One of the finest bakeries in the city. The product are freshly baked and are available at an affordable price. I've tried their buns, brownies, glass cakes, hazelnut biscuits, shrewberry biscuits. I must say their quite tasty.
Please do give a try if your in or around this place.
When a Mumbaikar wants biscuits this is where they head to. Indeed they are a favourite to the old-school addicts.
The low profile vintage bakery lies behind an unobtrusive green door in the narrow part of Main Street No exaggeration it has the best toast ( as they call it ) Khari, plum cake, milk bread in the entire country. May God keep these valuable priceless heritage venues alive for more generations
Qwality backers ! Fresh Products! Traditional backery products ! This is one of few British era Parsi run Backeries in Pune and one of the 5 original backeries of Camp with still the same taste! They make most of products daily which get over by evening.
The qwality is top class and rates pretty resonable. They still use oven run on wood rather than one on electric. Traditional backers products like Butter , toast , buns , Brun, sticks are still available here. Their range of cakes like plum cake and walnut cake are really a treatise! Bread is available both of standard slice type as week has milk bun.
All products are not available all time and most of products get sold off pretty quickly once they are made.
Qwality is more preferred to quantity and their traditional customers are pretty much loyal fans of their products. I have been broughtup in neighbourhood and even I am a one. I still miss its products when I am out of town.
Special products are available on Christmas Eve. Shrewsberry biscuits I would say just try them out!
To sum it all in all one line it is to get your tastebuds get a royal treatise of this Royal Bakery!
A truly iconic bakery that lives up to it's name. Their cakes- plain and choco walnut are unique. I personally prefer all their products over those from Kayani. Shrewsbury biscuit is probably the best in the country. The brun, bread, milk bread, toast, nut biscuits, cakes, everything is a 'Must Have'.
While Kayani is the most famous old Parsi bakery in camp area, the royal bakery has a class of its own.
The Khari out here is one of the better ones among the many bakeries in camp area. Very skillfully prepares flaky yet doesn't collapse when u dip in hot chai.
The milk bread is another legendary item here which most suitable for a healthy breakfast. However it's sold out on most hours.
The plum cake is another favourite.
The fan biscuit or sugar khari has many call didn't amaze me too much as suggested by others. Found it too pricy too for it and not worth at all.
Don't miss this fascinating old bakery if on MG Road.
**Cookies Alert***
The Royal Bakery at MG road is really tempting Irani bakery from ancient times!
This a famous for shrewberry cookies,Kharis and well known for "Milk breads"
Milk bread and shrewberry cookies is the speciality where from whole pune people come and eat❤️
Go and taste it's worthy to go!
Their are also variety of Namkins,Biscuits,Soft and fluffy breads!
As mentioned in a previous post most of Poona's old Parsi and Irani Bakeries have their own specialty - at Royal Bakery it's their Mawa Cake (yes it's better than Kayani), Milk Bread and the occasional sound advice given by the old Bawaji Uncle :)))
A great place for batasas anf khari biscuits. Love their Shrewsberry biscuits too, perhaps the best available ever ! One cannot miss the place on a rather busy end of M G Road. However, the bakery should also move on with the times, starting with accepting digital monies !
They make the best Batasa biscuits. The best. Families and people all over the country wait in desperation to get their hands on them again. Their Shrewsbury biscuits, Mawa cakes and Khari is also very good. If you've grown up eating these items, you will be overjoyed by the taste of the products from Royal.
Note: make sure to check their timings and make sure to get there early as their freshly baked stock gets over soon.
A bakery on the busy MG road which you can find if you follow your nose. The lovely mawa cakes and batasa they make can be smelt from miles away and their khari is to die for.
Love their stuff, make sure I visit them each time I am in Pune to pick up some yummy goodies....
I like their bread and milk vita bread. They are so very good. Milk vita is just right to have with tea or milk or you can have it just by itself.

I must say this place is the best for breakfast items. Whenever i pass by i make it a point that i halt and drop in and pick up some breads, cakes and biscuits.
I love all their preparations and its very pocket friendly.
So i'd recommend this place for people who fancy bakery products 😉
This place beats Kayani & Diamond... Nothing more to say....

