Gokhale Upahaar Gruha is one of my favourites in Thane. They offer light snack items at reasonable prices. The kitchen is clean and can be seen from outside. Their items have a unique taste. Be it Sabudana vada, Thalipith or Piyush. The place offers a sitting area as well as take away options. Parking can be an issue as this is located in main business area of Thane.

It's one of the famous restaurant in the vicinity especially for Maharashtrian type of food. The menu is loaded with variety and it includes the उपवासाचे i.e. Food permitted in fasting. The taste is very nice and preparation is nice. It has typical marathi vibes. The ambience is similar to a restaurant but a tiny one. The seating arrangement accommodates about 24 persons and there is a separate area for standing. It is a self service restaurant and you have to first place the order and collect it after it is prepared. The restaurant is quite busy in the breakfast hours and on holiday. I will recommend the Puri Bhaji, Misal, Dahi Vada, Matar Karanji, Kharvas and Modak if available.

The hotel has self service and around 4 tables for sitting. Also one can have food standing with attached platform in a seperate room. Prices are bit higher but taste is good.

I rated service as 3 stars because it is a self service place. Outstanding food no comparison to anybody second to none. Be it anything, misal, poha, sabudana wada, everything is super fresh and delicious. The old man Mama is very sweet and helpful. Always happy to serve. A few minus points, parking is an issue so take a bike rather than car. Place is relatively small so could be waiting at peak hours. I Can visit anytime any day.

I recently had the pleasure of savoring the Misal Pav at Gokhale Upahargruh, and it was an absolute delight for my taste buds. The dish was a perfect blend of spicy and flavorful, with a generous serving of sprouts, farsan, and a tantalizing gravy. The Misal had just the right amount of heat, making it a true Maharashtrian culinary experience. The pav was fresh and served warm, complementing the dish perfectly. What stood out was the authenticity of the flavors, transporting me to the streets of Maharashtra with each bite. If you're a fan of traditional Indian flavors and enjoy a bit of spice, I highly recommend trying the Misal Pav at Gokhale Upahargruh. It's a delightful culinary journey that captures the essence of this iconic dish.

A lot of my Friends from thane had suggested this place to be an Authentic Maharashtrian Breakfast and Snack place. And it stands true to all the Praise it receives. Such restaurants deserve the necessary social media attention as well, cause the Food they serve is on point and does not over promise and under deliver. I had the Sabudana wada and Aluwadi which was really fresh and Classic. Also the Piyush was thick and Filling.

It was started by Shri Bhargav Gokhale almost 8 decades ago as a small eatery and has grown in leaps and bounds in size and also in terms of its popularity. This is gauged by a simple observation, the crowd that queues at the cash counter irrespective of the tome of the day. This is pay-first & eat later type of eatery / restaurant. They operate on a self-service mode. They have done up the place in such a way that patrons can sit on the tables placed opposite the cash counter for which you obviously have to wait for your turn or you can stand & eat in the adjoining room. The kitchen has a see-through glass put up and one can watch the activities inside. The one thing which stuck to me was the cleanliness of the place. It was spic-n-span to a fault. At frequent intervals, a couple of guys would come to sweep the floor & swab it clean with a mop. This activity was carried out irrespective of whether or not anything had dropped / spilled / fallen on the floor. There was a place for everything and everything was at its place. It goes without saying that people who care so much about hygiene & cleanliness will no doubt be serving a very good quality food. I tried the MISAL which was midly spiced and a bit easy on the oil. The taste was very unique in its own way. They use farsan & thin gathia to garnish the Misal. This is a MUST-HAVE dish at this restaurant. Next I tried the Kothimbir Wadi, which was served 3 pieces to a plate. The Kothimbir Wadi was lightly fried for a short duration. This was evident from the insides of the Wadi retaining their moistness and softness. Surely RECOMMENDED. I was hungry for more hence I tried the WADA PAV. The Wada was mild in taste, of a decent size and crisply fired. I had a KARVAND JUICE as a beverage. Karvand or Karonda [as known in Hindi] is a reddish black berry which is found in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Its taste is dominantly sweet with a tinge of sourness. It was a refreshing change from the aerated drinks that we are used to having. The price for the above items came to Rs.110 per head which is VFM according to me. Gokhale Uphaar Gruh takes pride is serving pure & authentic Maharashtrian vegetarian snack food & mini meals. The very fact that many locals throng this place is an indicator of its popularity and never-ending hordes of fans. This is definitely a MUST-VISIT place in Thane to sample some Maharashtrian delicacies! Food Quality – 4/5 Food Quantity – 4/5 Ambience – 4/5 Price – 4/5 Service – NA [It’s a self-service outlet]
