We went to the place for breakfast early in the morning.
Confused, we asked the staff for their recommendations and ordered Coorg Idli, Masala Dosa and Chili cheese garlic dosa.
We absolutely loved the food except the chili cheese garlic dosa. It is one of their recommended dishes but it didn't suit our taste buds. There was generous amount of cheese on it and had a sharp taste of garlic.
Other than that, everything else was perfect!
Recommended!
Visited this place on a Sunday afternoon. Great ambiance, super cool service and decent food were the key highlights of the visit.
Ordered Cheese Potato Medu Vada, Thuppa Dosa (Ghee roasted), Malabar curry with Appam (combo).
Medu Vada and Thuppa Dosa were amazing. The chutneys served were great and went well with both dishes.
Appam was slightly crispy and somehow not satisfying and slightly burnt in the middle.
I personally didn't like the Sambar, but that could be just my opinion. Was expecting a more tangy flavour considering this being an authentic South Indian restaurant. But again - in my personal opinion.
Would be definitely visiting again soon.

Taste: Ordered roasted onion garlic uttappa. It was perfectly cooked, onion and garlic was perfectly roasted and the batter was tasty as well. Sambar was delicious too. And the three chutneys were tasty. Special dakshin biryani was awsome. It had that impeccable authentic south indian taste.
Service: Personnel were very polite and they give you your space - they dont keep pestering you unnecessarily. Gave us time to choose our menu. Otherwise in some restaurants the captains are very nosy.
Ambience: brilliant. There was nice silence and the entire restaurant is AC.
They have many varieties of dishes. Will definitely visit again and try new dishes.
Always wondered about this place ! Today was the big day ! Went with my family for a dinner , the food was great the staff was friendly and guided to exactly what we would love eating ! Will definitely visit again to try many more dishes !
I have visited this place with my family few days before. Its just amazing place to have South Indian food. Very cool place to hang out. Ambience is very nice & unique. Very peaceful place. We have ordered Daal shorba (soup), Special Idli, On the leaf special Masala Dosa, onion uttapam. They served 3 types of chutney. After that W had their best Filter coffee. All the items were very very yummy. We just enjoyed the food a lot.
Bonus : They served amazing Paaan. I have never eat Paan in any Restaurant in Pune.

This was the best ever Onam Sadhya I have ever had. This restaurant offers this speciality in the occasion on ON AM. All the vegetables we're fresh and organically authentic in taste the flavors on all the items served was mesmarising.Worth it's taste & Price. Avial, Papadum, Idiyupum, Utappa, Sambar, banana & coconut chips, Kadlak, Porial, and all pickles & Chutneys... And the best of the rest 2 flavours of Payassum was best of all.
On The Leaf is a savoury saviour for us south indians.
South indian food isnt just about idlis and dosas, the Main course here is killer. Appam is to live for. Vegetarian food cannot get better than this....
Best dosa in Pune? Totally.
Loved the presentation, the ambiencr and the flavor.
A complete package of dosa, sambar and chutneys, served on banana leaf. The dosa is well stuffed and the grated cheese on top of it is the cherry on the cake.
The sambar was delicious and the chutneys, I couldn't decided which one to dip my dosa in.
Recommend this place strongly.
Well, I've to admit that this is one of the best south indian food place and their "Special idli" was soooo yumm. I never had this good idli before. We also tried their Pepper corn capsicum uttapam, Chettinad spicy masala dosa and masala tea. Everything was awesome. Loved their sambhar and chutneys too.
A must must visit if you're a Punekar.
This is the go to place when you are craving for south indian food. The savouries are all delectable. I would rate dosas higher than uttapam. Service is very good and personalized. Waiters and manager are ready to help you choose . A nice place overall.
On the leaf is a South Indian restaurant which serves authentic South Indian snacks and dishes, keeping the flavours intact. Apart from serving basic and well known dishes, they've also included snacks like Dakshin masala idli, coorg idli, mughlai idli etc. They even have a special on the leaf dosa which is a little more carefully cooked and had great flavours.
Coming to drinks, everyone loves a light butter milk on a hot afternoon and we got what we wanted! The buttermilk was delicious and tasted even better with all the snacks.
Rasam wada was served hot and fresh and had just the perfect crisp and flavours of rasam seeped in it, giving us major foodgasm. Cheese chilly garlic uttapam is not for the faint hearted ones. It had a layer of cheese and generous amount of chilli flakes, making it fiery yet tasty.
Randomly found this place on zomato and visited as it had nice ratings. And trust me we were not at all put down. Have a lot of options on the menu.
We ordered:
Nuppu Bonda - 3/5 - A combination of rice and cheese stuffed in fried balls. Was properly fried, not too oily and good in taste. Just the green chillies did take away the taste a bit
Potato Medu Wadai - 2/5 - Stuffed smashed potato in medu wada. Tastes the same like medu wada.
Vegetable Soft Uttappam - 5/5 - Uttappam with a lot of finely cut stuffed veggies and masala. Is a must recommended dish and tastes super yummy.
Masala Dosa - 4/5 - Definitely try this one too.
They do serve Pudina, Tomato and Coconut chutney which are very tasty too.
Staff and Service - 5/5 - Friendly, Polite and Helpful Staff. Very promt service
Ambience - 4/5 - Nice and Quite Ambience
If you are in camp area or not, this place is a definitely a must try. We look forward to trying more of their dishes.

