Had a very pleasant experience, i would term it as finding of a 'Serene Gem' amidst the list of loud and crowded cafes in the town. The ambience is simple yet so appealing with a 180 degree scenic view..best time to visit is sunset/evening. Though the menu is more or less limited but is sufficient for someone who is looking for a getaway to have some light snacks with coffee or choose from numerous options of tea, Recommended!
Elegant interior with a open roof arrangement, overlooking an expansive view. The food is tasty. Maggi is not on the menu because the wrapper doesn't recycle. You go there for serene ambience and the super cute host.
Old Rajpur Road is one of the places I frequent because of the excellent drive and the numerous food outlets. A couple of days ago I happened to see Silk Route Cafe's board and, without further ado, went in to check it out.
Note : The incredible desserts at this restaurant are from Baked For You - a homebaker who has an exclusive collaboration with Silk Route Café and also provides home delivery all over Dehradun for customised baked goods.
How was it? I believe my rating on the review conveys it. Here is the detailed review for the same :
1. Location
The cafe is on the steep incline upward from Rajpur on the right hand side of the road. Parking available roadside.
2. Seating and Ambiance
The cafe has outdoor seating divided into a shaded space and an open one. The open space overlooks a 270° panaromic view of the Mussoorie hills and the Dehradun valley which is absolutely breathtaking.
The chill ambiance is completed by the really cool playlist that is sure to keep you humming.
3. Service
The food takes a bit of time to arrive but that's because everything is prepared from scratch. What's more - the head chef is one of the owners and is responsible for nearly everything that reaches your table : talk about a personal touch!
4. Food
We tried quite a few dishes from their menu and found everything to be of a good quality and flavour.
Note : The meats are available in jhatka as well as halal variety - be sure to request for your preference.
Before I describe the food, I'll mention the beverage I took - a CRANBERRY COOLER which was generic but perfect in every way.
We started the meal with CRISPY HONEY CHILLI POTATOES and CHICKEN SANDWICH WITH FRIES. The fries in both dishes were thin and crispy. The sandwich was grilled and had a rather tasty creamy filling.
Next we ordered CHICKEN NOODLES and SPAGHETTI WITH MINCED CHICKEN - both dishes were true to their traditional recipes and clearly represented the contrast of their origins : full marks!
Impressed with their traditionalist approach, we decided to try ROASTED CHICKEN BREAST WITH MASHED POTATOES and their SPECIAL OMELETTE. The former was quite good, yes. But the latter - oh my god! Fluffy, cheesy, the right amount of additives and, hold on to your seats - tiny bits of chicken salami! Such a genius touch!
Note : Winter is coming and their Omelette + a beverage and the view is THE BEST COMBINATION I CAN THINK OF ♥!
5. Baked For You
Last we tried a variety of scrumptious baked delights from their dessert counter.
We first played it safe and started with PINEAPPLE CAKE which turned out to be so fresh that we couldn't wait to try everything else!
Before drowning ourselves in chocolate, we tried a few of their dry cakes : MALTA CAKE, COFFEE WALNUT CAKE and LEMON ALMOND CAKE. While they sounded similar, it was a pleasant surprise to find that each of them had its own distinct flavour.
Next came the chocolates : DENSE CHOCOLATE WALNUT CAKE (moist and impeccably flavoured), CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES (little cups of heaven in my opinion) and, the star of the show, NUTELLA BROWNIE (which was so amazing that I got 2 pieces packed to take home!!).
Conclusion :
All in all, Silk Route Cafe & their desserts courtesy Baked For You are an unbeatable package that you should definitely try!
