A restaurant, the only criterion being that it should be an authentic Bengali experience. I started wracking my brain. There are quite a few places that serve Bengali cuisine nowadays, but I felt that in most cases the food served did not measure up to my expectations. I started asking around and someone mentioned CHILEKOTHA. The restaurant is not very large, but it has a very comfortable, reassuring ambience. The decor is reminiscent of aristocratic homes that still exist in the northern part of this city. Anyone who has some knowledge about Bengali cuisine will know that the variety of tastes is mind - boggling in its diversity. There are dishes that titillate the taste buds despite the fact that there is the merest hint of spices added to it. There are other dishes, rich and aromatic, conjuring up the image of a princely banquet. CHILEKOTHA has managed to capture all the finest nuances of Bengali cuisine and can be said to be one of the finest restaurants in Kolkata today! This restaurant has 'Thali' meals which are pretty substantial. The a la carte has a section where one finds 'fusion' cuisine ... essentially Bengali food Gondhoraj chicken Topshe mach fry Keema coated egg devil Basanti pulav Lachcha Paratha Chicken Side Dish Mutton Side dish Baked Patishapta we just gorged ourselves. The food is so good that one needs to keep going back for more since one cannot do justice to the food during a single visit. Please visit this restaurant. I am already planning my next binge there!
