One of the place that we visited during our road trip this year. We had lunch at this place enroute to our hotel in Manipal. This happens to be a popular local place. Wonder on how we never went in during our previous visits. Anyways, the ambience of this place is strictly okay. Sea food frying is the first thing that you will notice (smell!) as soon as you enter the place. But, the place looks clean and the food is absolutely delicious. We had fish meals with pomfret, seer fish and prawns (pepper fry and ghee roast). The Seer Fish and the Prawns were really fresh and nicely cooked. The prices were slightly on the higher side considering the ambience of the place. We spent about 3K for a bunch of 5 people. If it was only for food, then this deserves a 5 star. But, considering the prices, i had to cut 1.

Hotel Thimappa is located near karavali junction, Udupi. This place is very popular with locals. You should head there early, otherwise you have to face the huge crowd gathered there. We ordered fish thali, pomfret tawa fry, anjal tawa fry and prawns ghee roast. I really loved fish thali with that fish gravy and beetroot curry. My favourite item was definitely pomfret tawa fry which was fried to perfection. Anjal tawa fry was as usual great and prawns ghee roast was really good. You can feel that freshness of prawns in that dominating ghee roast. Overall this place is amazing, I can still feel the taste of seafood. Ambience was basic and service was really quick. They have different family section, which is comparatively big and clean.

A fairly non-descript small mess type hotel that looks so unassuming from outside but serves some of the most delicious coastal food.. that fish curry and rice with variety of fishes & prawns in different styles of preparation is something to savour for a long time.. so surprised at the rating.. I haven’t reviewed on Zomato for a while but the sumptuous meal I just had there brought out the Good Samaritan in me and I immediately wanted everyone to know this place is a bonafide 5 star and is a must visit if you are visiting Udupi!

Thimappa Fish Meals is a simple restaurant with good service which everyone in Malpe, Udupi or Manipal should visit. The fish fry is delicious and very affordable. It delivers not only on the quality but also on value. I would strongly recommend trying all the different fish fry without missing their Surmai (kingfish), Pomfret, Ladyfish (Kane). In order to eat all these fish fries, you should first inform the staff there that you would like to not have rice but only fish fried and they would gladly serve you as per your desire.

Absolutely stunning Manglorean Fish Fry if you're ever in the mood for it. This place would seriously give Giri Manja in Mangalore a run for its money. Situated at Karavali Junction, the modest enterprise has a very rustic seating arrangement of long tables and stools and although there is quite a lot of space you will almost always find the place full. The Fish varies from Surmai, Mackerel, Pomfret to name a few and delves into other local delicacies as well such as Solefish, Catla and Silver Fish. The only downside would be that prawns surprisingly doesn't feature in the menu but even that fault could be ignored considering the cost, taste and the service...

A traditional fish plate meal place with the freshest catch from the nearby ocean , Thimappa is the place for a great value meal. Super busy with quick service , the basic fish plate , with rice , sat ( fish based curry ) local rice and pickels is priced at Rs 30/- to it you can add fresh fish , Tava or Rava , that is shallow fried on iron griddle or coated with Rava ( semolina / suji ) and deep fried. The choice of fish when I was there inclused , phamplet , Anjal and a new variety named disco. The price per portion of fish range between Rs 50 to Rs 110/- , amazing value for such fresh seafood.

A must visit for fish lovers . Great insight into the local culinary habits. Highly recommended

This place is one of the iconic places in Udupi to have fish meals. You get amazing fish thali and fried fish. Thava fry of Anjal is to die for! Price is little high compared to other restaurants, but oh boy, it's worth the taste!

Best place to try coastal fish fry in low key setting. Crowded yet they arrange seats in orderly manner. Service is fast. Taste is great. Ghee roast special is also available. Can order takeaways too. Can't wait for next time.

One of the most top tier fish meals I've ever had. It's almost always crowded. We had to wait for over 10 min to get a table. The seating is a little congested. With tables right next to the fish frying stand. The serving staff was very friendly and gave quality recommendations. Always close by to serve anything and look into our needs. Chicken related menu is not recommended. They serve food on banana leaves. Very wide variety of options from the coastal menu. Small parking space for a couple of two wheelers is available.