Love their soft sliced breads and the fragrance of it whenever you pass by the place. The bread they give is completely different from other breads, soft and fresh apply butter and dip it in tea and you are in heaven.
They have good shrew berry biscuits too
This place doesn't catch everyone's eye in the MG road.
Shrewsberry biscuits are excellent. I would rate them as best in Pune. Even better than Kayani.
One interesting thing is written on the packing of their milk bread MILKOVITA that is - "The bread which stays fresh for 100 hours and keeps you fit for 100 years."
But its quite clear that the place has lost its charm.
I come here often @8 am on a Sunday morning to grab a couple of broons. If u haven't tasted broon@ royal I guess yr not fond of bakery products. The best you will get & a definite must visit fr all.
Camp vicnity always gives that parsi vibes and attracts you on every weekend for exploring its food journey. Royal bakery visit was always on my wishlist for its one in unique kind of "Milkovita" bread. On reaching the place, I was in love with its vintage entrance door.
Milkovita bread comes in prachment wrapped with bread loaf uncut. It is super soft and sweet made from milk.It would make an excellent french toast.
Royal bakery stocks other items like Wine cup cake, biscuits, cheese papdi and pig ear biscuits (i.e. little hearts fame).
"The bread that lasts from 100 hour and keeps you fit for 100 year"
Milkovita stock lasts till 11:30.
Encountering true blue Parsi outlets of all shapes & sizes is why walking through Camp is always such a rewarding experience. While Kayani gets all the hype in the many bakeries that abound in the area, there are a few that are older and still doing brisk business. One such is ROYAL BAKERY established in the early decades of the last century so it is as vintage as they get, housed in a building that now looks charmingly derelict, almost heritage;-). It is a family-run business and displays all the quirks typical of such establishments. The fact that they are to be found busy selling what they have been selling upwards of a century is such cause for celebration that I almost begin to feel sorry for all the namby pamby bakeries catering to the cupcake/cheesecake-crazy yuppies that have begun to mushroom everywhere.
I have long been a fan of ROYAL BAKERY’S plain KHARI (Rs 70 for 250gms). I find it the only khari in town that is able to hold its structural integrity in spite of being subjected to packaging, commute, storage and finally getting dunked in hot tea! There is none of the usual khari rubble that one gets from trying to cleanly take a bite of other ones that may have also gone through the same process before they are unsuccessfully conveyed into my mouth. It takes skill honed through scores of years to perfect a khari which is at once flawlessly flaky yet unlikely to collapse into untidy fragments that fall everywhere but into your mouth. The CHEESE KHARI (Rs 80 for 250gms) is in a twisted cigar shape – while I personally don’t really dig flavoured khari, it is popular with friends & family so I always make it a point to stock it in my larder.
While Kayani on East Street may be synonymous with SHREWSBURY BISCUITS, some time back I discovered a worthy opponent in ROYAL BAKERY’s version of this legendary shortbread (retails for Rs 80/250gms). I liked it so much that it has actually dislodged the more famous variant and nowadays I actually pick up Royal’s more often than I do Kayani’s, although I do miss the fact that this one doesn’t come in an identifiable box like the blue one of their rival’s. The other favourite biscuit of mine here is the COCONUT (Rs 70 for 250gms) one – a thin disc, perfect with black coffee. The desiccated coconut incorporated into the cookie dough is discernible in every bite. It is not as chewy as thicker coconut cookies are but I have begun to like the brittleness that it achieves on account of the biscuit’s gauge. Both the biscuits are a little too sweet for my taste so buying a pack of khari becomes even more necessary every time I purchase these.
Their no-frills WALNUT CAKE (Rs 120) can be a decent option for those who don’t really prefer cakes with cream or icing. The cake itself is rather chocolatey, not too sweet and has a fair amount of walnut bits (but mainly at the top). While I do refrigerate it when I get home, I suggest you simply take it out 30 minutes prior to serving so that it can regain its soft springiness. They have a popular PLUM CAKE too which they retail whole year round and not just at christmas time.
They are really famous for their MILK BREAD (which is legendary enough to have its own epic tagline: “the bread that lasts for 100 hours and keeps you fit for 100 years”) but it is such a superfast moving item that for a really long time now it has proven totally elusive to me – I hope to catch it again one day soon – apparently you have to pick that one up as early as possible, preferably before 1pm otherwise they are likely to be over for the day. Consequently I have had to console myself these days with their SANDWICH BREAD (both white and brown available; bought the white one for Rs 20 recently) which is still sold wrapped in brown paper tied up with string, thus allowing me the rare opportunity to put the breadbox in the house to some use! I have found the bread better for toasts rather than sandwiches – for one it is sliced quite thin and has an oddly hard nature (and I don’t mean in terms of the crust). It thus lends itself pretty well to being used as a vehicle for toppings so you can rustle up some nice homestyle crostini or bruschetta using it.
For those bitten by the nostalgia bug, ROYAL BAKERY is a must-halt on any M G Road touristy walkathon. Don't miss the fascinating shop next door which has a bunch of master cobblers hard at work – a rare sight in the city today!
Old and good. Butter biscuits and Milk bread are the best. Plain cake is better than Kayani Bakery IMO. Buscuit variety is limited. Take fresh always

A friend of mine made me tasted few of their Iranian delites........i must say they are the masters of baking, milk o vita... The milk bread was just killer, simply I loved it...i wish I get it on my breakfast table everyday.
I've been frequenting Royal Bakery since I was a child. My grandfather's favourite place. These guys know their shit. The Shrewsbury biscuits will melt in your mouth, the glass cakes will melt in your mouth too, faster though. The sponge cake is legendary. If you're looking for savoury stuff then go for the cheese paapdi and Khaari.Last but not the least, the granddaddy, CHOCO WALNUT CAKE.It is beautiful and you will cry after eating it.
The biscuits, cakes, and breads all are just excellent.. We just have to be careful with their timings.. If you want the there is a branch in Fatima nagar where you can get the use quality stuff.
I saw a very good review given by Mr. Bal in Chakh le India, NDTV good times. I went their to take milk bread three times, but unfortunately not get because of Sunday or evening time. Anyways I have tried Shrewsberry biscuits which I found better than Kayani's. Their sponge cake, walnut chocolate cake and breads are really good.

