Finally dropped in for a breakfast in Mr. & Mrs Iyer Cafe" run by a young Tamil couple in New Alipore (Opposite Hindustan Sweets) after reading about it in Calcutta Times and this review is salute to the owners labour of love and quest for excellence. Like most Northerners, for me 'South Indian' food begins at idli, vadas and ends in dosa, maybe going till uttapam for a change of taste but food lovers know the South of India offers a treasure trove of incredible cuisines and unfortunately most restaurants in Kolkata don't provide that authentic taste. It was pleasantly surprising to find that unlike other more established restaurants, food at "Mr. & Mrs. Iyer's" is homestyle which means there is no extra oil or spices and hence the food retains it authentic Southern touch and flavours. Did I mention that they serve the absolutely best "Red Chutney". For a someone like me who loves South Indian food so much, this new restaurant of Iyer Couple has arrived as a fresh air and is now certainly my new favourite. The food is so good and is absolutely rich, flavourful and tasty. The very competitive, easy on the pocket pricing makes it bang for every buck. Drop in or order from Zomato & Swiggy.
