I had pork with fresh bamboo shoot thali. The dish was mainly a bowl of rice with a bowl of pork curry and boiled cabbage salad and a bowl of daal on the side. I loved the items, the pork curry was simple yet tasty, not too spicy. It felt like a homely meal. However, I tried to taste the chutneys that come with the dice. I didn't like them at all , the red one was too spicy. There was boiled bitter gourd also.
The price was 250 , which is kinda fine but it could have been around 200 depending on the items.
Anyways, I had a good experience. I haven't had Naga food before, so I have nothing prior to compare it with.
Naga Food is famous for using Bamboo Shoot in its cuisine. So how apt was it for Achi to name her cute Naga restaurant, Bamboo Shoot. Achi belongs to Tuensang district of Nagaland which is 1 of the 3 original districts of Nagaland but I'm not sure if the restaurant serves food from one of the tribes from that district.
So today Isaac & me entered this cute little eatery. Isaac eats here often but it was my 1st time here. The place can fit about 10 people at a sitting. Some effort went into making it cozy.
I looked up the menu & Isaac immediately went for the Pork intestine thali. While I've had plenty of Naga pork dishes, I've never actually had one made out of fish. So I went for the Pomfret & fresh Bamboo Shoot thali.
15 mins later our orders arrived. My thali had 2 huge pieces of Pomfret Fish in a spicy red curry, rice, dal & boiled cabbage. Mashed potatoes, fish chilli chutney & sohngang (a bitter vegetable) came with the thalis.
The fish had alot of flavor. The curry did have a hint of bamboo shoot but not overwhelmingly so & it had just the right amount of heat level for me. The rice was slightly sticky. The dal was pretty plain but helped cut down the heat. The boiled cabbage & other sides complimented the meal very well. It was so tasty that I even got an extra helping of rice.
I don't do spicy very well but for flavors like this, I do try my best.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. This may be one of the better Naga food I've had in Shillong. Perhaps it was all because of the fish.
Service was polite & they tried their best to be prompt. I also found the prices reasonable considering the other Naga thalis I've recently ate.
This definitely was bomb.
