A nice little restaurant on Paud Road. Even though it's primarily frequented by bachelor's and single males, (can't really call it a family place), they serve some lip smacking butter chicken. It may not be the best in Pune, but is definitely better than some over hyped places. This is worth mentioning as a good restaurant to order Butter chicken. We have been ordering for many years now and the taste hasn't changed.
Suggestion- They also serve some good chicken reshmi kebabs as well!
Hotel Shreeman - Old Wine in a New Bottle
Hotel Shreeman has recently undergone a drastic transformation from a gents-preferred watering hole to a family restaurant with soft lighting and efficient service.
I recently visited them and it was definitely encouraging to see the efforts and thoughts put in.
Cocktails
A gin-based cocktail, the Rosemary and Elder Martini had elder flower syrup as a mixer which went surprisingly well with the alcohol. The rosemary twig on top was a nice touch.
Appetizers
The Mutton Sukkha had lamb chunks marinated in masala. Overall a decent dish, however the meat was slightly chewy. On the other hand, the Chicken Malwani sported some lovely flavors.
The Tawa Prawns was another dish that I personally liked. Well cooked, it had the typical spicy Indian masalas for the taste punch.
Mains
For mains, we tried the Veg. Kasturi, Butter Chicken and Gavran Chicken with Indian breads for company.
The Veg. Kasturi is a typical mixed veg. dish prepared in tomato gravy and topped with white cream. The veggies were assorted and cooked nicely in the gravy. The Butter Chicken was delicious with perfectly cooked tender chicken chunks and a perfect consistency gravy with a hint of sweetness.
The Gavran Chicken Sukka pieces were served with gravy separately. I would order the dish just for the gravy as well. A perfectly made gravy using chicken broth and pieces which imparted some wonderful flavors to it. The sukka pieces too were well cooked.
Dessert
The Blueberry Cheesecake was a work of art. Perfect proportions of the crunchy base, the actual cheesecake and the filling. Gorgeous to look at and scrumptious to taste. This, I suspect, was outsourced from the German Bakery next door. π
All in all, Hotel Shreeman has definitely amped up their game with a brand-new look and theme to the place. The new cocktail bar is well equipped to whip up some delectable drinks for the patrons.
Recently went into renovation, the renewed Hotel Shreeman wears a modern ambience as it resumes its services for the Punekars. Boasting on huge Goodwill in Kothrud, this place isn't new. Being now family centric, the venue is looks welcoming if you're in here with the families & friends. Having both indoor & outdoor seatings, it also has an air conditioned section on the floor above, which is isolated from outside chaos, making the experience even pleasant. As mentioned the ambience is pretty & modern, allows one to dine in with more comfort.
In drinks I had Gauva Mary, which was amazing. Their Passion twister, Cremi Hazel, Melito are good.
Coming to starters, their signature dish - Chicken Rosali Kebab was so good. Topped with cheese this boneless chicken starter, has a delicious stuffing wrapped inside. This is worth giving a try. Chicken Malavani was next up, & this coconut flavour dominating dish was great. Prawns fan any? Their Prawns Tawa fry would make you happy. A spicy blend to it made it delicious. Paneer Banjara consists of soft grilled panner was great too.
In the main course, Gavran Chicken curry was too good. Maharashtrian styled chicken coupled with bhakari was the highlight of this course. You don't get this kind of authentic curries (as everyone manipulates it to make look delicious) these days. I would recommend this one. Butter Chicken was up next & it didn't disappoint. There is still a never ending debate I get to hear, whether it should be sweet or spicy? Well, everyone is making one in their own way! Mixed vegetable subji called Veg Kasturi was the last in the lot. It was okay, but according to me it needs some improvement.
Before I wrap up, I went on to try a couple of desserts. The first was Blueberry cheesecake. And it was amazing. The German Bakery Sachertorte - a rich in chocolate kind of dessert offered a great finish to the a scrumptious meal.
Service here at Shreeman was surely commendable, the waiter staff was very quick to respond & asked if customization is needed before preparing dishes. Overall this place is looking great & serving well. This should be a good place to visit in Kothrud.