Tasty seafood! Had Angal tawa fry & squid fry. Both items were good. The staff was also very helpful. The only issue is the crowd! The restaurant is too crowded, we might not fully enjoy the meal! The restaurant is not very spacious, this makes the congestion worse. Anyway more and more people are having seafood here due to its quality!

I believe it's a bit overrated because I've eaten better sea food compared to this place which is a speciality for sea food. The taste was good and also the price is reasonable. The experience of eating in a banana leaf instead of a plate is the signature here.

Thimmappa, i heard from locals, is legendary - and so we decided to have our lunch there during our vacation. It was great! The food is delicious and hygienic; the service is superfast, with most items delivered to your table within 1-2 minutes! The staff are helpful and patient despite the rush, and finally, it's very affordable. Fish meals are the staple, and we ate a variety of seafood - prawn butter roast, anjal fry, bhuthai fry, Disco, bangda fry and so on - each item was well prepared and tasty! Highly recommended. It's a no-nonsense place though - dont expect fancy plates, fancy seating or fancy items on the menu - it's just fish meals - one item, perfected to a 10/10!

THIMMAPPA fish meals restaurant is a well known and famous place in udupi! This small eatery is a treat to visit and the taste is just amazing. King fish and pomfret are the bestseller here. Even the disco fish was delicious! We had taken meals which has both normal and boiled rice options! The only thing is you will have to wait for almost 45-60 minutes as it’s toooo crowded during public holidays and weekends.

There are two sitting spaces. The new one is neat and is more spacious than the older one. Food is very tasty. Tried fish meals with anjal fry, bangude fry, squid ghee roast , anjal ghee roast. All the dishes were yummy. After completing our lunch we concluded that it was worth waiting 1 hour for a Sunday lunch at Thimappa. Yet an effort should be made by the owner to increase the number of seats if such rush continues.

Ghee roast, Rawa fry, Tawa fry in different varieties of fish’s, a must try. Tables are on sharing basis. Boiled rice with fish curry the main course. Start with rice and as you eat they keep getting different types of fish. For a fish lover I think this is the place to eat and enjoy. Would highly recommend visiting hotel.

The thali costs just Rs40 or so and it’s unlimited. You can add fried fish which range from 150-350 or so based on the fish you choose to complete your perfect fish meal 💙 We really enjoyed the thali, chhas and fish fry. We also ordered prawn ghee roast, which was okay and crab masala fry which we didn’t enjoy much. The place is mostly always crowded so do expect a waiting- but it’s worth it :)

They serve the best fish meals in Udupi. Economical and one must try their fish frys. There will be waiting all the time, but it's worth the wait ... Don't expect ambience or fine dining, but the food will surely impress you.

Fresh sea food, local culture and taste, that's what is offered here. It was my first time there and I loved the freshness of the food. They serve food on banana leaf, boiled red rice, white rice, chapati and some sabzi are offered as main course. You can choose the fish, chicken or paneer items on the menu. Not sure about reservation but you might need to wait outside if it is lunch time over weekends. It can get super hot inside and you might not feel comfortable because it's not a fancy setup. But food is awesome.

One of the iconic places for non-veg lovers especially seafood in Udupi. The place truly has a brand in its a name. The outlet is small and you need to require a landmark as the crowd of the people waiting outside itself tells the popularity of the restaurant. The meal is 40rs and it's simple serving fish curry and rice in two forms. But what makes it a unique I'd the variety of sea food that they serve at different price depending on season. One of most like Deep fried Buthai, or prawn rava fry is classic. Their disco fish fry is a must try. One of the most interesting facts that I found was that for the first time I had rice cooked in huge steamers continuously even at 3pm.

It is a very good hotel if you are a fish Lover. While normal meal starts with Rs 40 only, you will get a plenty number of fish varieties in reasonable price. It may be crowdy during lunch.