The other day, out on various errands, led to Lunch at, On The Leaf, East Street ... A pure Veg place.
Started, with Jal Jeera soda...60/-. Good and refreshing.
Sri Lankan style, Potato stew with idlis... 200/-. It had sambhar and 3 different chutneys along with it and was light and flavourful.
Lemon rice ( could not finish all... And had to get a doggy pack... 😀 ), with Papad and sambhar... 140/-. Liked it.
Got complimentary sweet paan... 👌
Quite a VFM place. Would like to try, other stuff next time.
This place offers mainly delicious South Indian delicacies.
Came here on a Sunday during lunch time. It's a perfect place for a family. The ambience was pretty good.
The staff was courteous and they served us well. Even the service was quick for us.
We tried few of their dishes.
The Sambaar sadham
The is basically rice served with Sambaar. They also give you a papad and onion salad. Being a south Indian, this Sambaar did satisfy my cravings and if you love the authentic style Sambaar yeh this might come close to your expectations.
The special idli
The idlis were decent but I have definitely had softer ones. It was accompanied by ghee, white butter and podi. The best thing about this place is that they give 3 chutneys along with the idli dosa dishes which were really delicious and Sambaar was also served with this.
The plain thuppa dosa
If you have had ghee roast dosa in the south this dosa comes close to that dosa. We asked them to make it crispy and we totally loved this dosa. It came with sambar and the three chutneys. RECOMMENDED.
We ordered drinks lime soda and butter milk.
Lime soda being such a simple drink i generally never mention this but I would definitely recommend you to have their lime soda. I had told them to make It chilled and the lime soda had the perfect balance of flavour and it was so refreshing. The butter milk was also pretty decent.
Overall I would definitely recommend you to try this place if you crave for or want to try South Indian delicacies.
Amazing place .. Good Ambiance... Good serving time.. South Indian Food fan or a foodie or want to try some south Indian authentic food ..? This is the place in town ...Should definitely try this amazing place... they really serve you on the banana leaf . Please try RASSAM at first .. its the delicious.. if you really want to enjoy the south Indian spices. There are many more items worth trying however we tried molgai idli & andra style idli..
Its worth to visit ..
As you must have guessed from the name, On the Leaf specializes in serving South Indian food. I had ordered Veg Malabar Curry which is vegetables cooked in coconut milk(mind you, if the base is coconut milk, then the food has a creamy and sweet taste, so don't expect your curry to be spicy) and Appam. The curry tasted as expected and it had all perfectly cooked vegetables. As for the Appam, it was thin and crispy(slightly) and tasty. The food was well-prepared and appetizing. The waiters were and the staff were attentive and always filled our empty glasses. (benefit of going when there are less people) Also, they serve paan(complimentary), it was fine but like they say, something is better than nothing. The ambience was pleasant and so was the seating. All in all, it was worth going. Do give it a try.
Great place to try South Indian food almost everything here is tasty here must try !! The service is also good and the ambience is decent good overall.
This is one of the top restaurants in Pune for south indian that captures an amazing variety! The place has an instantly peaceful ambience and a lot of interesting twists. I specifically recommend The Sri Lankan Potato Idli Stew - very homely and especially for those sensitive taste buds, the Banana Cutlet - a plantain cutlet with a very unique coriander punch. I've tried several other things and they've each had a unique twist! Don't miss the delicately made paan they give you at the end. A very sweet thoughtful touch.
Literally Authentic taste of South. Malabar curry with Neer dosa and rava dosa was absolutely best, also try coconut water (the way they serve is lovely). If you love south indian then you must visit this place. Specious and pleasent place...
Was planning to go here for breakfast which ultimately turned out to be a brunch.. Credit goes to our late latiff attitude..😂
So, this place is located on East Street. though the ground floor ambience looks like a typical old cafe, upstairs it's very spacious. And ambience is good too..
Coming to the food, we had a variety of menu.. cheese chilli garlic uttappam was tasty.. Malabar curry with appam and need dosa was the dish of the day. It's a must try.. plus they serve sambar and 3 types of chutneys with every dish you order. And yeah, they actually serve the food 'on the leaf' 😀
Service is too slow and thats the only reason for 4 stars..
Otherwise it's worth a visit..
Such an one more amazing place in pune . Perfect veg restaurant. Specially best for the south indian food addictives .first time i tested such high rated south Indian dishes. Ambience and the staff was very nice. Must visit restaurant.
I came here every time to have chilli cheese garlic uttpam which is very tasty and out of the world. There sambar and chutnys are the best in the town.
On the Leaf, this restaurant is known for their South Indian meal. They serve almost every dish on the banana leaf, hence the name 'On the leaf'. The ambience is not so fancy but pretty and the staff is courteous. Seating arrangements is comfortable as well.
What we ordered-
1. Vegetable stew and Appam- This aromatic vegetable stew was made up of coconut milk, various veggies and minimal spices. Served along with appams which are fluffy at centre and crispy along the edges. This combination is delish one. #highlyrecommended
2. Palak Palkatty Dosa- Crispy dosa on the outside and paneer and palak were the fillings inside. Served along with chutneys it tastes amazing. #recommended
3. Kalan Biryani- It's a Mushroom biryani which is cooked in Kerala style with mild spice taste.
4. Pineapple Lime Cooler- It was a refreshing mocktail. Rich flavour of pineapple and lime made it pretty cool.
5. Akhrot Halwa- This was something new for me. Halwa made up of walnuts and was cooked in ghee. Sweetness was so evenly balanced. #highlyrecommended
Do pay your visit to try out their authentic south indian dishes.
Very few restaurants in Camp area serve authentic South Indian food, 'On The Leaf' is one of them!
The Paniyaram (Appe) were one of the best that I've had. Definitely a must try!
Neer dosa and filter coffee was quite decent.
On The Leaf , the name so aptly encompasses the food that is served here . Living in the western part of India, we have gone used to having South Indian food , dished out in a rather repetitive way in different restaurants .
But after eating here , it takes you to the taste of South , as it should be . It is heartwarming to note that they have kept to South food , though to please different tastes , they have a good range of options .
Their vadas served with different chutneys , sambhar which typically gives you the flavour of south , and the all together different dishes , makes you happy and content . Do visit On The Leaf , it's totally worth it .
Their only drawback is that they are situated a little out of the main food hub on Main Street and East Street .
Thanks goes to the owners and management for giving us truly wonderful food .
Ambience maybe a bit oldish but FOOD IS
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I had Malabar Curry, Coorg Idli, Walnut Halwa, Appam, Palak Paneer dosa, Rasam soup. All had great taste and reasonable price.
Visited this well laid out and neat joint on Sunday afternoon with family. Ordered for three varieties of Dosa namely On the leaf masala dosa, palak cheese masala dosa and ragi masala dosa. They were prepared nicely and tasty too. Staff was friendly. Good South Indian restaurant with a wide choice of South Indian cuisine. What more it is quite pocket friendly. Would visit again for authentic South indian taste. Keep it up.
You are mistake big time if you go by the modest outlook of this restaurant.....!!!
It will take you for big surprise in all corners of your taste zone
Our journey tonight was with following dishes
Starter :: raw banana cuttlet
Methi garlic uttapam
Chocolate dosa
Paneer cheetandd
And the finishing of meal by vegetable dal kecheedi with rassam.
Finally with a paan to mark a superb delight
Camp are is known for its antic shops , but on the the leaf had a Modern look. At first I was very reluctant to go as there was no one in the restaurant at 11 AM but somehow the foodie heart told me to go upstairs. And hot is never wrong. I ordered an onion mendu Vada and a crispy garlic cheese dosa. It had that southern flavour with a modern twist. We were served with three chutneys tometo chutney coconut chutney N dhanya patti chutney. All three were bombs of flavour in your mouth. In the end they serve you with Paan. Giving your meal a happyending. The staff was really very polite which gives you a sence of fine dinein.

Had a short meal at this amazing South Indian restaurant in camp area. I loved their paneer chatpata Dosa which was very tasty! The corn capsicum idli was also really good! I enjoyed the sambar and the chutney with those idlis. Lastly The hot sewai payasam was a delight to end a nice meal. The place has a huge seating area on the first floor with nice decorations and a very polite staff.
Proper South Indian food = On the leaf
Well I had
Cut dosa which was a complete miracle I was in love with it
They cooked idli in their own unique way
And yes the 3 mouthwatering chutney
Must visit for South Indian food 😘
Visited on the leaf yesterday for a quick breakfast . Started off with the chef's recommendations -
Mulugutwanai soup- The soup was an amazing combination of dal, coconut , veggies and alot more healthy stuff . Rate -4/5
Not really a fan of idlis but since the place is famous for their 17+ different types of idlis had to try that too so tried the Coorg idli and vaghrela idli poriyal and damn I fell in love with idlis first time ♥. The idlis were so soft and had the perfect taste tossed in with different masalas .
Rate -4.8/5
Then tried the pav bhaji cheese Uttappam which was plain uttappam layered with pav bhaji and truck loads of cheese . This one's definitely for all the pav bhaji lovers.
Rate 5/5
Although I was completely full by this time but the aroma of veg Malabar curry made me order it and it was completely worth it .
Ended the super filling breakfast or brunch as you can call it😛 with acrot halwa and puneri Mastani.
PS- they have the most amazing and friendly staff and management .
The best part was they serve the food on leaf which was too unique and appealing.