Located right infront of my grand dad's place, Royal bakery is one of the oldest bakery in the Pune city. I would get the smell of freshly baked bread every morning and wait for bakery to open. Personally i love the bread with small jam pieces in between. Usually everything is sold out by 10 am.
one of the old bakeries in camp.. love their jeera butter! catching them on the right time is essential though.. all the fresh products here get over in a
jiffy..
Royal Bakery is one of Pune's oldest bakeries situated on the busy MG Road. It is most famed for the biscuits and the delicious cakes. The place starts bustling with people as soon as it opens and everything generally gets sold out by 10am. They serve the best hot fresh baked bread.
Very clean n pocket friendly baked goods. A must stop n shop before going to school n returning from school. Royal bakery run by generations .
Very nice quality brun, they are special known for this. We go there to buy this every Sunday.
Have been enjoying their choco-walnut and sponge cakes since last 13 years and have never been able to find a single fault or a change in the taste over the course of years. One bakery you could trust with your eyes closed.
Great milk bread ...only thing they only deal in cash ... no UPI
POONA : Of Broon, Bread and more!
When the Iranis came to Pune from Iran there were only two options in the job market that they could take up that didn’t require educational qualifications. One was becoming an hotelier and the other was becoming a baker. When Salamat Ardeshir Irani came to India he started out as a waiter in Kohinoor Restaurant. In Iran he was a wealthy person who had to let go of his wealth and start from scratch in Pune or Poona as it was known then.
After a couple of years of slogging and saving up he became a partner at the same hotel. No one knows what changed his mind but he discontinued being an hotelier. In 1914 he became a baker and started Royal Bakery. Slogging it out, undeterred at having lost his fortune in Iran, he baked a flourishing one in Pune. Royal bakery on MG Road is his success story.
Old timers remember way back in the 60’s Abdul, an employee of Royal Bakery who would come daily on a bicycle with a steel box on the carrier to deliver fresh bread and broon for almost 40 years.
The entire process of making their bread takes about seven hours and their secret is a wooden vat. The bread dough is kept inside the vat so that it ferments, rendering a distinct taste to the bread because of all the enzymes in action in the dough. This vat is not available nowadays making their bread much sought after.
Among the bakery’s fast selling bread is the milk bread or Milko Vita. Its packaging reads that it is the bread that lasts for 100 hours and keeps you fit for 100 years. It has a trademark registered number of 1291. The Irani family believes that they were not only the first in the city but the first in the country to prepare milk bread that too in the year 1947. This bread is a must try for the Jain population.
Some of the other delicious specialties of this family run bakery include cheese papri, badami biscuit, shrews bury biscuit and ginger biscuit along with plain cakes. Simply relish the melt in the mouth satiation that you experience when you eat the products. It is best to avoid calorie counting. The bhatti or furnace is fired using wood and that too imparts a special aroma to their products.
Royal bakery believes in eating and making little but doing so almost every day. That perhaps explains why their products are freshly prepared. The Irani wit comes into play when we are told that if we want stale stuff, we need to pay double the amount so that they can keep some leftovers for us.
From the beginning, letting their products speak for themselves has been this bakery’s policy. Their walking, talking (and eating) word of mouth customers seem more than happy to spread the aroma of the bakery all over Pune and beyond. So while the Irani family continues to overcome the challenge of finding and employing workers that agree to work in the bakery and that too near the furnace, we continue to deliciously flock here for our daily bread, biscuits and cake.
Historic bakery. It's a landmark in this part of town. The quality of its products have never changed. And that's the beauty of of this place in these times of new strange recipes and experiments with food making earlier memories of tastes disappear. Royal bakery stands out as victor in the competition of breads
Small but Good old bakery ..famous for jeera biscuits & Ginger biscuits..prompt service too

Royal Bakery is love💓
Their plum cake, glass cake, milk bread, badami etc are superb
Over the years they have maintained the quality and taste..without any show shaa..
The only problem is that they are not very approachable and at times are very rude to customers and dont answer questions properly.. Also they do not accept cash and google pay..
But their products are worth the wait!!
Best Place for Brownie. The quantity of brownie is unimaginable at best price. Also try their glass cakes. Their owner and staff are very polite and professional.
