I had come here for lunch with folks from my office. We were to first to arrive but people slowly started coming in. I was a little skeptical about the pure veg South Indian buffet, but it turned out to be pretty good. A good variety of food, desserts and beverages on the spread for the amount we had paid. The quality of food was good and it was light on the stomach.
The ambience of the place could improve as it looked a little dull even during lunchtime. Also, the way they served their starters needs improvement. You can't just bring one piece of paneer for every person on a table. At least bring an ample quantity so that if someone wants to have a little more, they will not have to wait for another 10 minutes.
The service, otherwise, was good and the staff was polite and courteous.
Overall, I'd say that SouthIndies is a good place with caveats. We purchased the vouchers from Nearbuy at a discounted price, but I wouldn't want to pay the price advertised here on Zomato.
I love South Indian food. And here is a restaurant with a twist. I loved the food. Especially the variety of rasams with poori ( pani poori style)
Service was good.
Didn’t like ambience. expected it to be more South Indian style. It wasn’t.
Price was ok considering it’s location.
I am very surprised at the comparatively low rating for this gem. I myself am rating it 4 instead of 4.5; I have cut 0.5 points for the basement parking (horrible- badly lit, smelly, musty, dirty) and toilets (smelly and not kept clean). But to turn to its food and that’s another matter. This is a underrated gem that more people should frequent.
To start with there were 5-6 types of starters all good in taste and presentation. – banana dosa, dahi vada, small idli, chilli bhaji, appe etc. The main course with 2-3 types of rice, sambar, dal and 2-3 types of vegetable dishes is consistently good in taste. Appams accompanying the food was wonderful. There was a reasonable spread of desserts; I only had ice cream with choc sauce. To end with was the filter coffee, the best I have tasted in Pune.
There are some shortcomings: I mentioned the parking and state of the toilet earlier. The staff is also not so great– they need to be more smart, attentive, more well-trained, vocal etc. I went on a weekday and the AC was shut, the place was stuffy, hot and musty; and not very well lit.
This place deserves better publicity, more customers and is simply one of the best deals in town; especially if you use one of the apps to buy its coupon. Bon Appetit!
