Sree Raj Bhavan seems to be one of those old school vegetarian restaurants of Madras that is still surviving in the corporate Chennai. The ambience is not that great but seems tidy. You have to buy token for meals beforehand. The veg meals consists of limited portion rice with sambar, karakolambu, morekolambu, rasam, more, kootu, poriyal, kesari and appalam. Taste was good overall. I liked their karakolambu and morekolambu in particular. Kathirikai kootu was good too. Service was good. The veg meal costs just Rs60 which I think is good value for money.
Taste : 4/5 ; Ambiance : 3/5 ; Service : 3/5 ; VFM : 3.5/5
Hotel Raj Bhavan is located on the royapettah high road where it meets with gowdia mutt road very near to the popular Cafe Amin...From the outside looks no different than any normal non veg restaurant...with some normal roadside parking only..The ambiance is pretty basic one to seat around 40 ppl the Non A/C hall is average in maintenance too...they are quick and clearing out the plates too..The service is quick and prompt but you definitely cant expect professional behavior as the service looks similar to most veg restaurants in the city..
On my recent visit for breakfast ordered a pongal and medu vada and a onion dosai...Served in very less time...the pongal was really good with perfect taste and laden with ghee and the sambar served along with it was really thick and tasty...tasted really good...the vada was great too with a crispy outer and a soft and fluffy middle..The onion dosa was average stuff though...the chutney served along with fresh and tasty...
Total came to 100 rs for the meal which was pretty nominal for the food served and worth spending..
Good restaurant! Good food for price, easy on your pockets when compared to other restaurants nearby. The food isn't excellent but it's good. The place is decent as well.