While shopping had a chance encounter with fellow foodie Supriya Chaubal. Fhir Kya hona tha, we decided to try out "On The Leaf" situated at East Street having heard quite a lot about it. This has taken the place of 4 Seasons, next to Sujata Mastani at the beginning of East Street.
The restaurant is in 2 levels. The interiors are sober and comfortable at the same time(sorry, forgot to take pics). The cuisine is an eclectic mix of traditional and fusion South Indian including Jain preparations.
Here one is spoiled by the variety of dishes. So much so, we had to take help from the manager to decide on Kya khaana hai of course!!!!!
Things we tried:
Dakshin Masala Idli - The idli's were cooked in coconut gravy. Rich, creamy, mildly spiced, this was the star dish. (#mustmusttry)
Mysore Masala Dosa- We asked for the potato filling separately. The potato filling was "super se bhi uperrrr". The finely chopped carrots n beans enhanced the taste. This Alongwith the crispy dosa splattered with red chilli-garlic powder was pure indulgence. I forgot the sambhar totally.(#dotry)
Nuppu Bonda - The South Indian Arancini - cooked rice mixed with cheese, coconut slivers, peanuts, south Indian tadka, rolled in rice flour n deep fried. Crunchy from the outside, this fell short on taste. (#cantry)
Filter Coffee - It was ok, could have been more strong.
The Pan(stuffed with sugarcoated saunf) was a pleasant accompaniment to the bill. Overall a fine experience.
The best part-this restaurant not only opens at 7:00 am(finally a breakfast place) but also offers 21% discount between 7am to 11:30am. So now you can not only have an amazing breakfast but after that you can shop to your heart's content at MG Road!!!
Went here on 5th Jan for lunch and the first meal of 2019 couldn't have been better.
Delicious food with a good blend of authentic and modern South Indian cuisine. The food taste is mild as the dishes here are made in Jain style preparation. This place serves authentic south indian dishes and i would love to say they are too good at it. I am not a big fan of south indian food but i loved the food served by them.
We tried:-
1. Nuppu Bonda
2. Srilankan Style Potato Stew Idli
3. Choco Walnut Dosa
4. Spicy Chilli Potato Dosa
5. Pepper Corn Capsicum Uttapam
6. Soya Kheema With Malabar Paratha & Cheese Appam
7. Almond Ice-Cream
8. Akrod Halwa
9. Filter Kafi

Overall must give it a try.
Not a new place but a great option for South Indian delicacies in camp area. Situated above Sujata mastani, the places serves authentic delicacy with needed adjustment to suite puneri palate. Being a south Indian place they also serve North Indian along and the desserts here are next level.
Here is what i tried...
• APPETISERS
1) Nuppu bonda
Many are used to having hot fried poppers for starters these days, well here’s a South Indian delicacy. Tasty rice and coconut balls fried with groundnuts and little cheesy. An amazing option to try here, tastes somewhat similar to appe and goes well with their in house chutneys. #musttry
• MAIN COURSE
1) Srilankan Curry with Stew Idli
One of the best dish to try here. Soft rice Idli’s dipped in creamy besan flour curry (tastes similar to khandavi) ready to amaze your taste buds. #highlyrecommended
2) Spicy chilli potato dosa
Tangy and crispy dosa stuffed with potato and schezwan chutney. It is served with a cup of sambhar.
3) Ragi dosa
Simple, crispy and amazing. A perfect dosa, again served along their inhouse made Sambhar. It had small onion pieces in between which turned the taste around. Absolutely loved it, #musttry
4) Pepper corn Capsicum uttapam
Soft and thick uttapam with Capsicum and corn. The taste was good but the Capsicum overpowered the taste. Fewer slices of Capsicum would make a great dish 😋.
5) Chocolate walnut dosa
If you love chocolate this is something you shouldn’t miss. This surprisingly turned out to be amazing. The batter is mixed with chocolate syrup and crushed walnut which adds a brownie taste to it. A good option to try amongst 3-4 people. #musttry
6) Soya Kheema
Finely diced soya along with green peas. Two words- soft and super juicy. The kheema tasted amazing with cheese appam and malabar paratha. Very different from what one is used to but another great option to try. #musttry
•DESSERTS
1) Roasted almond Icecream
One of their most seller and an amazing Icecream that you might have never tried before. Similar to cassata but more creamier and tastier. It has some crunchy roasted almonds in between and crushed biscuit border that would drool you even by its look. #highlyrecommended
2) Akrot halwa
Walnut desserts are always to die for and when it comes to Indian desserts Halwa pairs perfect with everything. A sweet, juicy and perfect dessert to finish your meal with.
Overall, A place you cannot miss if you crave South Indian food but are looking for some unique dishes. Lots of varieties and good ambiance. Two floor seating and an ideal place for parties.
Well, if you know there are some good south indian options in camp area. But if you want to try something different, something new then 'On The Leaf' is your place.
Situated on the busy East Street, you can find the place pretty easily.
They have a 2 floored seating arrangement. But comparatively upper floor is pretty good in terms of quietness, coziness.
Now coming to the food, we tried:
1. NUPPU BONDA (Rs. 100) : Simply we can say this as south indian take on Italian arancini. Cooked rice was mixed along potatoes, onions, peanuts, chillies and stuffed with cheese. It was nicely fried so as to give a crisp outer covering.
2. SRILANKAN STYLE POTATO STEW IDLI(Rs.200) : This was really good. A bit tangy, not spicy, thick gravy had pieces of idlis and potatoes. The gravy had a very subtle taste but in good terms.
3. PEPPER CORN CAPSICUM UTTAPPAM (Rs.120) : A slightly thick uttappam with toppings of corn and sliced capsicum. It was not that great but neither it was bad.
4. RAGI DOSA (Rs.130) : The texture of this dosa was nice. It had lots of onions and chillies in it. The dosa was nice, thin and crisp. Overall it was good.
5. SPICY CHILLI POTATO DOSA (Rs.100) : This was kinda chinese dosa. Potato sabji with schezwan sauce was stuffed in the dosa and was cut into pieces. It was not really spicy though.
6. CHOCO WALNUT DOSA (Rs.180) : I tried a chocolate dosa for the very first time and I totally loved this. The dosa was crispy with generous amount of chocolate and crushed walnuts in it. The flavour of walnut was complementing the chocolate well.
7. SOYA KHEEMA & MALABAR PARATHA (Rs.190 & Rs.40) : I'm not a big fan of this dish but this one wasn't bad. Minced soya with green peas, some capsicum and onions had a medium spicy taste. The parotta had many layers with a flaky texture.
8. DESSERTS : We tried two of them and believe me, both were awesome.
⏺️ AKHROT HALWA (Rs.180) : Akhrot aka walnuts were ground and then nicely cooked in lots of ghee. The sugar level was perfect. Also it had ample amount of nuts with a nice texture.
⏺️ ALMOND ICECREAM : Again, this was a different icecream and was really good. It was creamy, sweetness was on point with roasted almonds in it.
Overall, it's a good place to have south indian delicacies which are mid-priced.
#iwasinvited
The name is very catchy to grab someone's attention, it is located just above sujata mastani in camp and can be easily located via Google maps
They serve authentic south indian food with spices that are prepared in-house and a unique feature includes their preparation done in Jain kitchen
I tried all below dishes :
Nuppu bonda - potato, cheese and rice balls provided with chutney and sambhar and fried so well that the oil couldn't be felt, I can say that this is a good south indian starter
Special idli - this was also something different, two beautiful idlis served with ghee and gunpowder, white butter and sambhar, it cannot get any better
#recommended
Srilankan style potato stew idli - this was something I tried for the first time, yummy vegetable stew made with coconut milk and idli dipped into it made such a good combination, if you are someone who loves south indian food then trust me this is worth trying
#highlyrecommended
Choco Walnut dosa - dosa is first love and chocolate is much more above that, how about walnut and chocolates induced dosa, heavenly right? Yes it is and worth trying! Every bite of dosa had walnut taste and sweetness of dosa was just perfect
#highlyrecommended
Spicy chilli potato dosa - this was a Chinese version of dosa, Chilli potato mixture prepared in schezwan sauce and a little cheese over it had an amazing taste
Kalgiri dosa - this is one of bestest dosas that one can have here, masala was spiced well in the dosa and prepared in lot of butter, truly a delight for butter lovers
Pepper corn capsicum uttapam - Corn and capsicum are my favourite toppings when it comes to customizing anything, tried this one, the chef went completely honest with the stuffing and the taste was just awesome
Soya kheema with malabar paratha and cheese appam - now this is something that every spicy food and keema lover needs to hop on, keema was not that oily and appam and paratha made a good combo
Almond ice cream - Now this is a major twist in ice creams, roasted almonds made into a delicious ice cream and another twist is the almond powder coating done on every layer of ice cream
#highlyrecommended
Akrod halwa - I just can't describe how tasty this halwa was! Akrot were not just blended but left a lil bit crunchy, halwa made in pure Desi ghee, topped with dry fruits and more ghee, sugar was just as perfect as it could get!
#highlyrecommended
Filter kafi - served in authentic filter kafi bartan, this too was best and another good part was that i forget to add sugar cubes and it did not Taste bitter at all, it was so pure

