The Potbelly Divine serves delicious Bihari cuisine. The native Bihari / UP folks may find the prices on the higher side for a simple litti chokha that they can make at home and even better. But for us, it’s the convenience of somebody else making it for us and much better than what we can cook at home makes it worth a try.
The ambience is modern yet cozy. The staff is welcoming, polite and friendly. The helped us with their recommendations in choosing dishes. My partner was trying out vegan diet (though otherwise a die hard non-veg eater). Below is what all we had:
Bachka basket - Veg started with fritters of aloo, spinach, plantain, eggplant served with tomato chokha and chutney. It was served hot and should be eaten hot. The fritter had thin layer of batter which was crispy and flavourful. The dips were scrumptious and almost felt like salsa.
Litti chokha - We asked for vegan version of litti chokha. It was not possible since the sattu inside the litti already had some ghee in it. But the staff said they won’t dip the litti in ghee and serve it dry. We were okay with that. The little chokha was otherwise delicious but the sattu filing inside the litti was dry as the litti wasn’t soaked in ghee. We can’t blame them for it. Although they could have avoided adding ghee on top of the daal knowing we wanted to avoid it as far as possible.
Dehati fish and chips - this was a stunning starter. Every part of it was delicious. The small fish tikkis on mini puris, the fish fry and the batter fried masala fries were all great with the chokha and chutney.
Champaran mutton - Champaran mutton was a highlight for me. The palak puris were light, fluffy and not at all oily. The mutton gravy had ample amount of mutton boneless pieces cooked in ghee and is slow roasted to tender perfection. I will definitely visit this place again just for that mutton.
Aam panna - Aam panna was good though the quantity could have been more.
Overall we liked the place and would definitely visit again, now that my partner is off the vegan diet and could savour that mouthwatering mutton :)
This is our second visit to this place and we love the place, staffs and the taste of the food of this place. I think pandemic have affected the business but there is no difference in the taste. It is the same what we had last year. Hopefully they can regain its all the customers as they used to come before Corona. The place looks neat and the food prepared is tremendous but I have a suggestion for them. Please have a wash basin separate so that if the person has to wash the hand they can go there easily or else give them some options except going to the extreme corner. Rest everything looks okay right now.
We went to this restaurant around Dasara time, it was deserted and we were the only people in for lunch. I was apprehensive that we would get a limited menu like so many other places but thankfully the hospitable staff told us that except 1-2 items, most of their menu was available...we ordered an apple lemonade for our child and a plate of litti for ourselves..the litti was one of the best I have ever eaten, the taste was something that would appeal to everybody, given the taste of sattu might be unfamiliar to some in Bengaluru. The sides of the aloo and brinjal chokha and dal were very tasty, even our child enjoyed them as spice leve was nominal...we ordered the Dana Jhamarua thali which had a few rotis and some excellent chutneys. I was not impressed with the gravy as the taste of mustard was not very evident..
