Often, while driving on the GB road, I used to whiz past 38 Bangkok Street near kasarwadavli and always made a mental note of dropping by once and trying the food here. More so, I was also intruiged by the name, " 38 bangkok street " , I found it interesting and was curious to find out what the place had to offer.
So, Yesterday , i. e On the 2nd Oct'15, I decided to set foot and allow the foodie in me to try on some asian delicacies :P
We were two of us , and decided to catch on for an early evening dinner.
To start with, as soon as you enter , you are welcomed in by their greeting staff. The place has mellow interiors, nothing bright or jazzy poking in the eye kinda of a thing.. I like and prefer subdued interiors. Also , there is light music humming in the background, which works just fine for me , as personally , I believe it helps to have a better meal and a better conversation if the music isn't jarring and the walls ain't shouting in your face.
Going forward, Lets come to the main part - The Food !! :D
Ofcourse, since this was our first time, we were in a fix as to what to order. Mr Shaan, ( who i assume to be the Manager ) was more than happy to come forward and offer us with his suggestions.
Also, apart from his recommendations, we ourselves also wished to try out a few items on our own to surge the experimental streak in us :P
Firstly let me tell you, it is an all vegetarian place. They pride in offering authentic veg preparations. But hey! who knew that veg food could also taste great? Trust me, being an avid non veg lover, I never really fancy eating veg food, but my views after having the food here were pleasantly changed to yes, veg food can taste good too ;-)
I always say , 'Order the right food, and you wouldn't be disappointed ' Ofcourse how do we know whats the right thing to order? Well Thats where Zomato Reviews, Staff's suggestion and a bit of your intuitive sense comes in handy.
So for starters, we ordered the Java Lotus Stem & the Wasabi Water Chestnuts. And believe me, this was when i had the epiphany that Veg Food is seriously underrated and it took me by surprise as both of these dishes were mindblowing!! I have had lotus stem preparation at a friend's place once, and i have to admit i didnt quite appreciate how it had tasted back then, therefore i was a bit apprehensive initially before ordering lotus stem, but going by the zomato reviews, i thought of taking the shot and giving it a try. and boy was I glad or what!! It turned out to be lipsmacking!! The small stem cut pieces were crispy and stirfried in sauce. the end result was - yum. My friend thoroughly enjoyed this dish as she was in doubt crinkling up her face when i had asked for ordering the lotus stem , later after tasting the dish she was glad i did !!
The wasabi waterchestnuts were also not to be left behind. These crunchy balls tossed with tasty wasabi infused sauce turned out to be a delightful appetizer.
Along with our starters, we opted to go for the Mocktails. You must try the Mocktails. For Rs.80 per mocktail pretty good deal eh ?
So, we went with the watermelon lemonade..and i seem to to have forgotten the name of my mocktail..:P the name was something starting with M, and it had a blend of passion fruit , pineapple and soda. Both the mocktails tasted fine, albiet the passion fruit mocktail had a bit too much of crushed ice into it and so chances of your drink getting diluted and losing its original taste are very high. So be careful when your having crushed ice, if you wish to enjoy and sip on your drink slowly, you might wanna think twice before going for it, as the crushed ice melts up pretty fast and all you get to drink is flavoured water.
Along with this, Mr.Shaan wanted us to try out one of their most sought out Mocktails - The Chocolate Martini, So we were pleasantly surprised when the server brought it up and placed on our table and Mr.Shaan warmly smiles offering it as compliments on the house waiting for us to try and see if we like it.
The chocolate martini was good, was thick smooth chocolaty covered in chocolate froth. The taste was pretty much that of a chocolate milkshake. But nonetheless, worth a try.
For Mains, we went for the Thai Curry - Green and Nasi Goreng.. and this was wherethings got spiced up!! thankgod for the mocktails because both these items were tremendously spicy.. the thai curry especially.. it was the kind of spicy that irritated your throat while the rice, (nasi goreng) was hot on the tongue. Since both me and my friend, werent much of spicy eaters, it turned out to be way too spicy for us. be sure to mention it while placing the order to go easy on the spices and chillies. Sadly because of the overload of fiery spices , we couldnt enjoy or rather even finish these two dishes. Had it not been for this one small glitch, I wouldve rated the place with a 5. Because rest all areas they managed to impress us successfuly. The staff is courteous and hospitable and oh i almost forgot to mention, Mr Shaan was really gracious enough to want us to try out the Sangkaya cake yet again with compliments from the house, when we had asked for packing up the food and were about to leave. The Sangkaaya cake is really a must try guys, a warm square cut pumpkin-coconut cake placed on a dish with a dollop of vanilla icecream over it , the cake is soft and moist and the combination of the cake with the icecream is marvellous.
Customer Elation is something that works wonders to put in a good name. Yes, i did have a nice time at 38 bangkok street albiet a few glitches here and there. The final experience is all what matters. I am sure as hell gonna come here back to try out the other things from the menu as well and also drop by a word to my friends , fellow zomans and on my instagram to urge everyone to come try out this place.
p.s: total bill for two people amounted us to about Rs 1200 (inclusive of all taxes)
also i liked chewing on the khimchi salad and pickled cucumber and carrots placed in two cute bowls on the table for you to snack on till your order arrives. And yes the best part - after your meals done.. they give you Fortune Cookies!! :D
