for you. Indoor as well as outdoor sitting is quiet conventional but food was really great, nice quantity and a very prompt service. If you love chinese from the bottom of your heart this is the place for you on JM road.

P.S. This used to be my fav dining place before.. but the latest visit changed my views. Service was horrible, food wasn't good, unlike what i was expecting. It was average, but unsatisfactory! :(
Edit: Like I said, I often visit this place since it's one of the places I like to eat in. I'm rating them with a four because of the very humble staff and their PAD THAI NOODLES(which is the only thing I eat these days when I'm there). :)

Taste of every dish served is different n mesmerizing if u want to have spicy Chinese this is the best place. I have always preferred this restaurant when I want to have Chinese cuisine.

Visited this late in night with craving of some Chinese food.
Ordered burnt garlic rice and a schezwan noodles with manchurian gravy.
The burnt garlic rice are the best I've had till date. Great garlic flavor and noodles were quite tasty too.
If costs are brought down a bit, this can be one of the best value for money in city.

I have visited this place more than a month now, but thankfully due to good experience i still remember everything.
I was a normal weekend evening & we wanted to try something good on J M road. As China gate is well know restaurant we decided to go there, as well as i do not really have very good food experience with other restaurants in the same area i had my fingers crossed.
The ambiance is not so good inside i mean i got a very sad feeling when entered... :D
We ordered Chicken lollipop which is all time favorite & found the same well prepared. It was crunchy on the outside & juicy inside. I have always experienced very dry lollipop So, i always go with some sauce with it, but these were good.
After this we wanted to try something spicy. Considering our previous experience, specially with Chinese food we never come across really spicy food in Chinese preparation; as a lot of vinegar is used. Hence, we ordered "Singaporean noodles" after waiter's suggestion. he even kind of warn us that, it will be very spicy.
Noodles were neither greasy nor with extra sauce in it. It was enough dry. It had green chilies in it & so was giving it that spicy test; I just loved it. The most important thing is, i did not see overflowing oil on any dish at all.
We absolutely love the food & polite behavior of the staff.
So, if you want to test spicy Chinese, this is the place for you.
Love the vegetarian spread a lot. Authentic Chinese food. We were introduced to this restaurant by my SIL and ever since then we have never stopped visiting this place in order to satiate our taste buds. The pricing is inclining towards the steeper side, however, the quality and the quality justifies it all. For those who are looking for ambience should not expect much , but if you love for good Chinese overpowers your need for ambience this is the place to be :)
It's going to be almost 4 years since I left Pune (a very late review), but whenever I recall China Gate, I can still feel the lingering taste of the yummy Chinese food I had there, along with my friend. We loved the food so much that we used to go to the restaurant, almost everyday. The ambiance is good and staff cordial. The service is also prompt. You get your value for money, in terms of taste and quantity.
I Recommend - Red Cooked Chicken, Wolly Chicken, Shredded Chicken in Red Sauce with Chicken Fried Rice.
Whenever I feel like having Chinese food, this is the place which strikes my mind. Delicious food,nice ambience and good service. I would recommend to visit it atleast once. I regularly come here and always will. :D
The restaurant is so so... The shezwan fried ricr did not seem so extraordinary... I had the egg fried rice... which was okay... The schezwan sauce was sweet and not like it is supposed to be... should have been better for just a Chinese restaurant..
Went there randomly with colleagues. although the place looked old but the inside was different. Comfy seating, good old bolly music, great tasty food. A must visit place for chinese lovers. Order noodles with chicken.
I remember going to this place when I was in my 1st year of college but stopped visiting this place eventually. This used be the first place in my mind whenever anyone wanted to eat Chinese. Visiting this place three years later, I must say, this place has improved a lot!! It is clean and better lighted. The people working here are always warm and their service is good. My friend and I walked in for lunch at 2 p.m. and still the place was full. This place has a combination of both the young as well as family crowd. We started with Veg Manchow soup.#manchowsoup
This the restaurant I had my first meal in Pune at. This also happens to be my favourite place for Chinese. Nice indo-chinese food. Super tasty. Have tried pretty much everything here. Nothing is bad.
P.s. - Ask them to make your food with less oil and you will love it. Otherwise everything is dripping with oil or covered in oil or filled with oil. Very nice service by Richard. Love this place.
Ok this place doesn't seem to be a lot when u sit in, the ambience is kind of sad. But then, an ambience cannot fill stomachs. They have really nice soups, their starters are quite tasty and their main course is quite filling since their quantity is more than enough for 2 or 3 ppl. Scrumptious food. We often take doggy bags home. It's a nice place to visit. And the most important thing is that it's pocket friendly.

One of the best places in the city for eating Chinese food. Unlike most places which give you Indian Chinese filled with masalas, this place serves a more authentic form of the cuisine, and at very affordable prices. The Chicken Wanton soup and the Chinese Chopsuey is to die for. The remaining menu, which is vast, will get your mouth watering. The service is quite quick, and the owner himself gives personal attention to the customers, thus making the meal a pleasant experience. This place is a must for any person who loves Chinese.

