We went to Sri Krishna for breakfast after a long drive. The place was not too crowded and we immediately got a table. Ambience was friendly and bright. The waiter immediately brought us our first order, of Bataka Poha. Lemon pieces were given separately, which we immediately squeezed on to the Poha for that extra zing! Wonderful start to the proceedings.
Next up were the fried trio - Patra, Bataka Vada and Bhajiya Usal.
Patra is spiced rolls of arbi ke patte that is cut and deep fried, and happens to be one of my favourite dishes. Reminds me of my childhood days whenever I have this dish
The bataka vada was well made and served with chutney and without the paav as in Mumbai.
Next up was Bhajiya Usal, fried dumplings in sprout curry or Usal. Again, without the paav that is typical of Mumbai. A variation of this is when the bhajiya is replaced with sev, called Sev Usal or Misal in Maharashtra.
Finally we had the Sev Khamani, which was by far the best dish of the meal. Soft daal khamani topped with crisp sev and served with a delicious chutney.
The meal was wrapped up with crisp Jalebis and hot tea.
Service was quick and I wont hesitate recommending this place was a wonderful Gujarati breakfast!
Best Gujarati snack food in Vadodara. Sev usal and Bhajiya usal is the best. Their old Restaurant is in City area and its since 1956. Everyone should visit this place. Highly recommended