I love South Indian food and if I see any authentic South Indian restaurant I'm always up to visit it even if it's Pure vegetarian. I recently came across this Pure vegetarian Restaurant called On the leaf which was making a hype between food about their Food. They serve South Indian as well as North Indian food which is something close to authentic and will make you come again and again.
I was super excited to visit the same and let's get into my experience which I had here
On the leaf specializes in Jain South Indian food which is on the milder side when its compared to the Maharashtrian food. I personally prefer Maharashtrian food as I love the spices and strong flavor but On the leaf is perfect on their part and serves some great South Indian affair.
The restaurant is situated on a busy street of East street, camp. So you must be knowing it won't be a big spacious one. They can easily accommodate 100 + people at a time and they do have a party hall for separate private functions.
Complimentary Chutneys - They give you 3 different types of chutneys complementary, one normal mint chutney, one red, and one white coconut based chutney. Both the red and white chutney have dominant coconut flavor whereas green one was perfectly balanced.
Sambar - The sambar you get here has a minimal tangy flavor and it has a dominant flavor of spices used in it. The masalas they use for every single thing is in-house so it's altogether different than any other South Indian restaurant and you'll know it at the first sip only.
Ragi Dosa - I personally love ragi dosa because it's healthy and tastes even better. The ragi dosa you get here is a bit different, it's crispy at the edges and soft smooth at the bottom with small chunks of onions in the batter which makes it juicy, sweet. The overall taste of ragi dosa was good and I loved the difference in taste.
Nuppu Bonda - A similar preparation to Appe or rice balls which are more on the fluffier side and has a crisp, thick outer texture. The fluffy balls were stuffed with nicely minced rice with small chunks of groundnut and crushed cheese. It had that nutty yet creamy flavor which went well with the chutneys.
Srilankan Style Potato Stew Idli - One of the best things to have here. The stew had a perfect medium thick texture with a nice flavor of curry leaves in it. The stew had a nice tangy hint with a balanced taste of ground spices. The idlis were kept in the stew to soak all the flavor and trust me the combination was really good.
Choco walnut dosa - If you're chocolate lover then you should definitely try it. The simple crisp soft dosa which made in the chocolate walnut batter. The dosa had a balanced flavor of chocolate and walnut. It's a bit heavier for a single person as the flavor overwhelms your palate but can be ordered if you're having this in a group.
Pepper Corn Capsicum Uttapam - A bit thicker uttapam than our regular one which had huge chunks of capsicum which ended up overpowering the taste. The flavor wasn't balanced and I didn't taste the pepper at all. Fewer smaller pieces of capsicum with more pepper could've balanced the flavor as the juicy corn and capsicum wasn't enough to give a nice taste.
Soya Kheema with Cheese Appam - A semi bhurji type dish where medium minced soya was clubbed with green peas. The texture of kheema was super juicy and creamy and it went well with the cheese appam. You can definitely try it as it's something different.
Almond Ice Cream - This is something I will personally recommend everyone to try. This Ice cream is something unique with thick texture at the edges, similar to cassata. The ice cream you get here is outsourced but it's worth trying.
Overall Verdict - On the leaf is something you would love to try for the different dishes they serve. It's on the milder side but worth a try.
Enjoyed the thupa masala dosa. Had requested for a crispy one and it was superb! Haven't had such nice masala dosa at a hotel in a long time! The masala was actually nice, not just some random potato paste. The masala was really good , flavorful made with grated coconut!!
The thali was good as well. The dal and methi bhaji in the thali were really yum!
They have many varieties of medu wada. We tried the onion medu wada which was good. Around 6 small wada's in a plate.
The sweet lime soda was average.
One place where they could improve a little is on the glasses and plates, they could be a little cleaner.
Totally recommend the place!
Delicious food, the South Indian was authentic and taste was absolutely great. The Sambhar Sandam, Cabbage poriyal and Rasam wada is a must try. Try the special thali if you have the appetite. Must try place for South Indian if you are in Pune and craving for some extremely good South Indian food. Service is also great, wait time was less than 10 minutes to get the food post ordering and the staff were extremely courtious. The owner personally came and checked in on us which was a special gesture.

Now they have opened their first branch in Pune. There is a small seating downstairs and a huge seating setup upstairs with beautiful and classy setup.
Coming to the food, we tried,
1)Water melon Juice: A basic watermelon juice which was refreshing and a great start to the meal.

2)PEPPER CORN CAPSICUM UTTAPPAM:This was uttappam stuffed with corn and pepper, but there was a imbalance between the flavours of corn and pepper, the uttappam became over sweet due to the excess of corn flavour.

If you are looking for some yummy South Indian food in camp, this is the place to go! I absolutely fell in love with the rasam here. It's one of the most delicious ones I've had. They have some good variety in dosas as well. I tried the paneer chatpata Dosa. The quantity is good and very filling because of the stuffing. The corn capsicum idli was a new combination and I enjoyed it. The payasam was super delicious and was perfectly warm for the weather!
On the leaf is a place where you can get every dish on the leaf literally. All the south indian dishes are served perfectly over here.
The staff is quite prompt and courteous as well.
Talking over food-
Nuppu bonda-A very well replaceable to potato balls, rice and cheese mixture fried golden tasted really awesome.Crispier from outside and cheesier from inside.
Srilankan style potato stew idli-The subtle taste of this stew idli and sauce makes you dip the idli in sambar and combine it together for a very amazing taste.
Pepper corn capsicum uttappam-I personally though it should have been more spicy as the pepper is mentioned.Quantity wise was superb.
Spicy chilli potato dosa-Spicy chilli mixture with potato tasted well on dosa.
On the leaf spl lassi-This lassi was damn tempting.Banana lassi with honey and dryfruits which makes an apt combo all together😍
Coconut punch -Highly Recommended drink. The coconut flavour literally makes the punch and outbursts my palate. #Recommended
Soya kheema with malabar parota-Soya kheema was as amazing as the chicken kheema tastes. One must definitely try this here accompanied with malabar parota. #Recommended
Akhrot halwa- I seriously did not have a halwa like this.Sweetness level up to the mark as well as the flavour of akhrot with khawa.Amazing!

