The Mainland China buffet has been a constant once a month visit with my whole family for years now. Really love the food and how consistent it’s been. I love the staff and the generic wooden chinese vibe interiors. The starters are an absolute dream. I eat a ton of salad and kimchi and dikon. The stirfried prawns are heavenly and so are the baby potatoes and chicken drumsticks. The dim sum and soup are always yummy too, and you must add the chilli paste and spring onion oil to them for a perfect bite. The mains have got a spread of gravies from hunan to chilli sauce to burnt garlic butter to sweet ones. The crab is my favourite and I make a bit of a mess when breaking the bits apart but that’s the fun part. The desserts always have sweet darshan and 4 ice cream flavours which are yum, along with a bunch of tiny pastries, fruit and a special item. We went today and they had a rum soaked Xmas cake. You get options of 1 coke or sprite with your food if you opt for the buffet, and unlimited cups of jasmine tea. An absolute must visit when you hit Calcutta.
Tried the buffet of Mainland China. Has 20+ items. This place serves one of the best indo-chinese food in kolkata. The buffet is quite good but not excellent. Some dishes could be better with thinner batter coatings. Dessert and starter sections are very good but main course has room for improvement especially considering the price of the buffet. Buffet is priced at ₹1045/- + tax. Would like to see some variety in main course dishes.
Situated in the South City Mall. We were 9 people. The ambience was nice. We took a weekday buffet. The cost was Rs.1075+GST. Service was good, Food was nice. The items should be revised. The taste was good, all the items were almost non spicy. But according to the food, the price was too high. We can get a good buffet in the lower price range also. Mainly China's standard dropped a bit. But for any family outing, get together, you can surely visit them.
