Visited this Old Cafe in Prayagraj, a place known for its history as a famous and established coffee house since 1975. The cafe's charm lies in its vintage feel and the sense of tradition it carries. However, the taste of their Indian filter coffee was average and didn't quite match up to the hype. While the cafe's legacy is certainly noteworthy, I felt that its reputation might have exceeded the actual experience. If you're a fan of history and nostalgia, it's worth a visit, but do keep in mind that the coffee might not live up to the lofty expectations.
I had ordered butter masala dosa, which I had in the Indian coffee house, Connaught place branch and since then I have become its fan. Butter masala dosa at the Prayagraj branch cost me around 170 rupees which was more expensive than Connaught place. Also, they charged an extra refill of sambhar or coconut chutney. Beside dosa, I didn't like the sambhar as it was missing its key ingredients and was watery. Butter masala dosa's taste was similar to that I had in Connaught place, but the sambhar and coconut chutney wasn't up to the mark. Also I had told the manager, that Indian Coffee House doesn't charge extra for refills in Connaught place, so he didn't charge for the coconut chutney. I appreciated this noble gesture.
Also IHC has a heritage of serving authentic Indian food through generations at minimal cost. It's run by a cooperative society. The way of serving, the building, the fan, the uniform of the waiter hasn't changed. Elderly people often love to visit this place, as you'll notice here, maybe that reminds them of their good old days and the memories that they shared here.
Do visit for butter masala dosa.
When you feel like visiting somewhere back in time but authentic and off the charts, this is the place. The coffee was good, the dosa too, but the only thing that didn't go with the place was the cleanliness. Still Worth visiting.