Excellent preparations, tasty foods served with a smile. Great variety of dosas. Some of the best we have eaten pan India. Pleased to recommend
Located on East Street, one of the busiest streets of Pune, is this newly opened South Indian Restaurant and it's not your usual south Indian restaurant restricted to only dosas, uttapas and idlis. I was especially impressed with the variety of idlis. Tried Podi Idli, Coorg Idli and Mulgai Idli. A refreshing change compared to the usual plain idlis we always eat. After trying these idlis, you would not want to go back to the normal ones. Every item, be it dosas, uttapas have an amazing and unusual variety. They even keep south Indian main course and rice items.
Ambience is pretty decent and basic. The whole set up is quite spacious. A must try for people wanting to explore authentic south Indian food that goes beyond idli sambar and masala dosa.
INTRODUCTION
This place is located in the central area of Pune that is the Camp Area on the East Street. This is pure veg restaurant serving authentic South Indian food. The name ON THE LEAF is given as they serve all the menu on a banana leaf. Banana leaf is on which mostly the south Indian people eat their meal.
AMBIENCE
This place is not a fancy place. This is a proper family restaurant where their food speaks and does the work. The place is divided into two floors. The upper deck had a party hall and is air conditioned.
BEVERAGES
Coconut Punch
This drink will remind you on the coconut chocolate you used to have in your childhood that was the bounty chocolate. This was made with fresh coconut milk sweeten a bit and very fine desiccated coconut. This was totally refreshing drink must try drink.
Pineapple Cooler
One of the best coolers I had in long time. This was made from fresh pineapple juice along with the hint of lime and mint taste to it. The sweet and sour taste of the pineapple was greatly complimented by the mint.
On The Leaf Special Lassi
This was there special lassi which was having bananas in it. This was sweetened with honey rather than sugar. They had added some dry fruits to it. I felt the consistency was bit thin as compared to the lassi, may be this was because they had to mix dry fruits too with the lassi.
FOOD
Wada Rasam
Hands down to the authentic taste of the Rasam. And kudos to the wada they made. The wada was soft as cotton. Perfectly soaked in the rasam. The rasam was made from tomato and curry leave. The flavours of these both was balanced perfectly and with the wadas this was the prefect start for my meal.
Nuppu Bonda
This was better than the cheese poppers we always have. This was made from cooked rice cover with rice batter from outside. They had mashed cooked rice along with some cheese and fine chopped onions. Deep fried to make is crisp to perfection and served with their amazing chutneys. The cheese flavour complimented the rice very well. This is some thing you must try
Srilankan Style Potato Stew Idli
This stew was made with dal along with some onions and a hint of curry leaves as its base and then potatoes were added to it. Nice fluffy Idlis was topped with this stew and served along with some sambhar. The stew was very mild on the spice the dal and the starchy potato flavour was dominate here. This idli went well with the sambhar they served. The sambar added that bit spice to idli.
Pepper Corn Caps Uttappam
A uttapa made with some corn and bell peppers i.e. Capsicum. The batter of normal uttapa was mixed with corn pieces and chopped bell peppers. The batter was made yellow using some turmeric. Uttapa was soft and fluffy. But the corn sweetness was over powering this can be easily solved by adding some chillies to the uttapa. People with sweet taste buds will like this uttapa more
Spicy chilli Potato Dosa
This was a cut dosa with some red spicy chilli potato filling to it. The dosa was crisp. The filling was just perfect on spice, not too spicy not to mild. The amount of filling was more than most of the places I have ate dosa at.
Soya Kheema
Kheema made from soya beans. You can’t guess that this dish is made from soya bean until you know it. They had used soya chunks and grounded in to course mince. This was cooked along with a masala having lots of coconut and bold curry leaves flavour to it. This mince of soya bean was added to the masala along with some peas. It was perfect on spice and flavour of the masala just blasted in the mouth.
On the Leaf Thali
One of the humongous thalis which I had after a long time. The thali had curd, dahi wada, potato stew, 2 types of sabji which they change every day, rasam wada, some banana chips, rice papad and to end it 2 appams. Everything in this thali was just amazing. Specially the appams they were perfect soft and fluffy.
DESSERTS
Walnut Halwa
Halwa made with grounding the walnuts. They had served this piping hot so the experience of eating it elevated more. This was perfect on sweetness. The only thing was that there was a slight bitter taste in some bites, this may be because of the cover of walnuts which has that hint of bitter taste to it.
Almond Icecream
This was something you’ll not expect to be soo good rather it was one of the best almond icecream I had. The icecream was smooth as butter and was having course chopped almonds into it. They had covered the slice of the icecream with almond powder which added another dimension to the icecream.
VERDICT
This place is typical Indian family restaurant. No fancy ambience but the food is definitely fancy and yummy. If you love south Indian food then this is the place to have some authentic south Indian food. Do try the icecream and the thali. The portion size is amazing for the price we pay. Its totally value for money. They run many discounts offers along the day.

There are few places which are still holding the roots and culture of different states. Talking about one, there is this place called ‘On The Leaf’ which is still keeping the food culture from Southern part of our country and serving some authentic South Indian cuisines with warm hospitality. And this place is located at very famous ‘Camp’ area, East Street Road. So the very first impression I had about this place earlier that they must be serving Idli, Dosa, Sambhar and Uttappam as these are the famous dishes when you talk about South Indian food. But there is more to it apart from these dishes and you can see it in their menu.
This place is quite spacious and has got 2 floors. Ground floor is generally for breakfast. They opens at 7.00 in the morning so if you are craving for some good South Indian breakfast, you know where to head now.
The upper floor is more for lunch and dinner. The interiors are quite decent and sober. Their service is on point. They even have separate party hall to accommodate big groups or corporates. And they serve food in a simple manner, on the leaf. Guess that’s how this place has got its name. Because they serve everything on leaf.
Talking about their food part, they serve distinctive variety of South Indian food from different parts of India like Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka. Their menu is quite vast and offer many things. All you need to choose something that suits your palate. I have tried few things here and everything turned out to be perfect for me.
Let’s have a looks at dishes I have tried here-
01. JEERA MILAGU RASAM: This was a bliss in winters. A perfect way to start your meal. This is also known as Pepper Cumin Rasam. So this rasam has more of a peppery flavour along with the entire savoury taste which was later garnished with finely chopped coriander leaves. It was served hot and tasted really good. I also loved the tadka of cumin seed aka jeera in this. The consistency was perfect.
02. DAKSHIN MASALA IDLI: Tried these kind of idlis for the very first time and did I like it? I loved it.
So the term masala refers to the coating of idli as idlis were covered in masala which was made from grated coconut and I could really taste that coconuty mild taste in idlis. The masala looked yellowish in color. Went really good with chutney.
03. CHEESE CHILLI GARLIC UTTAPPAM: That was deconstructed version of classic uttappam or you can say fusion. So, the classic uttappam had a layer of cheese and chilli garlic flakes and it was later garnished with coriander leaves. That uttappam was really cheesy and fiery due to chilli garlic. I liked this combination.
04. ON THE LEAF SPECIAL MASALA DOSA: This dosa had essence of Desi ghee and the masala inside it was made from potato and few other veggies. It was later garnished with cheese.
They served it on Banana Leaf.
I simply loved this dosa or one of the tastiest dosa I had so far. Still can’t get over it.
05. TOMATO SADHAM: This is a very famous dish from Tamilnadu. I always tried to find the authentic one in town but not most of the places serve this. And when finally I got it here, I couldn’t be more happier. This was mildly spicy rice with a taste of tangy tomatoes. So it looked slightly red in color. Loved the taste. It was cooked to perfection.
06. SEMIYA PAYSAM: One of my favourite dessert and this dessert is an important part of every South Indian meal. This shouldn’t be missed while trying out South Indian food. It is a rich kheer made from vermicelli, enriched with dry fruits. The sweetness level was perfect and it tasted heavenly. Nothing could beat this authentic dessert.
One more thing to mention is their Sambhar. The sambhar they served with idli and dosa was delicious. It wasn’t sweet like you get at most of the places. It had that tangy and savoury taste which added more flavours to the entire meal.
And yes, they serve almost everything on banana leaf.

