I didn't seen the helicopter but that helipad area is using as vehicles parking and they built chairs to sit and enjoy the beach view from top. Evening time will be good to enjoy the sunset.

Had a good cliff walk exploring cafes and eateries. There were so many shops to choose from and shop for souvenirs.
A very happening place after 7:30pm with tourists and locals gathering here.
It's a great view point to the varkala cliff and the beach. Varkala helipad is used now as the vehicle parking for the spot and the various resorts nearby. It's usually crowed at evenings .
Finding a spot to park the vehicle is usually a bit difficult during evenings and night because of the rush.
Though varkala helipad parking space is vast, finding a spot to park your vehicle will be a task in the rush hours . Place used to be very hot , using a sunscreen is highly recommended.
This is the cliff area of the varkala beach. Helipad and parking co exists on the same place . A wide view of the beach and sea can be seen from the cliff top . This is the entry point to many cafés , hostels and resorts .

It is a perfect place to spend the evening time. You can enjoy the beauty of Varkala Cliff from here. People come here for jogging in the morning. As the starting point for Cliffy is from here, there is a lot of traffic and there is a lot of parking facilities here. Many foreign and local tourists visit here. The sunset from here is very beautiful to watch.