We had been there on Sat, the 16th Jan. I, my wife & my two sons in their 20's. I had stayed in Pune for a good two years albeit 30 years ago & had frequented Deccan like no one's business. My wife is from Pune but with a veg orientation mostly.
We looked at the hotel from outside for a good ten mins before I sent my son for a recce of the place & we reluctantly walked in at 9.30 at night with no options whatsoever in sight.
We chose to sit inside as outdoor seating appeared little clumsy. Being from Mumbai I inquired about the non working a/c & the person at the counter laughed apologetically.
Slowly it downed on us that this place is a bomb ( term used to describe authenticity ) & utterly professional.
The person who took the orders was totally clued on to what was on the menu, he suggested us the right mix as per what we were seeking & was extremely quick. Later I came to know he had worked at the likes of Chopstick @ Mumbai for quite a while.
We ordered Chicken in salt n pepper sauce & Crispy veg schezwan along with Yan chow chicken clear soup. All these were really amazing & the portions served were also sumptuous leaving little room for main course. Mind you, my sons have a good appetite so the quantity in relative terms can be fathomed.
We ordered veg fried rice & Chicken in black bean sauce with a little gravy. Completely original & exquisite taste !
We are quite a foodie lot & we were thoroughly & pleasantly surprised by the fare on offer China Gate dished out for us. It's appearance might be humble but it serves mightily original & Succulently phenomenal Chinese cuisines.
All their staff is well uniformed & courteous & knowledgeable. I haven't found a better professional outlet aside of the likes of Mainland China ( at a huge, huge premium )
We had a bill totaling less than 1500/- that would have been easily north of 3000( minus alcohol) at any upmarket Chinese restaurant in Mumbai or Pune
I promised them I would write a review & the 0.5 star I didn't give them was only for a slight delay in service & for a general upkeep of the place. The place looks too stark.
That's the only downside, otherwise China Gate @ Deccan is worth traveling from Mumbai just to have lunch or dinner & return happily.
I honestly want to give this place a 4 but that would not be justified to the places i actually have marked a 4. I have been to this place numerous times and it has always served its food the same way in a good way that is. I find people and drag them here ! They serve authentic chinese food one of the few places in pune. The place is clean and the staff is very polite and helpful. I always make it a point to eat here if i am at that side of the town. Good value for money.
I am a frequent visitor here. Today i got to click few snaps and now the review time. This joint is one of the best available on JM Road. Dont go by the way it looks, you will be surely impressed once they start serving you.

Chicken Sweet Corn Soup. Its good. Needs an improvement. Chicken was a bit uncooked.
Chicken Thukpa.
The Thukpa you get here comes very close to the one you get in Ladakh. Its by far the best i have ever had in pune city. The quantity is huge. Well you can skip your meal after a bowl of Thukpa. Try it out.
Chicken in Barbeque Sauce.
Not sogn of Barbeque Sauce. Dont know why they have named it. But well i must say its damn tasty, maybe Indo-Chinese people have their own Barbeque Sauce.
All in all a satisfactory experience. A must try joint when you are in the vicinity of JM Road.
This is a nice place very under rated . Pretty decent Chinese food . Moderately authentic. The ambience is nice. Staff is just brillient. The food there is fantastic. Their Cantonese fried chicken was amazing like the best with dark soy tossed on it.
China gate is situated on JM road and is there since a long time.I don't know what others have to say but I like their food and service very much.I don't know if Hot pot Mongolian soup is served anywhere else in Pune but there's is best.A big pot of soup with coal in the middle and the soup continuously simmering.That pot could serve around 6-7 people or more.Other Chinese preparations are also good.But if you are out for some authentic Chinese food then this surely is not a place for you.It lies between the local Chinese shops and the authentic one's.
Try their chicken hot pot Mongolian soup for sure.
The experience at China Gate has always been nice for me. When the mood of having Chinese food strikes us, me n my better half invariably land here.. Got good soups, clear soups are special and so are manchow etc. Tried Tom yang with mixed feelings.
As for veg section they truly have some really nice offerings. Oriental delight is always a delight.. Zucchini baby corn etc done nicely in great sauce.
The non veg section also has simple as well as little off beat tastes. All recipes are done nicely with balanced flavours.. Schezwan chicken, roast chicken chilly and quite a few prawn options.
The Malaysian flat noodles deserve a special mention. They make a good meal a great one.
Nice service. Takes a lot of time on weekends for service. But worth the wait.

Yummy food if and only if you order the right stuff. Fish hunan is good for less spicy taste buds, even american chopsuey! Prawn fried rice and noodles is great. Some fish sauces are much too spicy.
Good ambiance with good food, this place should be on your top list if you crave for good Chinese. Service is good cooperative. Was here for a friends birthday and all of us enjoyed the food here. We ordered stir fried vegetables with burnt garlic fried rice,Mushroom chili and schenchuan noodles, the taste was mild and flavorsome. The balance of spices and sauces was unique, veggies were crispy and fresh.
Highly recommended for get to gathers and birthdays if you really appreciate Chinese.