Visited this restaurant on Friday night. I loved their cozy ambiance with very nice fragrance all around and a slow soft music was playing in the background giving you perfect feeling of what a South Indian restaurant is supposed to.The staff was courteous and service was quick.
Coming to the food we had-
1. Corn Capsicum Idly - It had corn capsicums and perfectly cooked with spices. Idlis were stir fried with the mixture giving you perfect flavours. It was veey different flavour and was good.
2. Srilankan Style Potato Stew Idly - As the name suggests it had the stew along with potatoes and very soft idlis. It was ok in taste.
3. Kanak Niri Dosa - I would personally recommend this dosa it was just perfect in taste and was very crispy as well. It had cabbage and cucumber filling which was treat to the taste buds. 100% recommended.
4. Paneer Chatpata Dosa - It was ok in taste. Not as good as kanak niri dosa.
5. Rasam - I really liked their rasam. I generally don't like the taste of it but to my surprise it was amazingly tasty this time.
6. Malabar Curry and Appam - It was very good in taste and I tried it for the first time. I really liked the taste.
It was prepared in coconut oil with lots of vegetables.
7. Chettinad Veg Biryani - It was just perfect very spicy and tasty. I loved it. It was served with mix vegetables raita and apalam.
8. Semiya Payasam and Sabudana Payasam - Both of them were very nice. I liked semiya payasam more than sabudana one. It had lots of cashews and nuts.
Place: On The Leaf
Location: East Street, Camp, next to Corporation Bank.
OTL is a new place in Camp, specialising in purely vegetarian South Indian cuisine. They also serve a few non South items. Jain preparation for the same are also available.
The stuffs we tried were:
Jeera milagu rassam - it was a pepper cumin rassam served as a soup before food. It had crunchy fried garlic bits in it. The garlic altogether with cumin and pepper made it the perfect soup for winter. It has the capability of soothing cold and sore throat.
Idli Chilli Andhra Style - Honestly, I had never had it in Andhra but it was unexpectedly good. The ildis were dowsed in spicy and creamy tomato gravy served with 3 chutneys. I was literally crying due to my terrible spice tolerance but you can adjust the spice level according to your palate.
Cucumber coriander dosa - the name says it all. It was crunchy, spicy, not a star but nice.
Next came my saviour Coconut Punch - yes they saw how ridiculous I was to the spice and served this sweetness. It was a mocktail inducing coconut and ice-cream and more coconut and is meant to be an absolute love for coconut lovers.
Podi Onion Uttappam - Authentic Uttappam with crunchy Podi masala on it. I had the Uttappam and coconut punch like cookies and milk. The combination did not disappoint me at all.
Appam with veg malabar curry - I never thought a small bowl of curry could be so rich. The curry was a bit sweet, loaded with coconut milk (the small bowl that was served to us was claimed to contain two coconut's milk) but balanced in taste. The curry was heavy itself and was served with paper thin Appam.
Bissi Bele Bath - Karnataka style Khichdi. It had the same taste as I had in a homestay there.
Akhrot Halwa - Another rich bowl made in pure ghee and love. I can't describe how balanced and perfect the taste was. We were absolutely full, but couldn't waste it.
Verdict - despite of being an eight months old, it has the full capacity to blow out the old South Indian places in Pune by it's authenticity, quality, quantity and last but not the least - Taste. I hope it doesn't lose it's authentic regional taste in the long run and is able to maintain the same quality.
The portion they serve on normal menu is more than enough and has a good value for money.
They serve three types of coconut chutneys (Red, Green and White).
The place is very big and has a place to organise a party of 50 people separately.
Excellent ambience and tasty and yummy food..Staff and service was just out of the world.Food quality too was excellent. Recommend this place to all foodies as they have an array of authentic dishes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
This place is a gem for someone who loves south indian food, located in camp this serves amazing food at pocket friendly prices. We started with rasam which was perfect with flavours of burnt garlic, coconut and tanginess from the tamarind with a kick of black pepper. Next were some drinks like watermelon cooler, pineapple cooler but the best one which is a must try here is the coconut punch which slightly sweet but will accompany the food well. In idli we tried the mulgi idli which is idli cooked in a green gravy which was one of the finest prepartions I've had in idli. The next was chettinad idli cooked in an amalgamation of tomato based gravy which was tangy on the side.
We also had the podi appam which is small rava idli cooked in ghee and podi. They are bit dry due to rava but the podi is yummy. For the maincourse we had avail and malabar curry. The avial was perfect with coconut gravy whereas I found the malabar gravy to be a bit sweet on the side. We ate them with appam which were soft and yummy. After that we tried the chettinad biryani and the biryani which were both perfectly cooked served with papad and raita.
For the desserts we had their speciality akrot halwa which is walnuts cooked in pure ghee to perfection. You should definitely try this one out if you're a sweet lover. The owner is very sweet and takes care of all your needs also explains everything in detail. If you want to have authentic south indian food then this restaurant is the best place you can visit.
Well i had to rate on the leaf a 4 star because this restaurant deserve it
The hospitality of staff was impressive
Raagi dosa was superbly crispy
Podi idli is a must try
All the dosas and uttapam you see on the menu will not disappoint you
But star of the show was walnut halwa
Not very sweet healthy and a must try option
I was invited for a tasting to this restaurant and had a great time. The owner is so polite and sweet and very accommodating. Their service was excellent and they have a number of waiters to serve. They have an open air section down which is small and on the 1st floor they have a huge air conditioned seating area. They even have a party hall where events can be held for 50 people approx.
We ordered for a lot of items and thoroughly enjoyed mostly all of them. In the South Indian Snacks we ate Rasam Vada which was yum and the Nuppu Bonda which was average. In Idli we ordered for the Idli Chili Andhra Style which was so different and delicious. In Dosa we ate Thakkali Dosa which was nice and the Choco Walnut Dosa that i enjoyed the most. We also ordered for Dahi Wada which wasn't nice and Veg. Malabar Curry with Neer Dosa and Appam as accompaniments and loved the dish.
For Beverages we drank Sweet Lassi, On the leaf Special Lassi and Coconut Punch out of which i liked the coconut punch the best. This place serves really good authentic South Indian and it is worth a visit.
this place for veg food is no less than heaven for foodies..the flavours can be felt in every bite.. I'm In love with this delicacy

Great food!! This place offers a variety of South Indian dishes. The Mulgai idli and Coorg idli are fantastic. The prices are very reasonable and service is prompt
Very nice place for South Indian food. Huge variety and great taste. Very rare place where one can get Jain style South Indian food.
Wish to visit very often.
We had organised a birthday party this week in this hotel... N I must say the team On The Leaf is very friendly , Co-operative n helping..Food tasted super awesome ...Overall experience can b scored 5 on 5. ..Highly recommend for south indian food lovers... My family loved the place n food...
I always visit Supriya and Priya in camp for south Indian breakfast so thought of going to this new place in camp which has authentic south Indian food and preparation. The taste of the food is really nice. I had the Mulgai Idli, Coorg Idli, Chettinad Idli and on the leaf special dosa. If you like spicy food then you should really try the Coorg idli, tossed in a tomato based masala. The dosa was crispy and tasty. The coconut punch is a nice cooler if you like pure coconut based mocktails.
One of the best places to have authentic South Indian food.
The place might seem not so spacious but thats a myth. Their upstair seating is huge and they have a party hall too!
So what ever we tried at this place were simply delicious and delectable.
Must haves at On the leaf
Jeera Milagu Rassam: One of the best soups I’ve had till date. Basically a tomato shorba with pieces of burnt garlic, the soup had amazing flavours and was just blissful to have
Their Special thali: Worth trying out the thali! When ever i try a thali I usually end up not liking one or two of the items but surprisingly I enjoyed having all of the items and its very much filling for a person and get himself sorted.
Corn and capsicum Idli: Something unique i tried it for the first time. Idli tossed in corn n capsicum gravy, the taste was super good! Highly recommend ed
In all i would highly recommend you to try out this place i am sure you will not be disappointed
Went for dinner with some friends.
for starters-
Onion medu vada- nice and crispy
Idli chilli andhra style- cut pieces of idli coated in a spicy gravy, this was the highlight of dinner
Mains-
Chetinad masala dosa- this was not so spicy, just like regular masala dosa
Paneer chatpata dosa- scrumptious and tasty filling
Curd rice- you can give it a skip
Tamarind rice- another on spot dish.
Apam and neer dosa- nice and soft
Chetinad curry- spicy and went well with appam
Desserts
Pineapple sheera- too tangy for my taste
Today visited this place with my father for lunch order is South Indian Thali and dahiwada food is good service cleanness is good ambience is also nice a good place to visit with family. Will try some other item next time
#57. It was Sunday afternoon and me and my family had decided to visit this place a week ago. I came to know quite late thay this is a south Indian restaurant. And there was quite a level of excitement.
First we ordered jeera milagu rassam and it was fantastic and absolutely energising with the heat that it packed.
In snacks we ordered Palak medu wada it was crispy from outside and soft from inside. Also they served Tri colour chutney kindly check the photo.
In the mains course mom and I went for south Indian thali with Malabar parotha and neer dosa respectively and my dad had decided to settle down for plain dosa but the restaurant staff encouraged to go for other one as there is huge variety, and he eventually went for for chettinad dosa. All the dishes were best. We also had south Indian filter coffee in the end.
Overall this place is really a pocket friendly restaurant which serves authentic south Indian food with good quality and quantity.
By the way this restaurant has valet parking service available.
Overall:
Quality: 4/5
Quantity: 4/5
Well this was actually an invite from the restaurant and the pleasure was mine to witness such an authentic cuisine .. this restaurant is located on the east street , next to sujata mastani , opened on May 11, and the good news is yes they have a parking space! One might get confused after looking at the restaurant but trust me they have a spacious seating area with a ground and first floor to occupy..
The interiors are semi royale but very pleasant.. what I felt when I walked into the restaurant is cleanliness which itself is an attractive trait.. they serve pretty much everything on a banana leaf hence the name..
Now let's jump into the food.. we were firstly served with a detox juice which was of beetroot, ginger lemon, and a bit more ingredients, a healthy option but you can also try coconut water instead! Next we come into the actual starters:
1) rasam vada - which had 2 pillowy vadas with chunks of coconut swimming in a pool of rasam and unlike sambhar rasam is a bit watery yet having that tadka of garlic and an intense concoction of flavours .. definitely a palate cleanser . The next was,
2) chettinad idli - pieces of idli were doused with chettinad chutney, rather it was like a mix veg chutney , bit spicy but perfectly paired with idli as it'll nullify that extra spiciness..
3)Pudi onion uttapam - guys you need to try this!! I mean can there be possibly anything as soft, cottony as this uttapam?!🤔 It's an onion uttapam but to revamp it Pudi accompanied it on the top..goes perfectly well with their green chutney..
Any guesses what could come after uttapam? Yeah it certainly was a dosa but not just any..it was
4) Chef special mushroom sukka dosa - this cut dosa had a stuffing of mushroom, paneer and some more secret ingredients..but the best part was chunks of mushrooms which you encounter.. mushroom can be so good who would've known! Although it had curry leaves but a completely different combination other than regular dosa which we have..the sambhar was also unique with a bit tangy and sweet flavour
Now the mains ..
5) Avial served with appam, neer dosa, and malabar paratha - avial actually is a south Indian mix veg cooked in coconut milk with.. it can be a bit bland to our taste buds but it's actually an authentic preparation goes well with the neer dosa. The neer dosa is extremely light as air you won't even understand if you've eaten it already or not.. the appams on the other hand are on a bit sweet side, these actually are made in a small kadhai , with that batter swirled around it and cooked till it acquires that round shape.. the Malabar paratha was star of the platter .. I mean those layers are insane! Crispy paratha with a dipping of the avial...wow.. fyi there are lots of other alternatives to avial which would go perfectly with these breads!
6) Dakshin Biryani - this is an andhra style Biryani and please do yourselves a favour and order this please..! It had that distinct dum flavour with assorted veggies , again mushroom too.. a perfect dish to have.. served with appalam which is a papad and order atleast 3 of them as you won't stop eating .. alongside veg raita .. the biryani is just too good to be true..
The dessert was. .
7)Akhrot halwa - it was pure walnut halwa with little bit sweetening topped with almonds.. I personally would've preferred it to be a bit sweet but definitely a unique dish which I hadn't heard of..
To top all this off we were served with filter coffee..and if you already know this is an authentic restaurant just please order this liquid gold! Piping hot strong coffee a perfect ending to all the meal you've just encountered!
A totally unique experience , with extremely courteous staff and super friendly service, constantly communicating with each and every customer and asking for feedbacks is commendable... Mr Rai the manager was so much welcoming and a perfect host ! The owners, one of them mr jayesh was super cool and thanks a lot for inviting me..
If you really want to try an authentic South Indian affair or want your jain friends to not feel shy just visit this restaurant.. please order the Dakshin Biryani and thank me later.. they also have a party area with around 50 seatings.. so if you are throwing one invite me too 😂
It was an awesome experience to eat southindian food after a long time .Specially the kurg Idilis are awesome and the Rasam soup is mouth licking and this place such a centre place to stop by and eat . And jain food is also available in good varaities
Taste 4.5/5
Ambience 4.5/5
Staff 5/5
Value for Money 4.5/5
Firstly I would like to Thank Mr. Jayesh for inviting me over at ‘On The Leaf’ for food reviewing program.
I feel lucky enough to dine at On The Leaf restaurant which has been opened just 6 months back in the heart of Pune city i.e. Camp area. The place is very easy to locate as it is on the main road.
They have dining arrangement on the ground floor and first floor. Ground floor is a little funky with red interiors whereas the fine dining experience is on the top floor. They also have a small party hall that can accommodate around 30-40 people in it.
The USP of ‘On The Leaf’ is that they serve very authentic and delicious flavours of South Indian cuisines. Going through the menu, I noticed that the serve around 20 types of Idlis, 16 types of Dosas and a huge range of main course.🤩
As the name, they serve the food on a Banana leaf which is placed on a steel plate, so very apt with the name.😜 Bright yellow and green effect on Cream brown coloured furniture.
Coming to the food, we ordered:
1. Jeera Milagu Rassam
Rassam is basically South Indian kinda soup, I have had many rassams but this Jeera Milagu Rassam was just fantastic. It’s was tangy with burnt garlic pieces and the consistency was very good. I really loved this.
2. Tiranga Idli
To my surprise these idlies were actually saffron, white and green. The saffron one was called Coorg Idli cooked with some herbs and spices but it had a pinch of sweetness. White Idli was the normal steamed idli. Green one was my favorite, Murgh Idli. It was spicy and totally suited my taste buds.
It was offered with mouthwatering Sambar and three types of chutneys.
3. Malabar Curry with Appam
Light creamish coloured curry with lots of rich veggies including paneer, beans, greens beans and many more. This one was bland as it was cooked in coconut milk and served with Appam. This dish was quite heavy.
4. Chettinad Biryani
Indian style tadka masala rice with veggies. The rice was perfectly cooked and I could sense that typical South Indian flavour on every morsel I had.
5. Coconut punch
A mocktail made of coconut milk, coconut water, vanilla ice cream, a creamy drink which was light like a cloud! It tasted very fine and pure. Best of the nature in that glass what I had.
6. Coconut water
How can one forget Coconut Water when talking about South India? Yes one huge fresh coconut water was placed on our table to relish and make our experience delightful.
My parents had accompanied me for dinner and we were so full in the above mentioned dishes.
They enjoyed the taste, flavours and hospitality of the staff working there.
Mr. Jayesh was very friendly and concerned about our dining. He explained us the details of the dishes we ordered and was very keen to get feedback from us.
Overall I had a wonderful dinner experience at ‘On The Leaf.’ I would recommend it to all to go and try the varieties of South Indian dishes. I would definitely visit again with my friends and family.
Though I am a non veg eater.. this place makes me fall in love with veg cuisine...
Tried the Malabar curry and appam and fell in love with it instantly😋 They have a different variety of rice dishes and I chose BBB-Bissi Bhele Bhaat and it is a must try. Akhrot halwa is something I've never eaten anywhere in Pune was the perfect end to my meal. 👍🏻
Visited the amazing restaurant just before closing time for a quick snack tonight...ordered masala spl dosa, masala papad and filter coffee...all my order was jain( without onion,garlic)..the presentation was great..loved the leaf within the plate..feels very authentic..taste was great and rather was very filling...masala papad and coffee were excellent too...and they serve paan in the end...a perfect meal/snack..Will surely try orher tempting dishes and I must recommend this place..must visit..
Visited restaurant again on sunday afternoon with family...ordered their special thali, veg chettinad , malabar paratha and idli poriyal..all of it was great and my family enjoyed it..go easy on the chilli as it is too spicy for my liking...
We walked into the restaurant and were greeted with fresh Coconut water. Pure joy!
Since we wanted to try the specialties, we had the manager suggest us quite a few items from the menu. Also, they literally serve food “on the leaf!”
This is what we ate:
•Idli Chilli Andhra Style: Idli coated in spicy masala
•Malabar Style Stew Idli: This is for the soul. Flavorful, aromatic stew with pieces of Idli and paneer. Must try!
•Pudi Onion Uttappam: Our favorite of the lot! Delicious pillowy uttappams.
•Rawa Dosa: Their version of rawa dosa also has cumin seeds along with cashews. We asked for Masala on side with a generous helping of sambar.
•Thakkali Dosa: This Dosa has a coating of tomato inside along with the Masala. It can get a little soggy from the moisture but doesn’t lose the taste.
•Semiya Paysam: We didn’t really enjoy the semiya. It was a little over sweet and we found a piece of plastic in it. So that was a bummer!
They serve fresh chutneys which explode with flavor!! And also end the meal with a Paan.
Our host who was also the manager of the place explained every item in great detail.
On The Leaf is a must try if you’re craving some South Indian for the soul. They have experimented a lot with the menu which has something for everyone!!
I had the chance of visiting this place last evening and it was a delight of a meal. On the leaf is a veg Authentic South Indian food place with even Jain preparations most of which were included in my meal.
The menu was a amalgamation of dishes from Kerala , Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh & Srilanka and let me tell u the amount of south Indian food I've eaten in Pune this place has a menu so different that I was blown away.
This place also has a banquet for 50-60 ppl.
Mr Jayaprasad Rai who manages the place was a superb host and was kind enough to guide me through all th dishes I ordered. Mr Rahil and Mr Jayesh who own the place we're also kind enough to make sure I had some amazing food.
My recommendation is definitely to try the rassam wada (130/-) ( available in Jain preparation) but I had the normal one with loads of garlic.
The Vagharela Idli Poriyal(180/-) was an epic tasty dish , the veg Malabar curry with Appam( 190/- + 30/-) is a beautiful tasty dish , Akhrot (walnut) halwa(180/-) is a must try.
I definitely ended it with some amazing filter kapi 😍

#ontheleaf
While shopping had a chance encounter with fellow foodie, Fhir Kya hona, we decided to try out "On The Leaf" situated at East Street having heard quite a lot about it.
Cooked rice was mixed along potatoes, onions, chillies and stuffed with cheese.

Filter kafi - served in authentic filter kafi bartan, this too was best and another good part was that i forget to add sugar cubes and it did not Taste bitter at all, it was so pure

An amazing authentic south Indian food experience. A culmination of dishes from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & Srilanka. This place is newly opened and needs to be visited if ur a true foodie.

Here they will provide you three south Indian chutneys will all dishes. All chutneys are coconut based.
Green Mint and coriander based chutney

Sambar here was not an authentic south Indian sambar but it was good. Flavor of Spices, Hing, vegetables were mild and good. It was mild tangy.
Butter Milk
They have masala and plain butter milk. We had Masala one. It had the kick of green chillies.

Unique dish served here. Idli and potatoes stewed in thick gravy which had flavours of curry leaves, green chillies, tangyness of curd. Gravy also had besan in it. Loved it.
Pepper Corn Capsicum Uttapam
Flavour of capsicum was dominating the other flavours of pepper and corn. This Uttapam was ok.

This halwa was fantastic. Perfectly sweet, mild bitter and Lots of Ghee adds richness to halwa. Was garnished with chopped almonds. Loved it.
Filter Coffee
The Filter Coffee was served in traditional tumbler and dabara with bowl of sugar cubes. Coffee was frothy and with detailed flavour of the coffee. Loved it.
I like my breakfast heavy and this place gave it to me in their best way. Not only was it heavy but a delicious neatly presented heavy meal!
Wanted to try this place out since they were new to me and sat there, gazing at the long menu. That's when Mr. Rajesh or Ramesh I am not sure, helped me with recommendations after hearing my preference. He suggested the On the leaf special masala dosa and GOD, IT WAS DELISH! Paneer stuffed masala dosa symmetrically cut into four pieces garnished with cheese grating. I wouldn't say the prices are high since they're making it worth paying.
The place has a small, tidy ambience. And there's a first floor too. No idea about it since i didn't go upstairs.
Dosa - 4.5/5
Service - 4.5/5
Ambience - 3.5/5
Will definitely visit more.
